Contributors Board Rankings
I've watched the rapid influx of posts by a few individuals with a wary eye. The space between my ears asks, "are a few people post-whoring to try to acheive a worthless ranking in the worthless contributors list"?
My gut says yes.
So, I think I might remove the Board Posting Rank column from the Contributors page soon, or change it a bit. Perhaps there will only be 3 or 4 ranks instead of however many there are now.

Personally, I would greatly prefer to visit a board that gets few posts but very intelligent posts, as opposed to this board being swamped with posts (well, considering the amount of people who visit, anyway) that are absolute trash. But what can I say, I've been around for so long that I've developed an unbreakable affection for this place, regardless of any abundant idiocy.

I agree that most of the posts of certain recent ones are pointless AND that we've ALL been guilty of it. And something such as whatever redink is thinking of doing is a good thing that is needed before the pointless and/or annonying posts goes too far, BUT, I think the way redink raised the issue was a much better way to go about it than the way others might/have put it.
Personally I don't think 'ranking' liek these work. It's cool to kinda see where you are post wise, but when people that have been here for a year kick people like me and you who have been around with 1998, it's a bit retarded. Personally if I still helped run this site, I would probably Axe the whole contributors thing. Just my opinion though.

In responce to wc's post in "A Thread to be bumped", i know that my posts were very inapropriate, but they weren't to earn posting rank. I could care less. I'm just a bored lonely person. OK! I have nothing to do and no one to talk to, and i'm online all the time. I'm sorry i was spamming the board, and to WC, go fudge your self.
What is the point of making those posts though? Your ass is going ot be lonely when no one here likes you too right?

my apology to the board. i'm sorry that i've been flaming people for their posting etiquette. i'm just sad that most of the intelligent people don't post more often. and, i promise to stop making so many posts, becuase i highly doubt that i have many useful things to say. for those of you who i've offended, please ignore my childish banter and i'll leave you alone. i know i'm one of the ones contributing to the degradation of the quality of this board, so once again i'd like to apologize to everyone for that. i'll take wc's advice and please everyone by making a really kickass dmod.

Well, there probably are some forums where the majority of folks are mature enough not to spam like there's no tomorrow, but this board is unfortunately not a part of that group. This isn't the only board I've seen chock-full of worthless posts, either; I can probably think of many junkyard forums from my old days of message-board-surfing, such as Infoceptor. All we can do here, really, is hope that redink1 devises some sort of grand plan to smite the "LOLs" and "yeps" and "well I don't like that so I won't say anything oh wait I just did post count plus ones" that plague the board.
Yup, hopefully they might devise a pill that redink can take that will help him grow some. Maybe then he will start smacking the taste out of peoples mouths.

I don't get it... We had this problem before, but since redink put up an "Off Topic" forum, is it really a problem? Its not like you go to the off topic forum to look for important info tid-bits on programing or game solving.
If the only problem is "post whoring" for the sake of ranks, than tear the rankings down.
I believe the fact that we have so many off topic posts indicates a level of comfort among the members - and thats kinda cool. Yeah, some are dumb, but hell, your bound to see the dumb ones when your looking for them (in "off Topic").

Pretty much. Everytime I did something to the site (such as temp ban retards), redink came in behind me and un did it, so there wasn't a real point of me being on the site for staff purposes.
Any goofiness in the Off-Topic forum is not the issue. The problem is that people are posting replies in various threads with no merit whatsoever, over and over again (see my previous post in this thread for examples). The "oh my god, you started a thread about bologna and not Dink, you must be cleansed!" situation definitely ended loooong ago.

I post a lot, and I always have. And as always, it's sometimes a load of rubbish. But I do a lot of dinking too, even if my projects don't always get finished.

Sabre posts a lot and always has, but a mahority of his posts are decent, so when he posts a rubbish post, no one really cares.
