New Contest: Weird D-Mod (Closed)
Are you interested in making D-Mods, but simply can't find the motivation to do it? Or are you quite good at making them, and want to find a new challenge? Tada, this Contest might help.
Basically, the goal of the contest is to make a 'Weird' D-Mod. It also allows D-Mods to compete against D-Mods in a Contest, instead of battling everything in DOTM contests.

The Rules
Deadline: All entries must arrive at redink1@rpgplanet.com before February 1st, 2004, and they will be put online the next day.
If you upload your entry to another public website before it is on The Dink Network, it is disqualified from the Contest.
Voting: Voting will be conducted by the Senior Staff within a week of the deadline.
If there are less than 3 entries, the contest is basically cancelled, and no prizes will be awarded.
Prize: A tangible prize will be awarded, but it is still unknown what it will be. In any case, only one prize will be given to the top D-Mod, regardless of how many authors contribute to it.
Size: There are not any size limitations, either in map screens or file size.
Specifications: The D-Mod must be 'Weird' in some easily identifiable way. 'Weird' is a term given to non-traditional D-Mods, meaning D-Mods where it isn't just the player guiding Dink around, talking to people, and killing monsters.
So it could be an arcade-type game, point-and-click adventure, non-interactive movie, extremely odd looking and playing D-Mod, an adventure where you or someone else real is 'sucked into' the D-Mod, or something that nobody has thought of yet. If you're at a loss for ideas, check out the Weird D-Mods already released.
If you want to ensure that your idea is 'Weird' enough for the contest, e-mail a senior staff member or post a comment to the board and ask.
Misc: If you have any questions, or think some of my rules are a bit silly, please post a comment or a message on the board.
Oh, and because there is a prize, and the voting will be conducted by the Dink Network Senior Staff, any entries by Senior Staff are not eligible.
Previously released D-Mods are not eligible, nor any parts of their map and/or story. For example, Sharp couldn't take Milder 3 submit it for the contest. However, if you wanted to have a SOB scorpion as an enemy (or character) that is allowed.
The point of the Weird theme was to make it so people couldn't just submit a D-Mod they've been working on for months. So if have been working on a D-Mod for a while that fits in the rules, please start a new one.
You can submit more than one entry. But beware: you may end up 'splitting the vote', and allowing another D-Mod to win.

Wow, you actually made it!!
And yet again, you've been terribly lazy:
"For example, Sharp couldn't take Milder 3 submit it for the contest."
Sharp's Milder 3 wasn't THAT weird, now was it?
Make that my DinkRacer, and we might talk again...

Well, Milder 3 was used as the last two examples for the other two contests... and I didn't want to spoil the tradition It was sort of 'weird', in that you couldn't fight anyone (at least, I think so). And that would be 'Weird' enough for the contest.
so i should submitt mike the magician again woot
It says it's a "normal" dmod though, whereas Bloop the Fish is seen as "weird". I think thát is weird.
Ah, ok, I think I could manage to consider to have an idea of imagining what 'weird' could be able to mean.
Dry is classified as a normal D-mod, whereas everyone said it was the weirdest D-mod ever. Now thàt's weird.
Yeah, what's up with that?
Anyway, this thing sounds pretty interesting...
(wonders if he has time to give it a shot)

I am in. I just hope I learn fast enough to finish mine.
I was just about to ask why they always assume I would contribute
Darn, once again i'd have an idea but no time for the contest.

There, there. I love you anyway.

how do you know if the d-mods is wierd and such?????
Just go for it. If it's not weird enough, re-submit later in another category.
It's in the text (what you need to do)
The prize should be the choice of either $1,000,000 or the mystery box. (Don't worry about supplying the money, the winner always goes for the mystery box.)
Cool. I'm having an idea....
The contest is finally here, woohoo!! Pity that I haven't thought of an idea yet...
I have an idea, and it's never done before. You'll need friends to play it with, though.
Well that's a bad idea, then. Especially for people who don't have friends (like me).
Pfft. Just play against yourself... I actually did a few times while playing Dinkers, the checkers thing for Dink, and I always won

Well, Dry is weird, but not the right kind of Weird Even with Dry's odd visuals, interesting conversations, and so on, its still basically walk around, talk to people, and kill things like most every other D-Mod.
The Weird the contest is looking for is more gameplay-centric.

I think it is a given that if you play with yourself you're guaranteed to come first.

Were they close games though?

*CHUCKLE*
And I have an idea now, so hooray for that!

That's a first. Does it involve cloning yourself?

comming soon: the necrophilia d-mod.
ROFL!! OMG!! Simon, how do you think of that stuff. No don't answer.
I have many ideas for the contest really... but I'm trying to pretend don't, so I finish one of them!!
And Simon can turn even the most innocent of conversations into a dirty and vulgar one. It comes with being an Aussie (Unlucky in the World Cup BTW ).

Dirty? Vulgar? Hmmm, the statement seemed quite innocent to me, it must be the reader who reads what they want to read into it.
World Cup? Hmmm, I've never followed Rugby. It comes from being born and raised in South Australia where football is "Aussie Rules" - the game in which big men fly.

I would use the words witty, funny, and yes, perfectly innocent. Why I can almost see the shine of his halo from here.
What's Aussie Rules? No rules?
What's Aussie Rules? No rules?
It appears my rather dirty/vulgar mind has got the better of me here... oh well, I always knew I was a bit like that...
I don't usually follow rugby too avidly, but when England are actually dang good at something, it's nice to jump on the bandwagon.
"What's Aussie Rules? No rules?"
Aussie rules does actually sound quite fun, I'd like to give it a try (and proceed to be mashed up by the brawny guys in small shorts).

Would it be acceptable to have parts of the game akin to more traditional Dink, but with most of the game being "weird"?
Probably, as long as the core gameplay is weird.
OK. It probably won't be weird enough (I'm not sure how to do what I intend yet), but we'll see...
Come on don't put yourself down...if there was anyone to be extremely wierd that weirdo is you..
FFS, you know they can figure out who you are when you do this.
