Hi Everybody,

As most of you probably know (given I've written a couple topics on this subject), I'm compiling Tim's COTPATD series of articles into a couple books.

So, if you are interested and willing to write a something that you would like me to include in the books, please write that as a reply to this topic, or send it to me in an e-mail with the subject "Dink Smallwood Book".

You can write about D-Mods you created, D-Mods you played, stories about the Dink community (particularly if they tie into one of Tim's COTPATD entries), D-Mods you didn't create (particularly if you're the kind of person who released a D-Mod with a cliffhanger ending), or you can write about Tim and/or COTPATD itself. It can just be a sentence or two, or it could a few hundred words.

Please try to send me anything you'd like me to include by March 5th, 2017. I can't promise I will be able to include everyone's words, and I may need to edit them to fit into the book, but I'll try my darnedest. I'm going to try to get everything updated and ready so that Volume 1 will be available to purchase in April or May, and Volume 2 a month or two later.

Thanks!

I got an email about this. Honestly it seems like a kind of weird idea. But that doesn't necessarily mean I won't submit anything. I suppose I could talk about Crosslink and my grand plans that never came together.

I actually did create quite a bit more content beyond the demo, but it never got to where I could call it complete. Just thinking about this again kinda makes me want to go back and make a wrap-up ending, even if it's far short of my original plans.

(Odds of that actually happening: Not so good.)

All I'd like to say is: Dink Smallwood is one hell of a game, and always will be. The community on the network whose name is dink is a *COUGH* wonderful experience! COTPATD is a series of reviews that represent a big part of our community. A part of our HISTORY! That being said, I'm in a book I'm popular now! HI MOM!

Because when you'll make the book and if you'll put the text above I'll be in a book get it hehehehehehehe

This is a really great idea, Dan. I'm going to read through a lot of what you have and submit something shortly. Big huge thank you for putting this altogether. RIP Tim.

Ok Here goes:

I've been lurking the forums here at the DN for around 6 or 7 years now.

Sure I may have disappeared now and again for a little while, but I've always come back again and again, never truly leaving.

Why? Because I love this place, and for a very simple yet important reason.

People here treat people just like that. People.

As I said, I've been around here for quite some time, obviously not anywhere near as long as other seasoned Dinkers, but still long enough to look back at my old prepubescent forum posts and shake my head in embarrassment.

But looking back at those posts made me realize something that I may have taken for granted at the time...

People were taking me seriously

No matter what silly subject I wanted to post about, or far-fetched dmodding ideas I pitched,
No matter how young I may have sounded, the people here were always willing to indulge me.

Now I'm sure many if not all of us have had those experiences online or otherwise where you enter a new community and you're the "Noob" Or new-guy, and I'ts often an unpleasant time, because you are looked down upon as an ignorant idiot or some such thing.

During my time here, I've seen many People come and go, and their entrance to this amazing community has always been the same,

A Gigantic warm and hearty welcome

This all being said, I don't think many users here at the DN have captured this whole feeling quite as well as crazy old Tim "Cocomonkey" Maurer.

Tim was a much loved member of the DN, not just for his endearing personality, but also (In my opinion) His dedication.
All it takes is a few minutes of reading his Crazy Old Tim Plays All the D-Mods series to understand what this site meant to him, and what he meant to us.
Unfortunately I never did get to know Tim as well as I wished I did, as well as never being able to thank him, or tell him just how much his words meant to me.

See, as a member of this community I've tried my hand at making a few Dmods. They were terrible. But Tim played and reviewed them anyway, writing down his thoughts on my dmods in his series, even mentioning how he actually found a little enjoyment in them! I cannot express in words how much that meant to me, that he'd taken the time to actually play and review the silly little creations of a complete novice, And how much it helped me through a tough period in my life.

As well as always being missed dearly, Crazy Old Tim will never be forgotten. Not even by a silly young idiot who'd only spoken a few words to him throughout his time here in a community brimming with uniqueness and love:

The Dink Network.

(I've never been a particularly good writer, and am just horrible with expressing myself with words in general, please do not hesitate to edit this in any way you deem fit Dan, IF you do intend to use it If not then that's just fine, I felt like i needed to post this publicly now so that i could share my thoughts with everyone here regardless )

Ah, hell.
I'll just add a copy here on the forum too.

Like zeddexx said I'm not much with words either.

I am not a long time member of the forum yet, but I am very impressed by all the fun I have had here. I am guilty of making a d-mod with a "cliffhanger" ending, but I shall fix that in a few months. The forum members are a nice bunch of chaps, and very good victims for trollers like myself ( which I retired from a few days ago) many of the d-mods I have played on the forum are awesome. I mostly enjoy the ones created by the famous simon klaebe. The original Dink Smallwood game will always be my favorite. I played it dozens of times and won it dozens of times. I'm sure Tim Maurer (God rest his soul) will be proud of this series of books that you are going to come out with.

Pretty much all this is true for me, and it was noticed back in the older times of TDN. This community goes easy on us newbies, and that's a huge plus.

Thank you for your words zeddexx

Maybe I could try to contact Robj and see if he wants to write anything for this. I know he was one of the closest guys to Tim on here.

Anyway, I wrote a little speech type thingy here. I'm not used to really writing these types of things, but I tried my best to get my thoughts out. I'm sure I left something I wanted to say out. Anyway, if it's not good enough or is too long or something, feel free to edit or not include it, but I started writing it so couldn't really stop until I had it all off my chest. Here it is:

"I wasn't terribly close with Tim. During Tim's short return to the Dink Community, I only exchanged a few conversations about the ongoing happenings, as well as a couple Private Messages about the COTPATD project, with him. Still, I can say with all sincerity, Tim's passing touched me and still does, very deeply. I think that speaks for what kind of character he was. The inspiration that guy gave for this community, was amazing and unlike any other. There we were... a bunch of old, and some even older, members having lost interest and just about ready to call it quits on a community we've been involved in for years. Then out of nowhere comes this guy Tim, Dinking all the way from 1998, and makes us all feel excited and inspired to create content for the Dink Community again. I think Tim saw this silly old PC game, its characters, as well as its fanbase and fan-created content, with different eyes than most. He saw the art and love of it all. He saw it as something seriously important in life to him. Perhaps even a bit too serious & important, at times. The effort, time and love people put into their D-Mods was honestly heartfelt to him, and he appreciated each and everyone of them. Although he also was honest if something was total garbage, he'd still respect it. You could see it in his COTPATD project, his final D-Mod "Malachi..." and just him in general letting us all often know how important the community was to him. Perhaps this was due to his own, what he felt were, "shortcomings" early on in his Dinking days. Perhaps that is what gave him this unique view on Dink Smallwood. His D-Mod developing past was also something I deeply related to on a personal level, due to how similar it was to mine. Anyway, The Dink Community has gone through plenty of dark times, even prior deaths of loved members, but Tim's passing was, I can say without a doubt, the worst hit the community has ever taken. When Tim died, a huge part of this community died with him. And that shows what a wonderful person he was and how huge an impact he had on us all, even if he didn't realise it. That part of the community is something we'll never get back, and I know I can say for us all that we thank you for that community, Tim, and we miss you.

Btw, you were a dang good writer! And my D-Mods are still worse than yours. Even though you'd argue that 'till the day Necromancer comes out!"

Thank you to everyone who wrote something for the book. I'm still collecting, editing, and formatting both the COTPATD entries and the submissions you all provided, and I am hoping to get a final draft of Part 1 ready in about a month.

Even though today is the expiration date, I can still accept submissions. But, as more time passes, the chances that I'll be able to fit any submissions into the book will decrease. So, if you want to write something (staring at you two, Talmadge Spencer Bradley the Third and Sir Neil Codswobble Troughton), please do so as soon as you are able.

Thanks!
