Neverwinter Nights
Who on the DN creates mods for NN?? I'm just starting, and could do with a few hints on scripting.
And it's better than Morrowind.
And it's better than Morrowind.
I tried it but could only get a framerate of 1/sec. Can't help.
Nup, don't have the game, most unfortunately. Alli's recommended it once or twice, though, and her judgment seems fairly nice, so I'll get it.. someday..
Better than Morrowind... you are sorely mistaken, my friend. While I did enjoy Neverwinter Nights, it pales in comparison to all the amazing experiences you have in MW. Plus, I generally have more fun with the mods in MW than I do in NN.
I do. And I think that NN editor is easier than the MW editor. But for the scripting in NN and MW...
Just make a funny mod with 200 thugs. And play it with your lvl 7 sorcerer. Lets see how strong you are!

Yes, the NWN editor is a lot easier, you only have 2 dimensions to worry about and a lot of the graphical stuff is set up automatically. In other words, you don't need to decorate rooms in NWN, because that's automated (for the most part), but that also means you CAN'T really decorate rooms. This annoyed me, as I like to use objects and archetecture to convey a certain atmosphere in a game. In NWN you're stuck with having to use one of just a few tilesets for the entire map.
For me, the NWN editor is just too limiting for my tastes.

On the contrary Striker, NN may lay out BASIC outlines of stuff as you make rooms and stuff, but it is very easy to add whatever you want, and change it to suit your tastes. And you think the editor is limiting? Is this the same game we have been doing?
It is a wonderful editor, and you can create all manner of things. Morrowind is just boring in comparison (and judging by review scores and awards, I'm not the only one to think so).

I don't know how it is for you British folk, but Morrowind and Neverwinter Nights seem to garner an equal amount of high praise here in America.
Yeah, create, umm... oh an NPC or a monster! Oh, look at this gong, it's one of 12 placeable generic objects! (slight exageration)
NN could get boring as all the maps look exactly the same. Heck, now that I've finished the single player quest, the NN mods are hard pressed to hold my interest at all. At least Morrowind kept you somewhat entertained as traveled from place to place. You never knew what kind of stuff you'd come across, and there are various plug ins that make sure you run across even more stuff. I mean, nothing in NN comes close to the utter coolness of discovering a talking mudcrab merchant or a wood elf that falls from the sky
BTW, I have read quite a few reviews that have placed Morrowind above NN.

I haven't tried NN so I can't say if NN is good. I have to agree with striker about the making mods for MW. Making mods in Morrowind is one of the best there is period. The best mod for a game would be Dink and MW would be 2nd. In the construction set, you can make your own island, own people, add new graphics in it. So if you want to add yourself in there you could with a real picture. It would be funny if you added iceman. You can even make your own items, make new creatures, add new dialogs, make houses, make your own city, make a talking cliff racer, etc. You can even make your own race and whatsoever.
I've been an elderscroll fan since '96 so no wonder why I enjoy Morrowind. I heard NN is more into hack and slash than Morrowind, but the elderscrolls series are best known for their NON LINEAR GAMEPLAY and it's STORYLINE.
Now I can't wait until Bloodmoon comes out!
BTW are there any expansion sets for NN or no? In NN can you import new graphics like in Dink and MW?

Yeah, Bloodmoon should be cool... freezing actually (lame joke of the week folks!)
They are making an expansion for NN. And yes, you can import things into NN. I'm not sure about weapon meshes though... And I believe that if you want a unique looking terrain or a house or something, you have make a whole new tileset
You are also stuck with the default classes and races in every game you play, which limits the amount of roleplaying you can do. At least, that's how it was when I looked at it in the summer.

Now I am interested in playing these two games, are they free to download? Where may I download these from? Would someone please put up the site address here.
Thanx.

Both games are NOT free. They should be about $40 U.S. Dollars each or maybe lower.
Morrowind is copyright protected which is good b/c you need the map that came with the game in order to find your way around or buy the strategy guide (which has the exact location for all the places). If not then it would take you a long time to find it.
As for NN, I don't know.
SabreTrout, how can you say that Morrowind is better than NN? Have you tried it, obviously not.

Unfortunately, no, you can't download Neverwinter Nights or Morrowind for free. They're retail games, which you obviously have to pay for.
Actually, I have played a little of both... About the same amount of each, maybe 2 or 3 hours. And I can safely say that I greatly prefer NWN right now. Probably because it's more reminiscent of Diablo 2 than Morrowind is.
Yeah I agree, it is based on preference. If you like Non linear gameplay, hardcore RPG games (no hack and slash like Diablo) and games that rely heavily on the storyline like Wizardry, Might and Magic, etc. you'll like Morrowind.
If you just want to hack and slash like Diablo, then Go for NWN.
If you like both then play both, it's that simple.

That was sarcasm... right? I would definitely not call NWN all hack and slash, but pretty well story-driven too. The storyline of Neverwinter has motivated me to play so far, whereas Morrowind has barely even pulled me in. I suppose the beginning is just slower than NWN's,it might even out somewhere in there.
Diablo II has quite a nice story, as well. You're just given the choice to skip it altogether. Which most people take. A shame.
Hack and slash? Have you played Neverwinter Nights Dethlord? It is more combat orientated than Morrowind, but it was created largely for mod creation (as Dink was) and so you must appreciate that while some things are hack and slash, the best are not.
Also you say...
"SabreTrout, how can you say that Morrowind is better than NN? Have you tried it, obviously not. "
Err...I said that NN was better than Morrowind, which in my fairly large RPG experience, it is.

You suck, end of discussion!

Yeah, Morrowind doesn't suck, it#'s a good game. But NN is better.
