Bullcrap?? Do you reply so discourteously to every thought you disagree with? 
I thoroughly agree with Pure Evil. It couldn't have been said better.
As to your argument: People make jokes about everything under the sun. Not my problem nor my concern. Children are. Especially my children. If you say you Wish so-and-so teacher would die, that is an emotion not an intent to harm.
However, if you Wish to say that in front of school officials, go right ahead. They will have no option but to pursue it. They can't afford not to. Or have you not read about all the schools being sued? We, the public, pay the taxes to support those schools and, gee, I wish they had thought of those armour suits before. What a nifty idea.... It's not the money for taxes nor metal detectors nor speech restrictions that will stop children from killing children in school. I don't know the answer but I know if we do nothing there will be an increase in these acts of violence. Should we be passive and do nothing? Or put down any ideas that can help? How about this one: Devise a simple personality test that will spotlight disturbed children. No? Well, I wish I knew the answer. I do know it's much easier to try to correct a situation before it happens rather than after the fact.
If we learn at an early age that there are consequences to our actions, then we are better people for it. The ones who never learned are the ones out there who kill, rob, cheat, lie, and on and on. I was angry at first that the principal knew it was a joke. That was a mistake and disservice to the kind of man I want my son to be. And I want him to live to grow up. Therefore, when he is in an environment that is out of my control, I hope there will be rules and restrictions that will help to protect him.
I just re-read this and I can be rather sarcastic sometimes. Please forgive that and let's have a chat on this subject sometimes. It would be interesting to see what others think.
