I don't really like steam. It slows down my computer when starting up and for me only serves as some program I'm obliged to use to play some games.
Things may be different if you play a lot of multiplayer games or play games on a lot of different computers, but for me it's mostly bloatware. The only reason I don't hate it is because many of the alternatives are even worse.
