What makes a review excellent?
I don't want to protest or something, and I don't have something against VonZeppelin or his review. I just want to ask you what makes you thing this is an excellent review:
Wow... This one was quite similar to the original, except that it is even more painful...The title and explanation are quite confusing in the sense that they trick you into thinking that this is a sequel to the original D v. M. Well-guess what? It's not! It is really the same D-Mod only with more material added. So, basically, if you have already played the original Dink Vs. Milder there is little need to play this one...
***Plot***
same ol`, same ol`, Though a bit of humor was added. The old plot was not terrific either... Dink learns that Milder is hitting on Libby so he goes to challenge Milder to the death... Isn't that terribly exciting?
***7.5***
***Sound***
The midis were alright... They were suitable enough for the backround, but I thought that they should have been different midis for the insides of the houses.
***8.0***
***Gameplay***
The gameplay here bothered me. I actually never got far enough to meet any monsters... but the ones in the original were way to easy (except the endboss). I quit when I got to the bus driver riddle... It drove me insane!! Another minus is that the characters all only have a few lines of speech, none of which will help you solve the riddle... which must be solved before you can even leave the town and kill your first monster!! Ouch... A big redeeming factor for me was the new, more traditional click-F5-to-save idea. This meant that I no longer had to scout out for savebots. The ingame menu was streamlined and superior to the original in my opinion. It has functions for Saving, Loading, Mapping Keys, Help, and Quitting. I feel that this is the layout that should have been used for the menu in the original.
***7.5***
FINAL SCORE:
***7.6***
Alright... It was not very enjoyable... but it was well done. The rather poorly done scripting, plotline, and graphics and a counterpoint to the fact that this has one of the best user interfaces in any D-Mod I have played. Well done Cypry...
(P.S. any hints on that riddle. I usually don't review a D-Mod without finishing it, but that riddle is nightmarish. It doesn't make any sense any way that I looked at it... maybe there is some pun there in Russian... but it made adsolutely no sense to me.)
Ok, I admit it's a long enough one, and it pinpoints well the first part of my DMOD. It also gives a fair grade.
First of all, the guy admits that he didn't finish the game yet: I actually never got far enough to meet any monsters.... The part before the riddle was only the begining of my DMOD, where I copied a bit "the original Dink vs. Milder". So I agree somehow that my DMOD is the same D-Mod only with more material added, but let's be honest here: do you think that my old DMOD is more than 25% of the new one?
Finally: I usually don't review a D-Mod without finishing it, but that riddle is nightmarish. It doesn't make any sense any way that I looked at it... maybe there is some pun there in Russian... but it made adsolutely no sense to me. On this post, many people confirmed that my riddle wasn't hard at all.
So, I repeat my original question: What makes a review excellent?

Maybe there is some pun there in Russian
I found this amusing.
If the riddle really was impossible, then this review would be excellent. As is, it's not. There are similar problem with reviews of some other files here, like FB1, where the update makes all the reviews irrelevant.

I think it's a very crappy review because it doesn't say much about the D-Mod at all. It's all about that VonZeppelin didn't answer the riddle correctly so he couldn't move on and so he just wrote a review about the beginning. Well that's just ?!!??!!?!?!??!?!?! Why in earth would someone review a game when he hasn't finished the game jet? Besides VonZeppelin could have just asked for the answer of the riddle before he wrote the review.
The review has been invalidated.
I'm not sure who validated it in the first place (I may have been in a groggy clicking spree of unforeseen consequence), but there is a general rule if the player didn't finish the D-Mod, then their review is invalidated. Exceptions are reserved for extremely buggy / difficult gameplay, which wasn't the case with your D-Mod.

Heh, my bad... I pretty much have the same excuse as redink1 used (it was pretty late)... there were several reviews being approved and I accidently marked that one as excellent, thinking it was VonZepplin's other review.
I'm glad you brought it up so it could be corrected.

I just want to make it clear that I changed the review after I finished the D-Mod... my bad. I hope I don't get beat up too much for it....
I don't think so. You finished the game and corrected the reveiw so no reson for beating up anyone.
Maybe I should rewrite all my ancient reviews because when I wrote them, I had no understanding of TDN and I was a "noob", so I should rewrite them when I get a chance.
Maybe I should do this too because I wrote mostly bad reviews accept for the Scourger that one was really serious. But in a lot of my reviews I gave a 9.9 and maybe the file didn't deserve a full 9.9 but a little less. It's just that I like to give a file a 9.9 when I really enjoyed it. But the Scourger got a 9.6 from me while it's also great.
So should you give a high mark if you liked the file or should you give a high mark if it's a good file or both?

Personally, when I review... reviews, I am more critical of exceptionally high or low reviews. If you're going to give a file a 9.9, you better dang well really justify why you think this is the GREETEST THINGN EVAR!! (which, incidently, is the extent of the content of most 9.9 reviews)
I score my reviews by how good the storyline, plot, graphics, MIDIs, and lasting appeal. Sometimes I do other categories. I also add or subtract points if I like or dislike a D-Mod and if it's really hard, I subtract a bit from the overall score.
DrinkSpiller's recent (invalidated) review of Elemental Swords:
COOL SWORDS. These are really cool swords. These are the coolest things to ever be made. Original and can be really powerful. The best add-on weapons to come out ever!
Graphics 10.0
COOL. These are a good use for mods.
(Rating: 9.9)

Ahem...I just changed it, but I think I should have left it the way it was...
And more of my opinion or "joke" posts are being deleted. I'm getting really pissed off.

Yeah, I don't think that I need bother mentioning how I do reviews... you all should know it by now...

really no plot other than he is a self-centered know-it-all.

He usually prefers quiet, other than the hum of his computer and the motor of the ceiling fan.

It is really slow and boring, with way too much lost sleep and occasional spelling errors to detract from the overall score.

I did not enjoy the D-Mod titled VonZeppelin. It is boring and I didn't like his humor or his incessant poetry...
There, apparently the only person that has really given me a beating so far is myself...^^^^

Another great DinkKiller posting was sighted:
"This D-Mod was a snore. Not that fun. Too easy. At maximum you can get to level 9 (or at least I can.) No story. Your not even big, everything is just minimized.
Storyline 0.0
Graphics 4.0
Difficulty 0.0
Map 4.0
Ending 4.0
Not recommended for anyone except for Godzilla fans because this is really a snore."
No offense, it IS short and sweet, and does not ravel my mind from endless reading. On the otherhand all I know about the D-Mod is that it is a snore and too easy.
DinkKiller, don't kill me...please... (after all, I'm VonZeppelin, not Dink)

I'm gonna get my lead out and shoot down a zeppelin. (Lead Zeppelin)
I can kill whoever I want.
I like doing short and "sweet" reviews on 10-30 minute D-Mods.

VonHindenburg speaking... (series of evil laugh follows)...(then a giant explosion)
Curses! Foiled again!
I caused the explosion however. I placed a bomb near the propellers.

Pretty lights are not always pretty and sometimes blinding.
Yeah,... say has anyone ever actually seen the footage of the Hindenburg exploding?
If not you can find it here:

The event is actually rather sad....
... and ended the relatively high safety standard that the zeppelins had always retained prior.
