OK, I was just going through some recent reviews, seeing what people thought about different d-mods, and came across Simonk's "Dink goes Boating".
Now, as much as I hate to see him do it on every file he releases, I can understand Simon giving his file a huge score here, and why? Because a review has been validated which blatantly disregards facts about the d-mod.

"Awful, terrible, should be off the website!
Goods: You can row a boat!!

Bads: The tutorial gives you absolutely no backround information so it's plain jibberish. There is no music, no plot, no storiline.

Conclusion: It fails as a tutorial and fails as a game. Should be off the website!"

Now, correct me if I'm wrong but saying a game has no music (when it does) and that the tutorial is gibberish (it isn't) is just... lying? Maybe terryacky's computer was bust and he couldn't hear the music, but that doesn't mean it's not there.
So I was just wondering, who on staff lets these things slip through?

Omg, someone actually did write that. It is very unfair and mean-spirited of them.

However, The review itself seems to qualify under the guidelines (barely). Even tho a review is written with all evidence of trying to hurt the the author, it needs to be posted because it meets the requirements. If redink, or whoever, didn't validate it, there would be screams of partisanship, favoritism, etc. and a huge furor would blow up. It would turn into everybody complaining when they got a bad review, hurt feelings all over the board, and similar unpleasantness. Simon did the only logical thing he could do to counteract this kind of hatefulness....he wrote his own review.
Which is what I would have done for him if I had realized about this nasty review.

People use the anonymity of the board to do and say hurtful things but it will give them no real satisfaction. It's sad they feel that way. It would be better to step up and start a dialogue with a person or on an issue than to lurk around slinging hate and discontent.

I agree with desertgrl. And it is someones right to think that a mod sucks, but reviews shouldn't go up if there simply to try and hurt the author, but who determins whats honest hate and an attempted flame?

Well, of course everybody has a right to say they don't like a d-mod or whatever. That's surely common sense.
My gripe is that if somebody mentions something (like the apparant lack of music), it should actually be TRUE. I mean, it would be one thing to say "The music is terrible", but to say that their is NO music means that the review is untrue, nomatter if they rate the file as a 0.1 or a 9.9.

Another case (though this one more fuelled by my own bitterness) is Iceman's review of "A Knights Tale", where he quotes something... that doesn't actually say what he quotes.
Ho hum.

Basically, my point is that reviews should be honest, and tell the truth. And the review in question doesn't.

That would certainly not have passed through if I had been validating. That's just blatant disrespect for the author in my opinion.

As mentioned by redink1, I validated the review, and I apologize. While I usually read the reviews and validate them accordingly, and hold some particularly high standards, I was in a bit of a rush at the time and validated it while unaware of the blatant lie(s). As I'm sure you can all tell, the situation has been handled accordingly, except for the part where redink1 rolls up a newspaper and smokes it with me.

To the one who wrote this trash: You've got your wish. Everybody now knows about your review. Are you happy? You should be ashamed.

Most everyone knows who you are so don't feel too puffed up. For myself, I will never make a reply post to any of your comments again and have deleted your dmods.

There's a right way and a wrong way to do things. You know what is the right thing to do. It will bring back your honor. I hope you can do it.

I headed over to the review section to write a review and there was your lovely review, hedberg. Very nice, I like you already. I really didn't feel qualified to write one because I don't make dmods and it is wonderful that you saw and can make use of Simon's hard work to help dmod authors.

Yikes..the first dmod SimonK made, that I didn't write a review for it and YIKES again, I noticed I haven't reviewed any dmods since last summer. I must be getting old Anywho, because my speakers on my computer are pretty well shot, I often write that in my reviews (i.e. : " don't know about the music as my speakers are on the outs again").

Now we have resolved this problem, I think the next major issue that needs tackling is the way people haven't been giving my d-mod's consistant 9.9's.
I mean, whats up with that?

I dunno. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that they're all awful, horrible, and in need of being removed from the site.

CookieCutter, are you hinting that (most) parents go to sleep to early and/or sleep to much? I could have the speakers blasting when they are working), and my parents still wouldn't hear them.

Line the inside of the doors with sound blocker material and put a poster over it for pretty. Or what my oldest did was buy cork squares that completely covered the door and put up a dartboard on the cork. Worked pretty good.
