WDE+ crashing when viewing sprites
WDE+ keeps doing this (also WDE+2)
Windows 10
Sometimes as soon as I press E, sometimes after scolling to the next page, in one D-Mod even when I try to detail the minimap. It would seem to be certain images that set it off, but I can't trace what exactly.
It even happens in the original game, so not true colour.
Any ideas?

you're using windows 10.
...but really, that sounds like something ducked with the dink.ini. i've had that too and it would always do it because of one or multiple of the sprites. i probably still have that problem now and haven't bothered to fix it.
but you say it's happening in the original game. so, is there something missing there too? or maybe like windows vista installing to some hidden folder, windows 10 installs to some system folder or some shit and as a result, a ton of files aren't accessible. it wouldn't surprise me.
edit: no, you know what? if there was something ducked with the .ini or sprites missing, i think the editor would just ignore them. so, i dunno. try another operating system, though. not even just to see if its the culprit.

Try changing your DMOD directory name. I've had this problem before and IIRC that worked. Dink and WDE don't play nice with Windows 8 and above
New installation to the Documents folder to try and avoid Windows hiding stuff, doubt it worked
Anyway it's the original ini, graphics and everything.
"Try changing your DMOD directory name."
Long time no see
That worked! Great, thanks. WDE asks for the directory every time it starts now but I can live with that.

Ha, I long ago gave up looking for sense in anything to do with Dink

It's done that to me and I came to the conclusion that it was because of how sprites were saved. It was always crashing whenever I tried to go to a screen with certain sprites on it or view the sprite list where that particular sprite was.
it's either 16 or 24 bit and those crash it.
The sprites in the original game that are messing up are the hammer goblin ones I think.
Comment them out in the .ini and if the editor doesn't crash it's them.
Edit: Your solution seems to be a lot better.

so can we confirm that dink supports two different bitmap formats?

Well the game supports 8 bit, 16 bit, and 24 bit. In my experience it's the editor that doesn't. If I try to load in a sprite as something other than 8-bit the editor will probably crash when I try to view it. Rabid's solution is only for win8+ and I use win7, so I'm not sure if the directory name was the issue or not.

I still poke my head in from time to time, I try not to do it too often though for reasons
Did you give WDE admin privileges? That could help with having to choose the directory every time. Also it doesn't seem to save its settings/preferences if you don't.
I took a bit of a hiatus from Dink awhile back because of all the crappy bugs, crashes and performance issues. I'm even developing my own DMOD (well conglomeration of ideas and mechanics really) for DinkHD because it's so bad. The game simply isn't holding up with current software.
