So tell me, Dinkers, what are you really scared of?
Loosing your friends?
Insects, spiders or other nasty buggers?
Death?

I suffer from arachnophobia. Hate those things...

I have a phobia of phobias. I am traumatized every time I think of the prospect of being illogically afraid of something.

Not really. But I do doubt some of you have all those true phobias. Simply being logically afraid of something, like falling 25 feet, is not a phobia, or else everyone would have a lot of phobias. The fear has to be very extreme or very illogical. Like a phobia of broom heads, or walking down a smooth hill (trypophobia was a good example). Or a phobia where you literally go out of your way to keep spiders as far away from you and everywhere you go as possible. For example, if you see a spider and think,"Ahh, I hate spiders!" but then simply go on your way, ignoring the spider and making no attempts to get rid of it such as calling neighbors/family members or getting deadly bug sprays, you probably aren't arachnophobic. (The exception would be if you are so afraid of the spider that you think calling a neighbor to squash it or otherwise threatening it would make the spider angry so that it would chase after you...)

I guess high-velocity theme park rides are the closest thing to a phobia I have, but I'm thin making them more intense than usual, so it's not really that irrational for me.

My phobias are, for the most part, irrational, which is the definition of phobia. Believe me, I'm scared shitless of spiders, insects, heights, and whatever else I said I was afraid of.

Fair enough, I just wanted to make sure the word "phobia" wasn't being thrown around too casually.

I used to have quite an intense fear of wasps. It was hardly irrational, since I got it after being stung many times as a kid, and that hurt like hell. One time, I was stung on the nose and my entire face got so swollen that I had trouble seeing in front of me. I think I may have actually had an allergy to the things - I've been stung a few times as an adult as well, and it didn't feel like anything.

I managed to rid myself of that fear, though. Whenever a wasp got inside the house, I'd force myself to go near it, catch it in a glass jar and take it back outside. I'd also destroy any hives they build inside outbuildings with a stick.

Nothing like exposure treatment! I still don't particularly like the things, but I've no problem dealing with them, or staying calm if they land on my arm or whatever. Despite this, close family members continue to relentlessly mock me, act panicked and yell "Help! A WASP!" whenever one is somewhere nearby. Ahhhh, relatives.

I'm rather paranoid, which is kind of like an irrational fear that people would actually want to watch/track me or read my contacts/thoughs.

I'd have to say I'm afraid of spiders of any kind, even toys, but I can try sometimes to kill a small one with a shoe sometimes. Heights would also be a problem, but I am doing better with that. The ocean and deep water too since I can't swim so that may be a fear of drowning or death more. Paranoia a little since I must be aware of all my surroundings every minute. Small spaces that are hard to escape are something I bet most people suffer from. And Santa Claus( Claustrophobia joke )
