Now is a pretty grey topic its pretty hard to pick a side because children usually more "Innocent"

So what do you people think about it?

Well, since I rarely ever have to kill a child in a video game, and since video game designers typically make them immortal, I really don't care. The people who go out of their way to kill kids in video games have something really messed up with them.

I don't know of any video game where you can kill a kid, unless their evil or in Dink Smallwood but, I don't see any reason to do it any way unless you want to release some steam that requires special attention.

I think there's some unexplored story potential with kids as adversaries. Don't care if they're possessed, forced to fight or whatever, but I think in breaking some taboos developers can thread upon some new grounds.

I agree with Kyle that there's a lot of emotional potential in children. Unfortunately, game developers have absolutely no clue on how to portray children like children. The typical video game child is an alien, incredibly obnoxious arsehole creature that flaunts his immortality in your face -- something you WANT to cut to pieces, if only you could.

Oh, there's an example in Mother 3.
It is heart wrenching and tragic.

The world could always use more heroes
Two examples I can think of are Heavy Rain (I think) and The Last of Us. In both scenarios, the death of a child is used to incite a powerful emotional response in the player, though it's not the player who ends up actually killing them. In these cases, I believe this to be okay. Otherwise, it's just a bit messed up.

Tag - Umm.. tag, you're it?
There is a game u get to chose to kill kids (or not) - cant for the life of me remember the name but the entire game is based on choosing who lives and dies, its you creating a future or snuffing out things (think its a zombie type - if u dont kill them they WILL eat u so...) - its quite harsh but in the end theyre just pixels and its just a game aye.. chokes

Y'know, this gives me an idea for an upcoming game. Y'know, one that implements a pseudo morality meter.

There are a few quests in Fallout 3 involving children. Mostly involving slave traders though. But you can go through Little Lamplight and kill all the kids there. It's not a big deal. Sometimes they just get on your nerves and you just want to pop 'em in the head with a laser rifle.

well as said before those kids are just pixels but and always a shame if you want to be evil in a game you can't kill kids :'( .

one of the reason's i've heard it's a taboo is that they don't want real kid killers because it's okay in a game i'd say BULL$HIT! you can kill adults animals whateva in games yet does it make you kill 'm in real life? I certainly don't think like wanting to do it in real life(some individuals maybe but still won't cross that line)

and i think as they aren't real kids i don't mind but keep in mind they are just pixels so fictional not real.(if only saying that would help me with scary picture forming pixels of nasty pop going balloons(or at-least looking they could pop any given second *shudders*))

There's also the case of Bioshock 1 and 2 where when you take the adam from the girls you can completely drain them which kills them, or only take some and return them to a semi-normal state.

Let us save our effort and just lie down and die.
The real question is "can you kill kids in real life?" And if someone brings up consequences, should consequences for killing a child be any different then killing anyone else? Are children really so much more innocent then any other humans? After all, children are no different to anyone else - just less experienced, aged and informed and there are adults who are equally replete of knowledge, XP or wisdom.

Fallout 3 is an excellent example of horrible obnoxious arsehole children. You CAN'T actually kill them in the vanilla game, and the children know it. With the game being as moddable as it is though, killable children mods were among the first ones to appear... even before the porn mods.

So people care more about murdering children then porn, I'm not sure if that's good or bad? Also Rob better watch out or he might get killed for the fun of it.
