Two examples I can think of are Heavy Rain (I think) and The Last of Us. In both scenarios, the death of a child is used to incite a powerful emotional response in the player, though it's not the player who ends up actually killing them. In these cases, I believe this to be okay. Otherwise, it's just a bit messed up.
