I wouldn't see it as much a taboo as everyone else. Doesn't mean it doesn't make my stomach roil around like it's a windy day on a little boat.

Self-publish? I wouldn't know how to go about doing that.
Amazon says it's easy. You can do it at Barnes and Noble too. You can also self-publish on Apple's iBookstore, but I hear it's a pain.
Doesn't that mean you take your manuscript (or file) to a publisher and pay them to print/bind it? Distribution is up to you.
With ebooks you can upload them to a retailer like Amazon, and they take care of distribution for you.
I'd prefer human interaction to trusting my books to an internet service. Just saying.
