As smooth as things are going here recently, with the annual summer n00bfest and all currently, I think we still need some updates around here. What I'm referring to is mainly Christiaan's place as a staff member. He hasn't really done crap for TDN in ages, and as great of a guy as I think he is, I think he should be replaced by another. Or at least someone new should be added to the staff to sort of silently take his place. Now, I would have some things to say about Tal and his leadership skills too, but I think we already know all about that.

As for other minor stuff (which includes a frickin' IP ban feature), things are pretty well around here. And I officially want to title the February-May of 2011 the CARNAGE MONTHS of The Dink Network, and they should every year be celebrated in the name of DDC and bananas here in TDN!!

I don't know. It just annoys me to see someone such as Christiaan, who was given the privilege to be a staff member (which I honestly can't see why), and then just leave. I mean, he could at least have informed people that he was gonna leave, do nothing here for the rest of TDN's existence, and maybe get someone to replace him. But no, he decides to just leave all the work laying, completely forgetting about his commitment(s). Christiaan took upon himself the RRR, for example, but yet he just leaves, and now I do it even though I am not the one who is *supposed* to be doing it nor *have* to do it. But I do it. And honestly, I like doing them RRR.

Now, I think you all know why I brought Tal and IP ban feature into the discussion.

It would be fun to see some new fresh staff members.

2. Christiaan has been on lately - he just doesnt troll the threads adding to every one with some useless inane comments whether he has anything to add or not, like some here. He is also plesant to deal with and treats new dinkers and others with respect - something I like to see in any moderator.

Current staff members are doing their tasks just fine from what I can see, reviews go out, files are uploaded, contest entries judged, spammers deleted, polls updated, what more can we ask? I think this is solely about someone who has ideas above their capabilities and appears to have a huge case of "moderator envy". I mean wow who gets to decide if someone is past their useby date? I think we forget who owns this site - and it isn't us users.

EDIT: And just for the record, the current staff takes maximum time of about 14 days to approve a file. Which isn't bad at all. It's really good in fact. However, someone such as myself would upload a file in the maximum of 14 hours. I think the new staff are doing a spectacular job (except for Christiaan), and I really like the guys. I'm not trying to put them in a bad shadow, but what I'm saying is that some new staff can never hurt. Put some addicted as a staff. Maybe Robj or even re-add Kyle. Hell, I'm not saying I don't want to be a staff member, so if you want to, go ahead and put me as one, although this thread is not about me becoming a staff member.

I do however think the current staff do what they should for the community, files and reviews are accepted almost at once, the problem is that there are almost nothing being uploaded XD

Hmmm.. the RRR (which I'm mostly pissed off about, although I enjoy doing the RRR), he also isn't posting news, approving files, approving reviews, whcih are his task.

One of the things the staff hasn't done, is contact Dan enough to actually get his attention. Skorn was banned, and this is why we need an IP ban system. I can see he has matured up a lot, but he was still banned for a reason. This is also why we need an IP ban feature. It may not keep some people away for long, but it is going to make their job of coming back harder, which may make them give up.

Now to Godley:

1. I doubt most of the n00bs who hit this site are talented enough to do that. Hell, they aren't talented enough to write with all their l33t b011cr4p!

I'm gone for a few weeks, and wow.

First, I think the staff in general is doing an amazing job. The latest contest is proof of that. Also, if people think I should leave the staff, you'd think they would tell me what I should be doing different or better. Instead I have to stumble upon this thread trying to figure out what this is all about.

I don't really feel like defending myself, but I'll try to address the points I could find in the midst of all the bickering and insulting.

1. There are no new updates. What do you suggest we update? Files, reviews, screenshots are up to the community. Most reviews are validated within a day. Most files within a couple of days. The staff can't magically make new files appear out of thin air. If you're referring to new site features, I can understand. I'd been working on some stuff a while ago, but I haven't been too sure new features would really be appreciated. The community is active but it is very small. There are already quite some features around. Things like IP blocking can only be done by redink1 and Tal. This is not something us staff members can directly change.

2. I haven't done the RRR the last few times. This is true. Somehow, people got the idea that I'm the RRR guy. I'm not. Yes, I was the advocate for a new monthly contest in the vein of the DOTM. However, we discussed the specifics with all of the active staff members, including redink1. Any staff member can post the RRR. Frankly, it surprised me Skull took that over. Skull shouldn't have to do it, but if he wants to, fine. It was never my intention to neglect the RRR, I was just never under the impression that it was supposed to be solely my duty.

3. Apparently I don't validate reviews anymore? There is no way to know who validates a certain review and who doesn't. Like I said, almost all reviews are being validated within a day. If any staff member with review validating privileges decides to approve or reject a review, he will do so. For the record, I still do validate reviews if there are any pending. I don't know where you get the idea that I don't.

4. I'm not online frequently enough to be on staff. I understand why some users could feel this way. I admit I haven't been online too much lately. My reasons for this are personal. I have gone through a rough patch in my life and I am currently extremely busy with conducting a scientific research for my Master Graduation. I understand that people wonder why I am not online very often, but the polite course of action would be to ask or inform me about what is going on. If you would like to be on staff, Skull, I would advice you to better your conduct (ie. be more direct, stop playing games with other users, avoiding flame wars with people disagreeing with you, etc).

To conclude, I don't really see how the staff can improve the site in a significant way. I have only good things to say about my fellow staff members. The entire community depends on the actual contributions of all its users, not only its staff members. The staff held a contest not too long ago and rest assured there is being worked on the site even if you are not aware of it.

In general, if you want things to change, come with ideas and suggestions. Be constructive, not destructive. I suggest that if you have a problem with someone, address that problem with that person directly. Bickering behind people's backs will generally not be appreciated.

1. There can never be too many site features. IP ban feature is not something you can do. What you can do, is bother Dan long enough to actually do something about it.
Also, if you put someone more active on the staff, files and reviews would be approved in the matter of hours. Maybe even minutes.

2. Well, obviously you WERE the RRR guy. You created it, you showed that you took responsibility over it. Then you suddenly leave and NOBODY TOOK CARE OF IT. This shows that people indeed did think you were the RRR guy. And you let people down.

3. And imagine if you were currently the only guy in staff. You approve reviews whenever you are online? Looking at your longest absence in recent times, this means one's review could be pending for half a year.

4. Personal life. Blergh. I don't give a crap. It disgusts me. And I'm also not going to chance who I am to just be in the staff. If the staff don't like a certain person, and don't put him in the staff because of that, that's their problem. They just show how stupid and pathetic they are.

I would say you are a failure at life. But I am the failure at life in this case. And only a person who's a failure at life can make a great site host or a staff member.

I agree that the RRR was never discussed thoroughly enough to ensure continuity, but this is a fixable issue that can be solved politely.

I wouldn't have, since I'm coming and going in periods like Christiian. Besides, I wouldn't have been suited for it anyway.

About yourself as a staff member... I do think the position would suit you as you are a very active user (hell, I think i spot a skull/black scorpion everytime I visit this site) but I do think a very valuble staff attribute is to be (somewhat) calm and trustworthy. I don't say you have these attributes, but you're involved with far too many squabbles on this site - I know that you mostly (if not all the time) are being sarcastic but it get tiresome.

Personally, I don't like Skull. He's way to negative, and he comes of like a real jerk. That being said, I LOVE to argue with him. He's just always got to have something to say, and the cups always got to be half empty. He makes me look like a regular ray of sunshine. As to his dedication: its unquestionable. I've been here a lot over the last few days watching my posts or downloading mods. He's been here much of the time I have been (which was often hours on end). So all in all, I'd actually have to vote for him. He might be a jerk, but he seems to be a fairly balanced jerk, and balanced jerks make good moderators.

Hmm. It's interesting that you say that, 'cause I felt the same way as Christiaan. I think it's because the site moves so slowly. If it were a hectic place with people posting D-Mods every day, maybe the staff would feel more pressure to keep things moving.

But having said that, I did feel slightly impatient when I thought my review hadn't been approved after a day or less, mostly because I wanted to be able to show Absolution that his D-Mod now had a review. It turned out it was rejected and I didn't know where to look to find that out, but it worked out in the end.

Very true. And Christiaan has a right to express his disinterest in those opinions. I also think Christiaan has a right to make his personal life a higher priority than his mod duties here. Sometimes important offline stuff just happens, you know? And you have to take care of it and not worry about your hobbies for the moment.

If we want staffers not to have personal lives or to never make them more important than the DN, then we should convince redink or whoever of that, or we should vote on some rules along those lines, depending on how this site is run. In effect, that's what Skull is doing, even though he didn't say, "Let's establish some criteria for evaluating staffers."

I personally don't care who's in charge, as long as they're not tyrants. Well, if the site came to a standstill with nothing being approved, that would be a problem too. I'm just thinking out loud to clarify what's happening in this thread, because it interests me.

I think we have enough staff because theyre doing what they should and working it out amongst themselves if one has some time off, none of them are doing a bad job so why try to oust anyone? This place used to be welcoming, helpful and friendly now a fair wack of what is posted is bad mouthing, digs and nasty comments (poorly cloaked as humor)although one plus is people still help when they ask which is great. I wouldnt want to be a new person looking on here right now, because when you first join a forum, how you are treated and spoken to will define how long you stay and how much of a contribution you make to the site.

I personally think anyone sitting on here 24 hours a day really needs to visit an addiction clinic and have it surgically removed, I mean wow - this is a game not a lifestyle surely? Constantly lurking doesn't earn you the right to try and force yourself into a staff position - nor does being toxic or just plain nasty to people and saying its a joke so you can continue to be that way. Guess the bottom line is it really doesnt matter - we have no choice in staff or how this place is run - its Redink1's site and he who pulls the purse strings gets to makes the choices. Arguing about it isnt going to change anything cause he seems to have a life outside this forum now too And for me there is no issue that staff need changed, theyre doing a great job tho I hear the money makes it worth it heh heh (jk!)

This place used to be welcoming, helpful and friendly now a fair wack of what is posted is bad mouthing, digs and nasty comments (poorly cloaked as humor)although one plus is people still help when they ask which is great. I wouldnt want to be a new person looking on here right now

Sorry, I should have specified. No, you haven't been a real jerk to me. I started of with "you come off like a jerk". I meant you just don't allow for feelings (Not that I really have any, I speak in general). I was just trying to make a concession to the others with the last line, and hint at my opinion of you, which is:
