ToKu has made the impressive looking quest Forest of Doom, with lots of new graphics and interesting stuff. Enjoy!

This hasn't anything to do with DOOM just based inside a forest, does it?

"new graphics and interesting stuff" is exactly what I love in dmods, I'll play it after dinner! (You should never play dmods when you are hungry!)

Life? What's that? Can I download it?!
Impressive size (17MB) for a quest. I'm going to check it out right away.

EDIT: Playin' it and... OMG, someone's been busy!

Is this thing finished? I found a whole town with houses which you couldn't enter, and there was no explanation why

Sometimes this D-Mod seams very well made but sometime sloppy and bad. Lot's of hardness errors at those houses too :/

A lot of neat ideas if you can find them, but I'm starting to suffer to the difficulty (imbalance) and lack of direction. I did find a map, but that doesn't help a whole lot. Especially when I'm forced into enemy encounters that I can barely scratch. Trying so hard not to cheat

Edit: Bah, I give up. Sucks I wanted it to be good (and it was for the first 10 minutes) but there's too much of a lack of information on what to actually do. I've ended up with a few items who knows what they are for, but I haven't had any real feel of progression. Hopefully this DMOD will get a facelift. It'd be a shame to see such creativity go to waste.

I'm done wandering around without a clue as to what to do and getting killed by overpowered enemies XD

A Questlog would make this Dmod a little more to your liking, Rabidwolf Maybe ToKu'll consider it.

Hi all,
I tried to make a challenging quest (the name is not by mistake) that is open to what you do and that does not have a fix 'do this and then do that'. Therefore it is up to the player to explore the world/forest. Most of the time you can run away of strong enemys - so don't give up
BTW the enemies do not come back when you killed them once.

A small tip: Don't cross the river until you have a sword!
Do everything to get the sword!
and the strength/defense/luck is random at the beginning. So if you are not happy with it - start again if you want to have it a little easier.

The quest should be clear: First find Yaztromo. He tells you that you have to find the two parts of the Warhammer. Two Goblins have these now. And then - it's like real life - go and search for it Nearly everything helps you to proceed (exept the bad stuff of course) in the quest.
There are a lot of strength and luck increasements. Not as bottles but ... So try to get stronger and everything is fine.

As to the Questlog: I have no clue what this is. Sounds to me like a series of hints! Are you really sure you are already that lost?

Yes this DMOD is finished - sorry for the houses and the hardness there. That's a PITA to get it straight. All other places should be ok.

Good luck and have fun playing this quest.

BTW: I finished the quest in ~3 hours with (1/1/1 A/D/L)

QUESTLOG

Its more used to keep track of the plot/storyline you've already completed and unlocks the more the story progresses. To put it simply, it's a script. And a very useful one if used correctly.

Yes that's number 3 of the series.

I love you! lol

The book "World of Titan" was a huge inspiration to me in my younger days. I also managed to "procure" Allansia, Blacksand! Dungeoneer, Fighting Fantasy introduction and all the game books from Firetop Mountain to Legend of the Shadow Warriors in PDF format. I own a very dishevelled Titan and a well kept '85 F'top mountain.

It's really exciting that someone else knows of this underrated series!

Hi Schnapper,
where did you got the pdf for the fighting fantasies?
I would be interested in those too.

BTW: I put some screenshots to the DMOD.

Are you joking? I suppose so.
I use the normal sword script. So where does this interesting - but wrong - impression of yours come from?

BTW: When you want to get the Claw sword, unarm your sword first to have a higher chance.

@ToKu

Because I have 9 Attack without sword and 3 with maybe?
It might have something to do with the fruit I ate which increased attack (And made the game crash if you ate too many).

Thought for years that Darkwood Forest sounds familiar... is it in canon? Or is it a shout-out to something else?

I am sorry but this sounds like a bug. The sword does add 4 strength - well normally and not in your case -
and
iplaydink: ... with the fruit I ate which increased attack
- the fruit in the tree house should only be once available. I kill the fruit after findig it
- the plum doesn't add strength

Could you please tell me what you did so I can find the bug? Thanks a lot

Hmm..
The Plum-tree does increase your attack after the first time, but it still damages you. When looking at the script I see that it shouldn't. Looks like it adds strength instead of lowering it, the exact opposite of what happens when I equip sword. It lowers my attack from 7 to 3 (I didn't have the game in front of me when I said I had 9, I only have 7) when it should add 4 instead.

Very Strange, I'll restart and see if it happens again.

EDIT: I started a new game and it's working now. That was strange :/

i find this dmod crashes my computer quite often and freezes up. also, some screens are super slow to load.
one screen with two archers or whatever they are freezes up and wont work at all.

other than that, it is interesting.

@rinky dink: Pittily you are right. The screen with the two archers has a bug - I haven't found it yet. As far as I have searched it happens only when you enter the screen from north and then turn in the screen to east before the archers start shooting. Sorry about that.

Well the 'slowness' due to loading screens is caused by the fact that I have to dynamically load the graphic of the enemies (there are too many new ones for the normal amount of free slots). I played the game on a old AMD dual core processor with 1 GB Ram without any problems, no crashes

@Vukodlak: This is book 3 'Forest of Doom' from the Fighting Fantasies Books by Ian Livingstone. The release date of it is 1983 - may by not your generation
