Hi, DNers! Y'all know the Dinkc editor "CEdit" by someone, right? I personally think it sucks, but that's just my opinion... Anyways, I don't know if it was planted intentionally, or if it was just incompetence on someone's end(no offense meant), but a few days ago I scanned with one of my anti-bug programs and it found FOUR TROJANS in CEdit!! Now, I have a personal hate for spammers and virus-planters, so if it WAS planted intentionally, speak up(and redink1 please kick him off the DN), and if not please do something about it!! anyone else know about this?

1st: Who are YOU to tell Redink to kick Someone, and in fact, anyone off from this network. In fact, Someone has been a great member to this Network.
2nd: There are no trojans in that program. Are you sure your "Virus Scanner" is not a trojan/virus itself? Because some of them are.

http://virustotal.com found two things in that file, too. I'm not knowledgeable enough to tell if it could be a false alarm, though.

I dont think its a false alarm, cause as far as I know its a good program. the one I used is called clamwin - if anybody has heard about it being a "false scanner" then let me know, but I doubt it. (oh and skull, no disrespect intended towards redink1, I would be more "recommending" it. and like I said, someone may have not put it intentionally.)

Hmm..
I'll check it with my anti virus (Avasst!) tomorrow, to lazy to do it now. But if there are any trojans or viruses in the file I'm sure someone are not aware.

No trojans in my copy according to avast. I've been using CEdit for years and never had any problem with it. Great program if you ask me.

I also ran virustotal.com for the CEdit and 2 of the 39 virusscanners found a problem (so the other 37 say it's clean).

I think this is a false positive really. Especially as someone's file was last updated Oktober 2000 and that trojan was first detected Oktober 2008.

Looks like VirusTotal makes a permanent link of the scan result, might as well post that:

Suspicious.Insight seems to be completely negligible (http://www.symantec.com/connect/blogs/reputation-based-security-suspiciousinsight-detections-virus-total ). Didn't find much about Trojan.Swizzor.Gen, would be nice to confirm that as false with something more than only one scanner finding it.

I was rather entertained by the presentation of this post. Although I don't deny that CEdit.exe could be infected. That is an issue which can be looked into without offending me.

But unless someone else modified CEdit (unlikely) the file there is almost a decade old as metatarasal mentioned, so it probably doesn't have viruses that didn't exist until several years post 2000...

Daniel, there are clowns.
I stopped using Avast! when it started false flagging half my programs.
