I need some help with a graphic I'm trying to create. Any idea how I could make Dink semi-transparent? I guess there's always the paint method of painting every second pixel white but that's too labourous for me. So I guess what I'm asking is if there's some way to automate this effect on a graphic.

Try the simple graphics tutorial. It explains how you can create a pattern of black and white pixels for shadows. If you just use black as the background color you can use this as a 'reverse template' which you can paste over dink.

A pattern, excellent idea! I've looked it up for photoshop and was able to write an automatic action script to do it^^ unfortunately it removes the shadow, but that's fine by me

Thanks!
