Re: net speeds survey?
ok, im wondering with more and more "multiplayer only" games comming out (Q3a, NWN, UT, CS just to name a FEW), what speed net does everyone have, and how common is that speed??
In New Zealand, im running on a dialup 56K line. My top ever speed would have to be around 5.2 Kbps, which is pretty good considering teh theoretical maximum is around 7Kbps..
in New Zealand, almost everyone has dialup, but the jetstart and jetstream services are starting to make their way into residential homes, jetstart being 128kbps limited, and jetstream being 1024kbps...i think...

Right now I'm on dial-up, and I get like 3 KB/s max. Usually less.
However, when I get back to college (and broadband) later this month, I have been able to download things at about 1000 KB/s.

High speed internet usually cruised at about 50 kb/s, but the upper limit is very high! The service we are now on has been known to top 1 mbps (actual download speed!) but that is rare. Every connection between slows it, some types of high-speed share a connection ( and slows when it is buisy ) and of course you can't download faster than any host machine can upload.

I am connected on Narrowband (56K). There is no broadband in my community, but the other towns surrounding it does. That is so unfair.
I usually connect at 50.6K almost all the time. I get around a steady 5.5KB-6KB per second.

I'm on broadband, and on a good day, I can hit close to 1000 kbps. But I'm in a large Metro area and that doesn't happen too often, but its still a ton faster than dial-up and I'd never go back. I also tried DSL...don't bother with this, my experience is it is no where near as fast as broadband, and it has too much down time.

I have ADSL, 640/384 kbps, which means I can theoretically get 80 kb/s in and 48 kb/s out. My max in have been 78.9 kb/s and max out been 39.5 kb/s.

hmm.. i suspect that would depend on what ISP you are going through, and what teh line quality is like...
