Are you sure it's just not a mistake in your script? Seems a bit weird if Windows Vista was at fault for not reading your DinkC file correctly here...

I doubt anybody will ever make Vista more compatible with Dink (or who knows, maybe someone in Microsoft is a true dinker)

From those of my friends who have used or tried using Vista, I've gathered that it's so safe that it doesn't let you use it at all. Apparently it deems that any software that is non-Microsoft is lethal, so it mustn't be allowed to save, write or create anything.

Stupid Vista!!
Anyways, a mate of mine got me to go round to his house one day to see if i could get Dink to work on his computer. After hours of (nearly) random registry tinkering, I stumbled apon a registry key that said something along the lines of "WDE Scripts=0" I changed that to 1 and it worked. Not sure if that'll be the same fix, but maybe worth a shot.

And then fixed and recompiled to work well in XP and fix tons of bugs.

If Vista has problems running the exe, it's probably Vista's fault for having such a shootty security system.

Yeah, well, it's what you get when you assume that the average user is dumb.

I have no problems in creating or writing scripts for Dmods on Windows Vista. I just create a new.txt file and rename it something like home.c etc and it works every time.

Yes, but the problem probably lies in Windows Vista not allowing Dink to read and/or write files, which is a big problem for any game.

I say stick with the older versions of Windows. You know, 95/98/2000/XP. Not ME though, ME sucks balls. Uh... not literally.

Or even better, go with Linux. I don't know if Dink's configured to work with that, though.

Haha, you don't know anything about Linux, do you? The whole underlying architecture and communication with the hardware is different, so it won't run Windows exe's (unless you use an exe interpreter/recompiler like Wine).

Also, don't go with 95/98. The architecture of that is outdated and somewhat crashy. Your best bets lie at newer versions of NT, or XP (which is basically built off of NT).

Yeah, well, it's what you get when you assume that the average user is dumb.

True enough though, when it comes to security or anyting vaguely technical.
For the "average user" Vista is probably fine, I haven't heard any complaints about normal basic usage.
