where did you move the actual questions regarding trouble in dmods?
I don't know... all I know is that when I got here, the post was blank.
Same deal here. Redink1 forum error, or are empty posts allowed?
What?
am I supposed to say something?
Alright- they have all been put into off-topic, so you will need to look there if you want to find them. I dislike this because now we can no longer go to a thread pertaining to just one particular D-Mod of our choice.
yay I got my first deleted post... I feel like I'm in with an elite group of people now... kind of ironic tho that my first deleted post was a blank post...
hmmmmm... i take it you found something amusing?
EDIT: I remove my bet of it getting deleted.... you cleaned it up some... it had a bunch of junk after your huge lol
EDIT: I remove my bet of it getting deleted.... you cleaned it up some... it had a bunch of junk after your huge lol
Why? it is only as imformative as any other post on this thread.... in some ways more so...
EDIT: I even made a pattern!!
EDIT: I even made a pattern!!
Heya... my first deleted post was blank as well. So was my second.
If you don't post annoying stuff, none of your messages will be deleted... You said a while ago there's a "conspirancy", but now you go annoy others by posting lots of l's, o's an x's...

Hey, I thought that I might post a pattern - I mean, it was not and is not designed to be read, and I feel for those that try to. I felt that it was more intellligent than posting a blank post...
I did not do it on purpose to annoy you, got it? I really didn't care if that post got deleted or not anyhow, I thought that it was interesting that is all... apparently you do not agree and wish to point out that I am an exceedingly annoying brat. It is not like we where having any sort of intellgent conversation anyway on this thread, so if it bothers you, go find somewhere else to post. That being said, don't expect me to do anymore text "artwork" for the unsophisticated people at this network... it is basically a one-shot deal, and I highly doubt that many people will be asking me to post another one, making it utterly pointless. This one, since it had not been done before, is intriguing, if nothing else. Anyway, there is nothing in the rules page saying- thou shalt not make pictures with letters.
I don't think that it is a conspiracy (not conspirancy) that post get deleted, I don't recall the specific time frame in which I said that, but I believe I was being sarcastic. I know and understand why the post was deleted, but I don't regret posting it. Maybe you think that I being foolish and trying to get attention, but you are wrong because I just figured that I would make something that was like a blank post, but wasn't. And at least it isn't hideous or anything.
Out of about 550 posts that I have put on the message board, only about 10 have been deleted, most with good reason for being such (two of them were blank)(two were nuclear fallout)(one I imitated DinkKiller). And while I do not always agree that the staff should be as aggressive as they are, it seems to me as though they go after my posts especially... because I have a tendency to voice my opinion, as irrational as it might be.
I do not want to get into an argument, as I agree that most of the deleted posts of mine have good reason for being such, but I feel that the staff is actually a bit abusive in this power. josh complains at people and uses all caps frequently, but his posts never get deleted 'cause he's staff. Look at this thread King Danny posted a blank post, and it doesn't get deleted 'cause he's staff. TAL posted a smiley on the G9 thread and it didn't get deleted 'casue he's staff.
Perhaps I am just overanalyzing this. I am not upset that the staff have chosen to delete certain posts of mine, in fact, it is better that way. I am only complaining because it seems that the staff think that since they are staff, they are therefore perfect and entitled to do what they dang well please, which is municipal corruption. They do their job fine, it just seems like their rules apply to everyone EXCEPT them.
YOU mr. davincicode posted a blank post and it didn't get deleted, neither did Merlin's. but dragon's did. Personally I would like some straight answers as to why some people's trash post get picked up by the garbagemen, but others don't.

*Looks at above post, but only skims through*
Hmm... each individual staff member uses their own judgement when deleting or unlocking threads. I'd say this deletion was made probably because it appears to be a deliberate attempt to break nested mode.
We are generally a bit more strict with people who are deliberately obnoxious. Personally, I like this better for the DN than holding everyone to the same standard all the time. It better allows people to be themselves, while cracking down on those who are just being dicks most of the time. And there are still a few things we have very little tolerance from anyone, like personal, baseless flames. It's not perfect, but it definitely factors in to why I liked this board long before I was ever brought onto the staff.

Dat's da real banana dat Striker be handin' ya, yo. True dat.
Did you actually read my post? And no, I am not deliberately trying to break nested mode, because I don't have my messages nested, and I prefer forum view... Maybe I am a little messed up, but, I prefer to have the posts reply off each other, and, if needing to reply off an earlier post, then at least cite it.
And anyway, what does the word accountability tell you? Striker obviously is not used to reading between the lines and finding the main idea in a written piece. MY main point was that I don't think that it is appropriate that staff can flame and spam all they want, but still hold others to a certain standard. I do not believe that these posts of mine should not have been deleted, just that there have been many kitsch posts by other people which don't get deleted, which brings to mind the idea that favoritism does take a role. You don't read an essay out of order, it just won't make sense, especially if it is well-written. I will not go as far as to say that Striker and Tal are bad readers, which is rather baseless, but they are indeed lazy ones. If you are selective about how you read and choose to only examine parts of the writing, you can, in fact, make it say anything you want. All people should be required to adhere to rules, because otherwise it really does look like you are playing favorites, whether or not you really are.
Perhaps it is because I don't speak in a layman's language that you can understand, or maybe it is because I am new, but it does seem that I am a bit of a staff punching bag. Know that I am quick to anger. I was of the opinion that the staff were supposedly supposed to be some sort of role model, but I find that I am completely wrong in believing this. All my life I have had to take shoot from people who tell me that I say what I say because I want attention. I am sick and tired of it. Do you honestly think that I believe that I should have of posted those posts which have been deleted? That is the great mistake you make because I don't. Obviously you do not know me, nor how mental I am. People have told me time and time again that I will never aspire to anything because I do not please others... If I have to lie rather than speak my mind to be an aspiration, I would rather live in infamy. Somewhere it seems to be written that you can lie, cheat, and steal all you want, but if you bother someone, then you might as well be dead. Where is the sense of morality?
I see great injustice here, as there are certain posters (I will not name them, they know who they are) that make people angry and complain and never get any of their posts deleted. In a real life situation it is sort of like the mayor and his cronies can commit any crime they dang well please, but if you look at them the wrong way, then they will lock you away. I will continue to protest how the boards are run until I see change, which may never happen. Again, just so you can understand, I believe that many of the posts of mine have had good reason to be such, but there are many posts that I see on the board that have an equally good reason for being deleted, but never do.
It is pretty obvious that as administrators, you have tried to mirror politicians, buying people's respect and shutting up those that might compromise your reelection. Well, guess what? You cannot shut out my opinion as hard as you try. I think that in an ideal situation, there would be no post deletion on the judgement of staff afflicted on the Dinkiverse, but rather that if staff recieved more than one complaint regarding a post, then it should be deleted...
We should have system, were if someone does not agree that a post should be valid, they can flag it as inappropriate. So this is my say in the matter. I do agree that posts must inevitably deleted at times, but I do not agree on the way it is regulated. It seems as though I not part of the "club", since many of my "informative" posts go unnoticed... my kitsch posts. appropriatly enough, get deleted. I figure, knowing the regulars here, that if anyone has made it this far into this post they have either skipped through parts, or are just looking at the conclusion. It is foolish, because I had many important things to say... I blame this carelessness on the degradation of the so-called youth culture, though their is nothing cultural or sophisticated about it.

I designed this message board to eliminate these sorts of problems. The staff only have two powers, and both of them are really limited.
1) Delete messages. Except, anyone can see these deleted messages, and any other staff member can undelete such a message. The horror, the horror.
2) Locking topics. The topics still exist for anyone to read, and any other staff member can unlock a topic.
Additionally, as the webmaster, from time-to-time I've gone through the hassle (I didn't make it easy) of modifying a few message posts where appropriate (to remove inappropriate links or to eliminate page-widening posts). I've also banned a few users for inappropriate behavior, such as making threats against the web site or continuing to post 20 new topics a day without listening to anyone asking them to stop.

Well, I won't complain any more than I have to, as I told myself that I would limit myself to only two LONG posts today. *sigh*
And I really don't feel like arguing the point- although it is true in a way that deleting posts does not make them disappear completely... as a regulative power, closing topics is actually far more powerful, because it keeps people from continuing to post kitsch, but on the other hand it punishes everybody, which is not good. The problem is that I am probably just overanalyzing everything like I always do. About the page-widening posts errmmmm... ***who could have been stupid enough to try that???

dang... my first deleted post got undeleted... i guess i gotta try harder next time... maybe i'll draw a picture or try to widen the page

As I noted in my post, I didn't take the time to fully read your message, and with good reason... another excessively verbose and meandering post about your feelings of persecution is not exactly something that have much interest in reading. In the future, I would suggest either less whining or to make the complaint more succinct.
Also, if you took the time to "read between the lines" of my own post, you'd see that I did actually address most of your points. I said "it looked like you tried to break nested mode"... not that it was your intent.
First of all, as I said... not every staff member has the same standards. There have been several posts that, due to our differing opinions, have been deleted, undeleted, deleted, and undeleted yet again. Inconsistencies happen. It's not perfect, but it's quick and flexible, but limited enough with the safeguards redink1 has in place. Even with the points you've made, I see no necessary reason to change it.
I'm sorry you feel persecuted, but you generally provoke it. As I believe it says in the random quotes (or something similar): "The DN is a benevolent dictatorship." We're not a government, we can't actually do anything to you and therefore, it's really not that big of deal.
Secondly, I would never post anything I would delete. I'm usually more lenient on flames... especially if they're well thought-out. From my experience, other members can be a bit more strict. There have even had times when a staff member's posts have been deleted due to excessive flames. I'm kind of curious as to where all the spam and flames you claim are from staff members are located. If you were to point these out, it might lend credence to your argument.
Oh, and don't worry, we have actually noticed your informative posts and they are appreciated.

You might not be a "staff punching bag" if you weren't generally rude and obnoxious to people. Conversely, you might not be rude and obnoxious to people if you weren't a punching bag. And the loop sees no end, of course. Who knows who started what, but obviously one or more persons bear an attitude problem - if it bothers you as much as you let on, then perhaps you should ease up on the assaults and accusations. I've been largely ignoring you for the past few days, and you've been less of a nuisance to me because of it. Thusly, I have reason to believe that may be an effective solution if you're willing to take it to heart.
Maybe redink1's views of how things should be are radically skewed from mine, I don't know for sure, but I think the board should be a place that anyone can enjoy without aggravation or provocation. If someone says something hurtful to you, ignore it. If someone does something wrong, kindly suggest what should be done and/or let a staff member resolve the issue. Try to avoid belittling anyone, be constructive with criticism if possible, and if you're going to be sarcastic, try to do it with good humor in tow. Yes, I've gone against these ideas from time to time.. everyone on staff has. Mistakes are made to learn from, though, and chances are we've all learned a thing or two on the DN. Deleting posts isn't so much an attempt to limit someone's speech as it is a way to suggest that, hey, they've done something we think is a bit of a mistake and we'd appreciate it if they tried to avoid it in the future. (True, banning is a bit of a speech limitation you could say, but this is generally reserved for people who attack relentlessly and deliberately take heed to nothing and nobody.) If you have an issue with your posts being deleted or other treatment that seems unfair, try taking it up with redink1 or another staff member before making a scene of it on the board.
I am tired, so my apologies if something is unclear or redundant, and sorry about the latter paragraph being a huge chunk.

Thats is a nice statement Tal... I'll remember it... And within the future I can try to take heed that I need to stop being so offensive.
