Uh, I thought I knew how to get to it, having beta tested the D-Mod once... but apparently I don't remember.

How does one reach the Temple of the Ancients? Perusing through the other CC2-related threads, I saw something about 3 scroll pieces, but I do believe I only have one (and I do not recall where I acquired it from, alas). I could use a bit of a refreshment, yes.

I think the lightsword is good enough to access the ToA, although by the time you get it, the game is basically over.

There's a better way; I just don't know it.

Yeah, the way opens once you get the lightsword because by that point in the plot you can't get all the scroll pieces. To get in while there's still some game left, get all 3 scroll pieces and read them on the screen with the stone henges. You get one from the cannibal subquest, one from the missing daughter subquest and one from the bar wizard's subquest, although if you mess the latter up you can buy the scroll from the shady dealer downstairs.

In pre 0.98 versions there was a nasty bug in the scroll that could easily mess up variables when it got added to your inventory, so I wouldn't be surprised if no-one actually managed to get into the temple that way before. Or, if they did, it was with only one piece.

Edit - also note that the scroll only takes up one magic slot. Depending on how many pieces you have, Dink will either say "I'm still missing most of the scroll", "I'm still missing some of the scroll" or read the incantation.

Alright, one thing I don't understand about CC2 is all these supposed subquests - I have exhausted every dialogue option I could find, with every person in and out of town that I could find, with each person in my party... and I've explored as much of the map as I could (both 0.98 and the beta)... I've finished the cannibal subquest, I never found the second item in Anbar's subquest (at least in 0.98; seems like I did in the beta?), and I know nothing about a missing daughter subquest.

And have I just lost my mind, or was the ToA accessible via the bombable rock encircled by grass in the beta? I seemed to remember that being the case, but then I went to bomb it late game, and tada... a strength potion.

Blah, I played through the game with the sole intent of making up for what I didn't find during my time testing, and it sure seems like I can't find crap, eh.

Aww, man, are there still loads of bugs? Good thing I've left 2 version numbers 'til 1.0. Best I get on them sooner rather than later.

The TOA was accessible via bombable rock at some point in development, but that was just a placeholder location and we changed it. It was definitely there in the first beta we sent out, but I can't remember if we'd finished the scroll in the last beta - it would certainly explain a lot if we hadn't.

O.K, spoilers etc.

Here are the scroll piece locations in more detail so you can definitely tell me if there are problems :- the girl you rescue from the cannibals should give you the scroll if you talk to her at her hut, to the west of the cave you rescue her from. The missing daughter subquest is in the oasis area - in one of the houses is a woman who asks you to find her missing daughter, who is found in the caves to the south of the oasis. The quest has mulitple outcomes, depending on how you handle it, but they should all result in an ancient scroll for Dink. The second item in Anbar's subquest is in the oasis area, in a house with an angry mother and a kid in the corner. You get the box from the mum, and you can either deliver it safely to Anbar or you can (pointlessly) open it, report your failure and then buy the scroll from the shady guy in the basement.

Ah, right.. I forgot all about the oasis, hrm. But now I can't fathom how to get there. Though I'm quite sure I got there in the beta, too. What the crap is wrong with me?

Edit: Nevermind, more meddling in the editor seems to have pointed me in the right direction...

(note to those reading who need a tip: bomb + castle...)

So I started the game all over, and hmm.. the initial bane boncas are totally kicking my rear. Which is weird, as I'm usually able to overcome them fairly well. Regardless of the asswhoopage, I have always thought they might've been a wee bit too powerful in the beginning, though that may just be me. Take that as you will.

Those Bane Bonca's were much, much too hard. They make me cry like a small child on a regular basis.

I later found that the battle is pretty fair as long as a big heart's dropped after killing two or three of the boncas. Though that doesn't always happen.

You can also try throwing the homing crystal at one of the Boncas if you're having too much trouble.

Chop your own wood, and it will warm you twice.
I know a really simple way to beat boncas(or any enemies that has an attack procedure, and are several in a screen). The iddea is in Green Voice in my head, when you need the gold from the slayers, but you're not strong enoungh to beat them. Just hit one enemy, and he will follow you. Then, make him hit another one, and the second enemy will attack him. The only problem is that if an enemy is killed by another enemy, you don't get the experience.

Before commenting you should really play the d-mod in question. Whilst that is a good tactic for most enemies in d-mods, it is not always the case.

In one d-mod (by Mike Snyder, I think) enemies hitting another enemy will simply heal each other. The tactic will also only work if the enemy script is made in a certain way.

Now, I can't remember whether the Bane Boncas will attack one another if they do hit each other, but their tendency to spew acid around makes this method of fighting them less valid.

Bleugh.

Plus, two of the screens only have one bane bonca on them, which kinda invalidates that tactic. It's a reasonably valid tactic on the second screen, but they still don't hurt each other much.

You know what? I think they're a little overhard as well. Maybe a 1 point drop in their stats...

It rubs the lotion on its skin...
I always use the basic "herding" technique. Works best with lotsa enemies. Most dinkers know it, just hit each one once and let them follow you and they all huddle together chasing you and your one hit turns into multiple strikes (depending on the number of enemies) But as said earlier different dmods work differently so...

Yeah, I always feel guilty making them kill one another, but I like to herd.

Just thought I'd put in my 2p worth, on the anniversary of the last post in this thread!

I find that going up the cliff and saving the nutter (thus getting fireball magic more or less immediately) makes the whole danged thing much easier. Punching spitting boncas with low low health is indeed as frustrating as SaberTrout notes.
