Did I miss it? or Isn't it out yet?
And btw, hello to everybody. I've been reading a few posts and am glad to see new people and dmods. Hope everyone is having a good summer.

ok i will start doing that!
Kool! Will it be an epic? Quest? Romp (I doubt)?
I know, I'm stupid.
I know, I'm stupid.

I think redink bragged that it'll be a dmod in which you can do whatever you wish. hmm. I also think he said that it'll propably be a quest... There's always a big chance that I'm wrong though.

I started working on Initiation just about a year ago, with the goal to finish it in One Weekend. As you can see, that has not happened.
You won't be able to do whatever you wish... there are limits. I mean, you won't be able to do a backflip, pull someone's hair, etc. However you do have a fair greater amount of freedom than normal, where you can kill every NPC (except those that only exist during cutscenes).
It is a quest, with (probably) tons of replay value.

Will Dink be able to do stuff from the D-MOD "Progeny" in it?
(couldnt resist asking),
The Vault Dweller
P.S.
...but seriously I love non-linear rpg's so this sounds great!

DONT pull another FIAT. i dont care if it takes 2 more years, do it right.
What the hell are you talking about?! FIAT had a lot of bugs, and some of the graphics were made hastily, but it was still one of the dest d-mods ever. It had excellent replay value with enough secrets and minigames to make a few seperate d-mods. Few other games have special weapons that are actually difficult to find, even if you know where to look. The magic system wasn't great, but the introduction of elemental damage was truley a great innovatation and would add alot to stratagey if it weren't done so simply. Maybe making slashing, piercing, and blugening similar to elements in that certain monsters have resistanced and weaknesses to them, and non-elemental monsters that are effected by the elements, resistince to elements provided by special items, etc. The boss battles forced one to think, with the air knight trying to force you off the platform, and you having to figure out how to damage the stoneknight. More monsters like that would be cool, instead of the standard ones in D-mods you just kill with hack and slash tactics. I could go on and on.
Please, with Initiation DO pull another FIAT
Please, with Initiation DO pull another FIAT
joshriot might be joking about redink1's professed disappointment with FIAT... At least, I remember him saying something like that, despite the fact that it was a really good d-mod. But my memory on Dink related stuff has een slipping a lot, so... who knows.
Considering your vast experience ReDink1...just do what you think is best! Of course Nietche once said "Repetition does not make a thing better." Just add a little new stuff. Im sure youve already done that though.

well... my feelings about FIAT: its funny how a dmod can be so good yet so bad at the same time.
When I first played it a couple or so yrs ago, I was really frustrated trying to find all the super cool weapons or a missed mini game that was mentioned or locating various other minor but necessary Well-Hidden things, (like the sticks to put in the fireplace to blow you out the roof, etc),BUT.... The game was so involving, intriguing, and innovative that it stuck in my mind and I knew that some day I would replay it. That day arrived last month.
It is indisputably one of the best if not The best game ever concieved. It is hard, yes! But it is doable even if you can't find everything! Who wants a game that you spend untold hours to play only to find you can't finish it or must start all over? I don't!! This dmod makes you puzzle (isn't that what a game is about). Even more that that tho, is the fun you have playing it...the delight and excitement of finding that hard sought person item, place, or awesomely bad-ass new weapon...the thrill of being able to complete a quest and finish off all the bad guys! And last but definitely not least, the journey into strange and exciting new country with unique and mysterious characters. YES! And it was all free. The only place where I've had more fun and excitement was at the schlitterbahn (As a texas boy, Redink will get this reference).
Now the funny thing about this game is this:
When I first played it, I was not that impressed. Redink hid things so well or made finding some of the mini games rather too difficult that I lost my patience with it. I simply quit looking for stuff and fininished the game the easy way. What a waste! I'm so relieved that I never wrote a review at that time. I didn't appreciate it the way the way Redink meant it to be. I couldn't possibly have done it justice.
Keep on keeping on, Redink.

Funny you should say that, as redink1 lives in Michigan..
I personally found FIAT v0.99i to be a disappointment. There are some really arcane things that you have to do, and I felt that the overall plot was lacking. And then there's the bugs, of course.
v1.00 will fix these areas (at least, I hope). I've already finished it through Tware, and right now I'm trying to think of a way to make the quests better. On the previous islands I've made it so there is a 'good' and 'evil' way to accomplish the main quest on each island, which could be a mistake. I've also fixed the bugs, made the plot make a bit more sense, trimmed down some of the huge map areas (like the main island, which was huge with nothing on it).
Of course, I haven't worked on it in over a year, I think.

That's true... the memorize the sound puzzle was new to a d-mod, but pretty annoying. However, it did make me think "outside the game" to find an easier path to completion.

So... Its been four days. Is it next month yet? And, does this count as thread bumping?
You know, I never quite internalized why the dmod is named FIAT....
And 'fiat' is a real word meaning something like 'control', and FIAT had control over the various elements of nature.
Yep. I was just thinking about that... I don't remember if it was mentioned that much. I think he said "BEHOLD, I AM FIAT" or something though.
FIAT...
From In A Tree...to a name?
What a coincidence!

Stolen from Dinker's View Five:
FIAT for Duke 3d was inspired by FTWOAP (From The Wing Of A Plane), another Duke 3d level. FIAT started out from (gasp) inside a tree, and Duke eventually made it into a museum of sorts, and the into a city, even with a teleportation vacation area. From what I remember of it, it was the most advanced level I’ve ever made. Destroyable walls, key cards, switches, teleporters, underwater areas, and more all in one level. There was a good chance that I was actually going to release it, until disaster struck. Thanks to a bug in the editor, the
sky became ‘corrupted’, and made all outdoor scenes incredibly annoying to play through. So I gave up, and never released it.
A few years pass. While reading my English 5 textbook, I found the word ‘fiat’, and was surprised to see that it was a word. This motivated me to make a D-Mod called FIAT. My original ideas were to have Dink have amnesia, wake up on a weird island, and have different arrows he could use. Thief inspired the concept of different arrow ‘flavors’. I was planning on having water, fire, and eventually rope arrows. The rope arrows would be used to cross a huge chasm, where Dink would have to battle it out with the Ancient One FIAT.

Only the end-boss should arrive in a car. You may guess what kind of car
