I was wondering if anyone would be interested in working with me on a d-mod . I have been working on riping the sprites out of SEGA's arcade hit Golden Axe . I was thinking that they might be useful in making a weird d-mod (Golden Dink or something) . Even if no one is interested I will probably post the sprites as a graphics pack .

Probably not because of copyright issues. Ask redink1 about whether or not he would allow it. I was thinking of doing the same thing with a game called ShadowFlare, but just as an experiment not for a pack.

If someone released Golden Dink, I have no qualms with that. After all, there are several D-Mods currently available that blatenly rip the graphics from other games.

However, I won't put up a graphics pack consisting of graphics that you haven't created. It was rampantly abused in the past.

Golden Axe is - I mean was a pretty cool game. knowing the game has crap graphics, why on earth would you rip it? I can draw better sprites myself.

The background graphics are craptacular but the character , enemy and magic sprites don't look half bad on a Dink background . I am using the SEGA system 16 version not the genesis version (the genesis version has all around bad graphics) . I didn't think about the copyright mattering because I wasn't taking credit for the sprites , but you are probably right . If any one was interested in the sprites I could mail them to you directly or you will have to wait until I finish with my classes and start learning more about D-mod development and start making some D-mods of my own .

uhm, there's no law that says you can't release those graphics on some fudgeing site to download, except for Redink's one. As long as you don't make profit out of it, there's nothing wrong. And then again, you really think the makers of the game are looking on this site to see if anyone ripped sprites off a 10+ year old DOS game?

There's technically a law... but a law that every D-Mod author has violated from one degree to another, be it midis or graphics or whatnot.

And yeah, Christiaan is right, if you think that people would enjoy the graphics, feel free to post them on another site and link to them from the board. You wouldn't be banned or anything.

I only have ripped a few sprites from Golden Axe at this time but after I finish the two projects that I currently working on (elemental swords , should be done tomorrow) and (three new spells , should be done in a week or so) I will finish riping the sprites and mail the directly to who ever wants them . The sword graphics that I am finishing up could be used as actual swords or spells that enchant a sword with fire , lightning , or ice elemental power . I am about 95% done with this project . The three spells that I am working on are a third lightning spell , fire tornado (if I can get it to look better than it looks now) and shadow blade .

What is the difference? It sounds like it's still graphics someone else has made?

The difference is, in a D-Mod one can use graphics from other games and use them in a nice way. The D-Mod would be reviewed and the author would get credit for everything s/he has done; the entire D-Mod and the nice way s/he used the graphics from other games.

But in graphics packs (ripped from other games), there's nothing to credit the author for. S/he has simply put them all together in a zipfile, along with a readme and that's it. And then there comes this "It was rampantly abused in the past" which is why those kind of packs will no longer be put up.

Hedberg, maybe if you had been about this place longer you would know I am actually a rather charming english gentleman.
I have been a bit of a prick for the lsat few days, so I'm sorry everybody. I've had a few things going on that have wound me up, and I shouldn't take it out on my beloved Dinkers.
