ive been thinking about point whores a lot lately, except only in real life. like guys who walk around in tight shirts with a tattoo band around their arm and short highlighted spikey hair and a hemp necklace with tamed-grunge-wannabe abercrombie clothes.

I hate all label brand clothing, regardless. I don't care if it's old navy or alpha numeric(which happens to be very popular among the skater crowd.) People who wear label clothing are commercials. It's an ingenious idea though, I have to credit the companies for that.

Besides, non-labeled clothes are boring. I just find it dull to wear a t-shirt that says nothing, for instance.

I like clothes with rarely used colours. For instance I like pink t-shirts, and I have a neon green shirt. (with an odd picture in the front) That one rules. I like dark clothes too, btw. Especially Dark green clothes.

Labels don't matter to me, if I like the clothes, I will buy them.
However, labels generally just make the price skyrocket.
For example, I bought a very nice hat and coat a few weeks ago. The hat is from a company with a bigger "label".
It cost just £10 less than he coat.

But it is a very nice hat.

Buying label clothes, no matter the price, is selling your soul to Satan! You are a commercial now Sabre, you are just part of some corporation's marketing strategy.

i usually rip the labels off of my clothes, cause they look retarded and the tags itch. what i think is boring is everyone looking the same. like people who shop at hot topic. that store is freakin stupid, i could find more originality at sears.

Lots of brand slandering here, as a marketeer, I can't let that happen
No really, brands aren't that bad. They can make you feel that you belong to a group, which is what every human wants. Some people want to belong to group more than others, so they buy lots of Hilfiger or Sean John stuff. It makes them feel better about themselves, which is nice.
Anyway, it's just another way of expressing yourself. Personally, I'll buy anything that looks and feels good. How the clothes actually look is much more important than the label of the clothes.
Anyway anyway, let's all wear what we want and not judge people by their clothes (even though we will)

Dear Safmoor,
I would like to point out, that buying clothes without labels is a very silly idea. They are invariably off a market, and are infested with all manner of fleas and other Morrowind related problems.
Whilst people may mean "labels" to include all the super famous brands (Nike, Adidas etc), it is actually pretty hard to find clothes which don't have any brand-name at all.
I personally haven't sold my soul to Satan, as he just can't afford it. In fact, he can't buy many souls at all nowadays. After some lengthy Market Research, Lucifer found that due to inflation the prices of souls had sky-rocketed.
He just doesn't have much money... there aren't many ways to sustain a stable economy in Hell. Things juat keep burning down.
Me, commercial? I think you must be right. I DID buy a hat with a brand-name after all. I guess I must be advertising the brand name to everybody mustn't I? You know, what with the "label" written once (vertically
) on the whole of the hat, in silver, and in small writing.
In fact, the only people who could read it are those who are close enough to see that I am not a baseball-cap wearing, fight starting Townie (would Jock be the right word for you americans?).
Indeed, I'm a relaxed, amiable kind of guy. I'll sit and talk to you, have a cup of tea, smoke a joint. I don't care what you look like. As long as you will be friendly and just have a crack, than you are alright by me.
So f**k off Safmoor, and go learn how to be nice to little fishies.

With love,
Sabre

I believe the standard application of the term 'labels' is to those articles of clothing which have the name of the label in plain view, either on the front or back of the shirt. And as such, you are a walking talking commercial promoting that label.

Clothes. Give me clothes! Lots and lots of clothes. Shoes to match. Plenty of accessories. Scaves, wraps, nylons, ribbons, bows, jewelry, labels and not-labels, just give 'em to me.

So Bill Hicks' words on marketing people? Hilarious ofcourse, I don't suppose you want me to take him seriously?

Yeah, some marketeers have spoiled the waters, but the times they are-a-changing. With people like Naomi Klein (No Logo)(who I support wholly) becoming more popular, maybe the global perception of my profession will one day change for the better

So you are saying that if you own any clothes with any VISIBLE label, than you are a commercialist person?

If you ask me, this is just a bit silly. In my opinion, people who just wear "labels" are a bunch of corporate monkeys. But those who refuse to wear any labels, and dismiss them without taking the quality of the clothes into account, simply have their heads up their own asses.
I don't buy clothes for he label, but I don't refuse to buy them because of it.

There's nothing wrong with "commercial label" clothes. If I want to buy a pair of levi's or wranglers, then that's what I do. They have the label on the outside. So what?
You're right. ....this is just a bit silly. I don't buy clothes for the label, but I don't refuse to buy them because of it.
This subject has gotten ridiculous.

You don't have to agree with me, and I can't control your behavior nor would I want to. Labels also label people, like certain people will go with their Abercrombie and Fitch. Wear your heart on your sleeve, not some corporate strategy!

you guys just dont get it. the point is that companies such as our friends at A&F (who have hungry homo artificially tanned and freshly highlighted naked teenage boys walking around at the entrances at the mall in my town) sell an image and people buy into it to try to fit in or something. i first learned about this when i was little and all my friends started giving up their kool-aid hair and torn jeans for tommy hilfiger and polo. people buy label clothes and it takes away the meaning, creativity, and anything else remotely positive from fashion. just dont let labels and roles run your life. simple as that.

I DO get your point Josh, and I can see where you are coming from. But while the corporate machine benefits (and also exploits), I would blame people, not clothes with brands.
In England, we have a good term for these people : Townies. Strutting around in their Nike trainers, Adidas trousers (occasionally tucked into their football socks), puffer jackets and baseball caps, they are menace to all society.
The Anti-Goth, if you will.

I realise that I'm going off point htough... I just don't like townies...grrr.

"Labels also label people"

Bollocks do they, people label people. Labels just give you an excuse. And wear your hear on your sleeve? Since when has that been in ANY WAY RELATED to what clothes you wear?

You won't agree with me, I won't agree with you. Yadda, yadda, yadda. At the end of the day, Dink wears a bandana on his arm. What sort of statement is that (if you look REAL close, it has a label too!)?

I think (hope) this will be my last post on the subject:
In the world where wearing label clothing is a unique way of expressing yourself, Linkin-Log Park are undeniable musical geniuses.
I live in a world however, that both are marketing genius.

-Judging by Sabre's opinion, perhaps this world exists in England.

whos blaming labels? the point is about real life point whores. and if anything, the most fault would be the capitalists who market to the impressionable masses. trends dont create themselves, people sit around in a room discussing what the next big thing will be. and it works. they get you hook line and sinker, reguardless if you think yer prep or you think yer goth, our clothes all come from the same rich corporate aholes in business suits.
