From the School post: Religion
Okay, I've moved the religion post from the School thread so as not to go off-topic.
Funny you'd say that involves God, because it's very disrespectful to God, if you believe in him(her?).
Now, I respect others views on this, and while I'm not firmly saying that I don't belive in a God, however, can anyone prove either that a God does exist, or where a certain religion's bible came from? I'm interested to hear any replies to this.

I'm not sure how the Hebrew scriptures came about, nor if anybody knows for sure, but the Christian scriptures came from the accounts of Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, and Paul, who all were his apostles and disciples, except Paul, who was just an apostle. And they all wrote their accounts of Jesus, which ended up in the Bible.
The other Bible that I know something about is the Qu'ran, which came from Mohammad going to a mountain or something of that sort near Mecca and taking notes of the preachings the angel Gabriel gave him there over a pretty long period of time, I believe.
And as for proving that God does exist, that's way out of my league.

to quote The Hitch-Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy:
"'I refuse to prove that I exist,' says God, 'for proof denies faith and without faith I am nothing.'
'But,' says Man, 'isn't the Babel Fish a dead giveaway?'
'Oh, dear,' says God, 'I hadn't thought of that,' and promptly vanishes in a puff of logic. Man goes on to prove that black is white and gets killed at the next zebra crossing."
As far as *actual* proof of the existance of God and/or the veracity of the Bible... well, it's impossible to ascertain. Frankly, I do not believe in any one organized religion. I think you should have faith in your own specific set of ideas, not in a group of preset beliefs that other people determine for you. *shrug* just me.

There really isn't any sure way to prove that there is one single God or higher power, but I believe that there has to be something else, otherwise what are we living for, why aren't we all killing each?(not just psychotic people) There has to be some kind of reason for survival, and I believe that there has to be something greater that created us, because life didn't always exist, and there are big differences between living and nonliving things.
Well, it is possible that Darwin's theory of Evolution is correct. It's possible that the "Big Bang" theory created Earth, and along with it, spores of micro-organisms, which eventually evolved after billions of years.
However, that leads to the question of, "How was the Universe created?" Also, if a God did create it, who created the God?

Read some books on philosophy instead of trying to get an answer on this board. It will just result in senseless arguing.
Or ask on a forum where people actually care.
Or ask on a forum where people actually care.
What I meant was... a discussion of a heartfelt topic such as politics or religion on this forum (or almost anywhere else) is silly. You're not going to change anyone's viewpoints, nobody really knows why they are democratic/republican/christian/hindu/etc, and asking for proof/reasons why people are a certain way will just lead to the arguments you've heard hundreds of times, or to flames.
If I was truly apathetic, I'd simply not respond.
But I think I am starting to come across as awful grumpy lately.

Ah, okay.
Anyway, I don't think I was, by any means, arguing there. I was just interested to know of others' opinions.

Me, I love reading the lost chapters of the Christian Bible. The Apocryphal stuff and gospels such as Nicodemus, that have since been deleted.
Some great stuff in there... aborted foetuses killing their sinful parents by burning them with bolts of fire from their eyes. The writers of these had some serious problems and/or had holed themselves up in tiny caves way too long.
But that's an enemy I might do for a DMOD... aborted foetus that can shoot fire from it's head... woohoo!

Not unless the aborted fetus looks like that one from "That's My Bush!". That show was on for maybe 5 or 6 episodes before comedy central canceled it.
I agree with redink1. In fact, I recommend Internet Infidels Discussion Board - the people there aren't gods, or even the equivalent of professors, but no offense to TDN, they're more educated in this sense than the majority of the Dinkers here, IMO.
