New D-Mod: Malachi the Jerk
A new D-Mod has appeared!
Malachi the Jerk is now finished!
Made by Cocomonkey with much of the mapping being done by Leprochaun, the production time was all of 4 months or so.
Download it now and play this epic tale of vengeance, forever altering Dink's perceptions of life, the universe and everything.

It's huge! And it's finally ready. Can't wait to play it! (again)
Whoa, an author credit. I didn't realize Tim was giving me one of those.
Holy crap. This still surprises me, despite reading it was done in the other thread.
Congratulations on finishing this, Tim! I'll play it tomorrow most likely^^ If I find the time, I'll do a review. No promises on anything, but I'm looking forward to starting this So nice to have an actual d-mod released!
Good job on finishing this, Tim! And thanks for taking your time to come back to this old community and not only bring us your great articles but also a new D-Mod! I'll try to check this out at some point, though the next month will probably be quite busy time for me (with the D-Mod contest and this one video I'm making).
Yay, D-Mod! I'm about to download it!
Also, Skull, you're a skull!
Also, Skull, you're a skull!
He'd rather be a tree.
Also, Skull, you're a skull!
Yeah. Love it, but it's kinda freaky cause I have no idea how this came to be. It just changed by itself. xD
EDIT: Though, I'd rather have the fire background with this one, but seems I can't mess around with my profile or the skull will go away. *hint hint to anyone who's listening*
EDIT 2: Gee, now it's changed. Thanks, mysterious Dinker who's doing this! Wonder if it's Mr.None?

Grats on the Skull, Skull.
Time to kick some ducks and light some pigs on fire, downloading now! Looking forward to this.

So, it's fine if you hack then, Skull?
Heh, only taking you off the banned list and replying to you Skorn, cause I knew what your post would be about. And I think it's a fair one, honestly. But I really must've struck a nerve with you cause you always get so annoyed when I get even the tiniest bit of recognition.
Anyway, it's easy to change your avatar to mine, isn't it? But you wouldn't be able to do that if I didn't have this avatar. Yep, I admit I tried that hacking thing once in the past. I know how it's done. But I'll direct this to everyone who's suspecting me: Try to change your avatar to mine WITHOUT using the registered .bmp on the site, that my avatar uses. That's right. It's impossible. The hacking only works with registered pictures, not just any random image. I have no power to register custom avatars on this site. Skorn, you know this as well as anyone, with your long "hacking" history.
Furthermore, I have sent a PM to most of the staff members. I've asked whoever changed my avatar, to publicly state this, to make it clear I didn't hack. I'm assuming this person must've been Striker, but I could be wrong.

I don't think anyone here really cares anyways.
Sure; they only care when I do it.
I see you have a new portrait Skull.
Holy shoot it's actually done. As soon as I get Dink reinstalled tomorrow on my now functional laptop, this will be the first D-mod I play.
Im playing it and ther a bug after i defeat all of the ghost knight got back to to old guy after something pops up Dink.EXE has stoped working
Crap. I know what your problem is, punisher.
You beat all those bosses without ever talking to the guy. There's special dialogue if you do that, but I never tested that special dialogue in Dink 1.08, only in FreeDink, and ordinary Dink.exe doesn't like long say_stop lines. The script involved seems to have one line that was too long. I'm mad at myself for not testing this, because I was proud of that hidden dialogue.
I'll get this fix into a new version soon, but for now, just copy this script into the dmod's story folder and it'll fix the problem.

I did what you ask me too and it did nothing to help it still crashes
welp i punched the old man and the tree together after talking with him and it got stuck ...why i cant i resist punching stuff
Which old man? Which tree?
Punisher: Um... I'm stumped. I can't reproduce your problem in any version of Dink I have.
Hoo boy, I'm going to be at this a while.

You got to the stone already? I'm impressed!
I'm concerned that this whole thread is going to be taken up with bug reports and there won't be any discussion of the content here. I'll just rename the hype thread. Post future bug reports there, please.

Skullception!
Also, I need to play more DMODs!
Also, I need to play more DMODs!
I spent the past 6 hours or so beating the DMOD 100% (I think 100% anyways ) and I gotta say, it's up there in my favorite DMODs of all time. There is a lot to say about it, but I'll save that for when I have time to write a review.
I only spent like 10 minutes on the D-mod so far because my laptop is still having a few issues (which should be solved tomorrow) and while I enjoyed all the humor so far, part of the opening cutscene had absolutely no sprite movement (no idle animation, nothing) aside from the walls of text, which just isn't natural, and it really bothered me. I still look forward to playing the rest of the mod though
The idle should play and the arrows should rotate around.
It was during the scene in the bar/tavern/whatever. The black screen with Dink and the arrows was fine.
I think he means the part in the bar. I agree the lack of idle animation kind of made everything look too still, but I assumed it was intentional to make it look like Dink was sitting. I forgot about it or I would have mentioned it. Probably just making Dink stand would look a little better, and maybe move a time or two since it's a pretty long intro.
Don't worry though DinkKiller, the DMOD just gets better from there.
edit: he beat me to it.

Y'know, one of my testers said the same thing. When I had the idle animation going, though, it just didn't look like he was sitting at all.
If you use a frame of one of the sequences where dink is falling it should look like he's sitting. Not that it's a big deal.
Uhm, let's see. I'm sure there's something that could be done to provide that screen with a little more presence. Maybe something as simple as changing the direction of the bartender once in a while would suffice. It is a tuesday morning in a bar, so not much is going to happen. That screen however lax it may be, is true to form. To me it achieved realism, which is something quite rare.

"Not that it's a big dead."
Yes, seeing as you're only using one frame it's just a small dead

Aw man, I make so many errors when I'm tired. I should really stop going to sleep at 2:30 in the morning.
I eventually restarted and I talk to to old guy before I deafeated all of the ghost knights.
You should release a different version of this D-mod that fixes bugs like this cocomonkey.
But HEY bugs aside this d-mod surprisingly good the most of the custom models like "Blonde milder" look quite nice
Why did you make me kill that purple bonca?

Nice!
A DMOD that gets finished! If I had some more time I'd start playing right away. Unfortunately this will have to wait for the weekend I'm affraid.

What the code of the puzzle in malachies house.
The walkthrough has all the answers you need (though it's plenty doable without a walkthrough). It's in the folder of the game.
The folder inst there just tell me what ir is.
Really? You don't have a folder called Malachi in your Dink Smallwood directory? Then how are you playing the game? If you really don't have the walkthrough though I will PM you the code so I don't ruin it for anyone else.
The only folders that are there are the original dink game and Mystery Island that is all.
So can you PM the code please.
You probably chose to not install DMODs in your main Dink folder. They're located in C:\Users\name\dmods by default.
Its there but its only a install file in downlands
WELL WHAT IS IT SOMEONE PM ME PLEASE.
PLAY THE DMOD PROPERLY TO FIND OUT JESUS
Crap, my bad, I PM'ed it to Punisher instead of ThePunisher. No wonder you didn't get it... Ok, sending to the correct name now...
The puzzle looks a little on the tough side when you first approach it, but it's 100% solveable. Write down all the instruction lines on paper and start working through it. I recommend cutting out all background music & tv and other distractions or whatnot and just immerse yourself with focusing on the problem and I promise you'll be done in less than 10 mins.
Thank you TheNewguy is appreciated it.
lel i wonder if the mods true meaning was aimed at forums lol.....
Ok now what the hell do I do in the barrel room with the giant rock in the way with is screen lock.
Dont worry im past the rock.

Question: How severe are the bugs? Is it still very much playable, or is it like buggy to the point I'll have to restart the game every 5-10 minutes? Just asking. Nothing unusual about D-Mods being buggy, but if it's really bad I think I'll rather wait for an update.
When I did the beta, it was less buggy than the original game. I found some bugs, though, and they have been fixed before the release. As you may notice, all the bugs that are currently reported are either spelling errors, not real bugs (but players overlooking something), or "I did this really weird thing and then it hung" (hitting a guy and a "responding" object in one blow). I encountered one of the latter ones myself (and it was fixed), and given the nature of DinkC, I'm sure there are some more.
Summary: this D-Mod has fewer bugs than most others. Tim wrote he'll post an update in a few days, so you may wait for that, but you really don't have to.

It's a somehwat large dmod, and the story folder is pretty hefty (421 scripts). Tim's made many of hidden sort of things happen in his scripts that only activate when unusual things are done within the game, like talking to npcs at different points of the game are met with new dialogue every so often, and so on. Some of the things reported in these threads are issues I could never have foreseen because I didn't expect there to be all those heaps of detail existing in the sometimes murky corners of the scripts in the first place.
Not to say I couldn't have been more through in my testing... but, umm, yeah.
Not to say I couldn't have been more through in my testing... but, umm, yeah.
I only got to a point where the game got me stuck one time, and it was right after a save point (which I promptly loaded and got on my way). So you don't have a whole lot to worry about so long as you save when you have the chance and don't do things you know are risky (even then it's not "easy" to freeze the game).
Like Shevek said, wait for an update if you like, but it's not one of those mods that are going to force you to restart every 5-10 minutes, so use your discretion there on whether you want to play it now or wait.

I just added the walkthrough to the Dink Solutions, since some people seem to like to look there better than looking in the DMOD's own folder, for some reason.
wait what the walkthrough was in the game folder dang was it a full walkthrough with bonus stuff as well ?
Most of it.
But if you're doing everything it says you can do, you'll get hints for the rest.

I sure tried to make it obvious there was a walkthrough... I mean, it says so in the dmod.diz and everything...
Yeah...people don't read much these days.
