Just Plain Virginity
Okay, well, I was having a discussion with my friend about sex, virginity, abortion, and all that jazz. He comes up with this Voltaire quote, which scolded humans for their superstitions against losing your virginity. So then the thought occured to me, what do the esteemed people of The Dink Network think of this? Well, friendly fellow Dinkers, that is why I post now. Wow that was a crappy, short story. But on we go..
Discuss your thoughts on virginity, and why or why not it's a big deal, and why you think society (its figures of authority) make such a big deal of it.
I don't think virginity's a big deal at all. I mean, big wow, your first time. It's not going to be your best. I don't see it as something to brag about. Maybe some females have a different opinion on it though. Prove me wrong. Discuss.

I believe that virginity is a great thing, and you should loose it to someone you care about, this doesn't just go for your first time, but all times. Whether you should wait for marriage or not is a diffrent story, do I agree? Not really, you could love someone enough to comit the act and not be married so what is the diffrence? Now, I will say that I have no room to talk, I lost mine at the age of 14 to a 18 year old while drunk. I never saw her again and I was lucky I didn't catch anything. There is a huge rise in teenage pregnacy here in the US and I think if people would wait for someone they truely care for it wouldn't be as bad. Now, sex feels good, hell yes it does, but what feels good isn't always the right thing to do. As my good friend says; "Life is not a garden, so quit being a ho.".

When I was 13, I told my best friend that I wanted to be a virgin when I got married. She asked me why, and to this day I can't answer it. I just think it's a nice idea.
Now that I'm not quite so naive (the internet has a way of taking innocence...) I don't think it's a big deal. I don't think that you should neccessarily have to give yourself to someone you truly love. If both partners are consenting and just looking to have fun together, like sex among friends, then I don't see why they shouldn't. Of course, as long as they use protection... babies are gross... Personally, I don't think losing your virginity is a big deal. I think your first kiss is infinitely more meaningful, but that's just me.

I read that it's all because only the woman can be a 100% sure who the father is, especially in the old days when there weren't any DNA-tests and such. Men want to be sure
that they take care of their own offspring, and not of the offspring of the neighbour, so the best way to ensure that is to make sure the woman he's married to is a virgin. All goes back to the caveman-genes and the survival of the fittest...

Marriage is a lot of money to pay and you usually get kids and stuff.Parents of a educated kid ((college)) spend about 4 million dollars on the kid in 18 years.
Ya, but you also are tax exempt, and if you are a gold-digger, you can get lots of money from a sugar momma or daddy when they are dead. That doesn't really have too much to do with virginity though, does it?
you should f someone only if you love them or something. i have a good male friend who is a total slut. although we are close, the slut part of him will never have my respect. he got anal worts or something like that before too.

Again nature's "fault", simply because a man can "produce" as many children as he likes in a year, while a woman can only make one. If you want to spread your genes, you should make many children as a man, and choose men well if you are a woman.

The main reason it is more acceptable for a man to be promiscous thatn a woman is because it is simlpy survival of your genes. A man is biologically programmed to want to spread his "seed" as much as he can.
However, I have read research that says the same stuff about woman, that they want to be promiscous so as to get the strongest sperm for their child, and thus getting the best genes.
But who cares about psychological research? My views on virginity are that it's very much up to the individual, but I wanna lose it to somebody I care about, not any old slut at a party.

I'll say that again: the idea isn't to spread the most baby batter around, it's to raise the most children who themselves grow up to produce children. That's why your parents won't leave you the hell alone about making them grandparents; they aren't done until you do.
Male sleeping around simply wouldn't have cut it as an evolutionary strategy. First off, the male in question can't just sleep with any old female for evolutionary succes, he has to have sex with a woman who is fertile. Human females have concealed ovulation. fudgeing around means rolling the dice each time, while staying with one woman at least through a full cycle (or two, or three - our ancestors didn't have our ridiculous abundnace of food and thus weren't as reliably fertile) meant a good shot at pregnancy.
...And that's assuming that the opportunity for Cro-Magnon or Australopithecine fudgeing around existed at all. Illicit sex requires privacy, and the days before bricks, mortar and loud stereos didn't provide much. Ever try to get away with something in a small town? Now try it when you live in a community of 60 breeding adults who live in thatched huts around a central camp fire. Everybody knows your business."

It's quite nice.
My opinion, it really doesn't mean all that it is hyped up to mean. Make it special the first time, but you break the ice, and from there it's more of an activity you do with someone you care about.

Nah, what I say is correct (at least, from some perspectives), but VERY badly put. Moreover I am saying that it has been said that the reason men cheat more is because they want their genes to be passed on, and it is easier for them to hide this than woman.
Essentially though, finding a partner who has the most likely chance of benefiting your offspring is the main factor.
