The main reason it is more acceptable for a man to be promiscous thatn a woman is because it is simlpy survival of your genes. A man is biologically programmed to want to spread his "seed" as much as he can.
However, I have read research that says the same stuff about woman, that they want to be promiscous so as to get the strongest sperm for their child, and thus getting the best genes.
But who cares about psychological research? My views on virginity are that it's very much up to the individual, but I wanna lose it to somebody I care about, not any old slut at a party.
