Bows
Yes. They have more depth than the simple hack n' slash swords most D-Mods use.
Automatic bow. Putting the hack-n-slash back into archery.
IRL I like them
In games I love them
In Dink I don't like them the way they were implemented in the original game
There, that was a complete answer I think!^^

No they suck !! I hate bows with a vengance and never use one nor play a game that has one as the only choice as a weapon
Helpful? heh

I meant dmods.
I thought everyone liked bows in real life... They're stringy and arrowy and stuff.
In dmods, I've always found them to be a little bit boring. I'd much rather hack'n'slash with a sword or a throwing axe and just spam death until those sucker boncas die. I was wondering if this is an opinion that most people share... If not, though, maybe it's just a difference in preferred playing styles?

/me chants *hack and slash - hack and slash* Oh yeah baby !!
I don't like them much, mainly because I find them a bit useless compared to anything else available. When some bonca's chasing me, I'd rather smack it with a sword or axe rather than stop, wait, loose off an arrow that does hardly any damage, run before the bonca smacks me, stop, etc etc. It's slow, and better to use a slightly weaker weapon that gets the job done quicker.
Bows are usually safer, but very hard to use against fast things like slayers.
That's normal bows... of course there are powerful ones like the flame bow too.

The problem with Dink and D-Mods is usually Herb Boots and Throwing Axe. They take away the usage of Bow for most players. You can just destroy the enemies way too easily with those, so the Bow is useless. I would like to see a D-Mod contest where there must be lots of use for the Bow!
Ok, that's a good idea skull - stick in with the ideas on this thread!
I never really liked the bow since its rate of fire is so low.
I've changed the bow in Day of the Carcass to be more like Diablo II. Together with some new gameplay features I hope to finally make the bow a fun weapon to use.
Here is a simple video which I quickly recorded to show what the bow is currently like. Only shooting to the west is finished right now so that's all that it shows.
Don't mind the numbers for health and mana not showing up or David's mana not increasing. I've been busy improving performance so I'm rewriting a couple of scripts, which are obviously not finished yet.

I don't really like bows either. They require a totally different set of skills. That is you need to get enough distance between you and the enemy to hit a good shot. With a sword you need to time your distance to the enemy and get a hit at exactly the right moment. The problem for me is that for fast enemies I don't have enough time to use the bow while for slow enemies hitting enemies is much easier/faster.
The only time that I like a bow is if the enemy has a really long range (say a slayer).

What thisgame really needs, is the ability to be walking/running in one direction, but to be able to aim in another, at least while using bows. That way, if you are being chased, you don't have to stop and turn around, you can just aim backwards while you're running. Another idea is make it so that you can also walk while shooting, although probably at a slower pace.
Isn't the attacking behind you thing kinda similar to the moonwalk gloves or whatever they were called from Cast Initiation? Or were they from a different DMOD...
It's like what was already said, bows don't offer more than the other weapons in Dink's arsenal. The solution isn't necessarily to alter the way the bow works, but rather the way enemies work. Making some enemies more dangerous than others would promote bow usage more I think
And it's vital that the d-mod with bows in it remembers his no hit setting on decoration

I think bows are pretty boring in Dink. There are several ways to modify the bow to make it more fun. I was pretty happy with my efforts in MouseDink to make the bow more fun. Alternately, relatively small modifications can be made to MouseDink to make the bow exactly like Diablo (mouse click on ground to move, mouse click on enemy to fire). Sans MouseDink, bows can be made more interesting by having an aim mode (e.g., press a button to go into aim mode, and then keys will move the aim) by building off the scripts I've wrote that enable firing in any direction (as opposed to just the 4 canonical directions). That will slow down the gameplay though, although ordinary Dink bow feels slow anyway.
If any modifications are made to the bow, gameplay needs to be carefully considered. Gameplay for ranged weapons is hard to tweak, because if done wrong you can kill anything without being vulnerable to damage yourself. It seems to be common in RPGs for ranged weapons (especially bows) to gradually become weaker until useless as the player proceeds through the game, because otherwise they can be too powerful. In MouseDink you will find that there is not much time to fire a shot at the bonca before you have to move to stop yourself from getting attacked (from memory), so you have to be quick at aiming and good with the timing, which is my attempt to ensure the bow isn't too powerful there.

I enjoy spamming arrows from the flame bow it does like 10 dmg it is fun just pull back slightly as possible and let loose or use light sword and kill every thing in sight I like throwing axe better though just kill stuff get the job done ok
