I'm just saying that changing even cosmetic things can give a dmod a slightly fresh look. If done well, you can create a new character. I made Sid in LOT from Dink's graphics (obviously), but you don't really look at him and say "that's just dink with different clothes" (hopefully 
) A 'tinted' color change would be the easiest and
(if it looks good) give the sprite a fresh look that at least I would appreciate if not others. Remember though, if it isn't good, it will look really bad.
If you don't have a good image editor to work in, it may be too much of a task to do well

Anyway, about the hero pack, why not. I wouldn't say it is a brilliant idea, but to call it 'the worst idea ever' is a bit of a stretch. Why people must be so negative towards others is a mystery to me...
