Redink, thank you for your reply. This is a heartfelt subject from both of us, and we will have to agree to disagree.

Pure Evil's point is that yes, it is ludicrous to compare helmut stealing with school violence.(he can speak for hisself but this is what I understood him to say).

You want to know when the last school shooting was? April of this year (2 shootings so far this year) and a new school year starting.
As for going too far, I can't speak for Pure Evil. Aren't we supposed to use our god-given minds to choose the right or wrong paths? He gave us common sense so He probably wants us to use it. I don't think what you describe would be protecting our children. I would not use any of those tactics. You can't even protect prisoners with those rules and school is Not Prison. Nor should it be made so. That is not "truly" protecting our children. There are many people on this side of the argument that propose asinine punishments such as expulsion of a first grader for sexual harrassment when he kissed a girl. This is what I mean by using common sense. We can't go too far either way.
Modification: This is me speaking. I don't think Pure Evil is wrong in his "can't go too far". I understand what he means and think Redink is pushing it to mean something else. Sorry, Redink.
"more and more kids are speaking out....and it has prevented other "Columbines". Pure Evil is right! There have been many news stories about kids speaking out and then the police finding positive evidence of disturbed and violent children planning awful things. "Since when have school administrators become mind-dead automatons? They *do* have a choice."
No, they don't. The public and the law has made it quite clear they expect reactions to any such talk. Columbine lost their lawsuit because they ignored warning signals.

"Some angry kids decided to shoot up some schools. This got media coverage. This in turn slightly influenced more succeptible angry kids to shoot up even more schools." Slightly? More than slightly. I will find you the statistics if you want. And without the deterrments that are now in effect there would be even more increase, not less. Your "do nothing" plan is downright scary. You frighten me. *fingers in a cross shape*
"Creativity is unpredictable." That's what makes us human. So be aware and be scared.(joke)

But this subject is over for me. I won't change your mind and you won't change mine. I don't think either one of us is blind sheep. More like stubborn mules. lol Oh by the way, I'm not a lemming either. I don't think I'll jump off a cliff because some so-called educated authority told me that it would kill me and I shouldn't do it. If i did that, I would deserve to die and civilization would probably be relieved. That "study" didn't make sense to me. Did you learn that in college? See, here's more of that sarcasm you like. Shame on me. Not!

I enjoyed this discussion. It makes life interesting. Hasta la vista baby
