The whole concept of hating a game for being overrated is idiotic, to me. A game must be measured by each individual by its merits. For instance, I love the video game, Nier, because it has a beautiful soundtrack and a fairly good storyline. It's primarily hack-and-slash, which isn't my cup of tea, and it has cursing up the wazoo. (When you put the disk in, you're treated to the character Kaine cursing up a storm, and it's hilarious in and out of context.)

I also love Sonic '06 for the 360 because, again, it has a good soundtrack and a decent storyline, even though it's broken as hell.

Right now, I'm playing Final Fantasy V, and so far it too has an amazing storyline and music (Noticing a pattern?). Yet, I can name a moment where the main character is treated to a bunch of burlesque dancers dancing on top of him. (A similar game, Tales of Phantasia, is much, much more crude.)

Now, I can like CoD for the multiplayer and zombies, because I'm having fun with my brothers or with random people who might very well be polite once in a while. I grew up with FPS games, like Doom, or Heretic, or Quake; I can like Final Fantasy, even if it's laden with subtlety or requires you to read supplementary information to understand the plot, or any other RPG game. I can like Elder Scrolls or various games hipsters like to play, I could even enjoy a porn game if it had a fairly amazing story. The bottom line is that each game has its merits and demerits, that some people will be drawn to them more than others, some for certain aspects, others for others.

So, TL;DR, All games have value to some people, regardless of how overrated they are, being overrated really isn't an excuse to hate something.
