Ok, lots of issues I see, so I'll try to address them all here:

I = issue
A = answer

I: Would it be possible to use an existing 3-D game authoring system and write some kind of overlay that would be specific to Dink?

A: Yes, but that would ruin all the fun!

I: don't go around making official "Dink 2". You don't really have the permission to that, unless Seth gave you one.

Talk to RTSoft about this, darksign13.

A: Yes, I fully intend to get RTSoft's permission before doing ANYTHING with their characters. This post is only to find out if there is enough interest to make it worth my while to set out on this project THE FIRST STEP OF WHICH WOULD BE TO GET PERMISSION. I don't want to step on anyone's copyright, I just need to know I'm not going to be wasting anyone's time.

I: In my view, Dink Smallwood 2 would not be written in C++ but in HTML5 / JS / Python (or some other back-end language).

A: This is a two part answer:
1) I can only write a program in a language I know.
2) Easy to use and write as the mentioned languages may be, none of them are as fast running and powerful as C++

Now on a more upbeat note: I thought up some more features I'd like to add last night. I would like to include a customisation feature for Dink ("pimp yer Dink"), so that people could make their hero look how they like. This is a somewhat necessary precursor to online play, including co-op and vs. play. Having these features should result in co-op specific mods and tournaments, respectively.
