The Golden Compass
To add to all the bananas in the forum recently....
Has anyone seen the film and also read the book? What did you think?
I just saw it a couple of days ago, and I think the main problem is that they tried to make it a children's film when the book is not just a children's book. So you end up with a too-short film with a rushed feel to it and not enough depth put into some of the scenes... plus some more gripes.
But Lyra was brilliant

The book is great, I haven't seen the film yet. From what I've heard in the popular press, your assessment is pretty accurate.
Heh, I read all the books as they came out, one by one. I enjoyed the second and third books more than the first.
I can't wait to see the film. I have my doubts that they will be able to make all three movies though, as I can't see the 3rd movie turning any sort of profit unless they make drastic plot changes.

Because of the anti-religion stuff? I heard they were leaving that out of the films (at least most of it, making it not so obvious) and just the Magisterium will be the enemy.
If they do make more, I hope they find someone good to play Will.

The books and film are nothing more than atheistic propaganda trash that are part of the lieberalist conspiracy to tear down the moral fabric of society.
And they are bound with the spines of puppies!!1111
We forgot to mention that the ink is made from toxic chemicals, NOT vegetable dyes.
