Is Dink public domain?
It's open source, but not public domain.
The license for the official Dink game source code can be found here: https://github.com/SethRobinson/RTDink/blob/master/LICENSE.md
The graphics and audio assets are not under this license however. You can use them in DMODs and Dink related stuff freely though.
Edit: I should mention there are other Dink engine ports out there too, like FreeDink and YeOldeDink, which are under GNU GPL licenses...

if dink were public domain, i can guarantee hundreds of low budget fantasy movies based on it. it'd be a major hit in all reaches of the film industry.
they're just waiting. you know it. i know it. roger ebert's ghost knows it.

Oh yeah... a retro sword and sorcery epic like this one, or this one, mind you my pick would be Excalibur with Hans Zimmer doing a reworked Carl Orff for the score.
Now who to play Dink?
Unless this is going to be an A-grade studio film then I guess Tom Holland or Timothée Chalemet are out, and perhaps a little too old now.
What about:
Jacob Elordi
Maxwell Jenkins
Levi Miller
Finn Little
Griffin Gluck
Now, who would play Seth? - William Dafoe, Steve Carrell, John Travolta, Matt Damon, Keanu Reeves?
And who would play Milder? - Mark Wahlberg (probably too old), Austin Butler, Joseph Gordon-Levitt?

Christopher walken as smilestein
Rob Schneider as the bridge guy

I love how this thread was about some licensing question, then it became "casting choices for a Dink Smallwood movie". I think for Dink to be a movie we'd actually need a coherent plot.
William Dafoe for Seth for sure!
But who would be Dink?... I'm not up to date with modern actors, but maybe Ryan Gosling? Or would he be Milder instead?
@RangerLord what are you talking about, the story is fine as it is! You wouldn't pay to watch Ryan Gosling throwing grain at pigs or fisting a bonca? I may have phrased that wrong.

rob schneider as the bridge guy, but also the burglar.
it is up to the viewer if these 2 are the same character.
and how could we forget warwick davis as marty?

I would have assumed Peter Dinklage to be the obvious choice.
you know, i did think peter dinklage since he's probably the only other smol actor i know of, but warwick davis makes for the sillier wizard.
You can't have a guy named Dinklage not have a role in Dink Smallwood, it's going against destiny. Although there's also that mad ice wizard spouting exposition (or sequel bait?).
I think this is a good opportunity to expand upon the story and have Peter Dinklage play Dink's father!
