I'm currently raising money to get RPG Maker VX ACE so that I can remake Dink Smallwood as a typical (Or rather, atypical) RPG game.

I've been thinking about how much should stay in the game (All of it, hopefully, with new things to give it a new feel to it). Perhaps new characters, new dialogue, perhaps even an expanded storyline (I wonder if Seth would be willing to share some of his original notes regarding the game and the ever mysterious PortTown and Charlie).

I get ten dollars this week, as well as all consecutive weeks that I turn in all assignments in school, thus in four weeks, plus this one, I will have gained enough money to get the RPG Maker.

I am a little agaisnt Kris myself, not out of me disliking him, but out of my religious side, what if we changed a holy script so it would look better, or just add some stuff that is not proof of, unless it was a Dink 2, but to me it seems you want to make the first dink a bigger one, also if you do make a second please add that strange wizard from the castle in it somewhere, and make more to the icelands. Plea, if you do add the icelands mabye put voltaire's icelandic song there.

I suppose you are doing it in a more traditional style, what with a battle system and all that? Also, keep in mind your environments will look nothing like the original Dink, nor will you be able to easily transfer sprites over, due to RPG Maker's tile based nature. If this isn't a problem to you, than all the power to you.

Expanding the game is a good idea, and will make your adaptation worthwhile to play both for people who are familiar and unfamiliar with Dink. So I support your idea to expand upon things (although this will make it harder to make, it will also make it more enjoyable to make, I think).

My RPG Maker days are probably over, but I do remember them fondly. I wish you the best of luck, and most of all hope you have fun.

I was thinking of making sprites that are similar to Dink characters, and I don't mind the difference in graphics, as long as I can make good-looking sprites.

Now, some ideas I was playing around with were adding party members, new characters to add depth to the game, perhaps play with a few tropes here and there.

I think it will be pretty tough getting the characters to look right. The proportions on Dink characters are very realistic, and the characters look 3D. RPG Maker on the other hand has very short looking, big headed and more cartoony style character design. Due to the way RPG Maker is designed though, it may be hard to get around the RPG Maker style of short characters.

I know it would look wierd at first, but it will probably be easiest to draw it in the RPG Maker style and not the realistic Dink style. I think there is a good chance that the tile-based look would conflict with the effect that the realistic Dink proportions would give.

Now I wonder how Dink characters would look like in RPG Maker VX style.

I think his goal is mostly just to make a different realization of Dink's main game. It won't play very much the same and will likely appeal to a different audience, mostly. In the process he will likely expand upon the story, because Dink is designed more like Zelda (with a less intrusive story) whereas RPG Maker favors traditional RPG gameplay which has a bigger focus on story (Think old Final Fantasy, or Dragon Quest games). As for basically calling Dink main game the Bible, that got thrown out the window when Seth decided that DMODs should be possible.

No, I didn't ask. Given how Seth has supplied us with the means to create Dmods, I figure that I can make an RPG style Dink Smallwood with more focus on story. Unless Seth specifically tells me that I cannot do this, then I will continue with my idea.

(Speaking of which, I wonder if Seth has some of the original notes for the initial development. If I could get those...)

Anyway, I simply want to do something both to breathe a little more life in the community while getting a few more people interested in the game. It would be free to download and would possibly be found on this site, if the staff allowed it.

Ive also become quite mad with myself for not finishing any of my Dmods.
I guess i try to make them too good, therefore erasing the bad memory of my previous dmods.

If you release a good romp or quest, you'll make me a very happy Dinker.

But don't think you have to start all over. If you already started a good idea you can always go through it in your head, figure out exactly what it is that you don't like about it or what you can't do for a full length DMOD and deal with those problems, then you could try finishing it.

I prefer to derail a thread slightly and make it bounce to different tracks, I dislike dominating a thread and forcing it to follow a two-person conversation because I was slighted ion some way or someone wanted to turn it into a serious discussion. both of which are the bane of my existence and a source of immense pleasure.

But, I digress.

All I must say now is that I am feeling rather pleasant at the moment.
