The forums need to be active for the Dn to survive and for that we need many new dinkers.Dink Smallwood is freeware right, why don't we just give the game to some popular freeware sites or any good sites(with permission from Seth of course)to increase our fan base?

It's a good idea in theory.

Yeolde is being needlessly negative again. It's a good idea, but who here has the dedication to make it happen? I for example wouldn't know where to start, because I don't visit any freeware sites myself. It would actually increase the fanbase I'm sure, so it's a good idea in theory like Skull said.

With DinkHD also available, people with an iPhone or Android can also participate in everything Dink. If we could get some well visited blog to blog about it, that sort of thing works wonders too. And there are certain podcast and youtubers that feature freeware each week. Again, the trick here is to know who to contact and how to convince them.

I think we should actually explain Seth that we'd like to have some more contributing people in here, and ask him to spread Dink around the web. He's a really laid back open guy who I'm pretty sure would agree. I am also certain that he would know more better sites on which to spread Dink, than any of us other Dinkers.

He would agree, but he won't have the time to spend on actually thinking about it I fear

Well, I know for a fact that Dink is featured on a few free game sites like Acid-play.com, for example.

Dink's a cult game. It's not popular amongst the general public.

It wasn't popular when it was a commercial game. It certainly isn't popular now.

You would be extremely surprised how popular Dink Smallwood was in Finland back in '97-'99. Quite a many Dinkers on this site come from Finland. The original game is well spread on Finnish websites, but most of those sites are dead by now.

Oh wait... you said general public.

Back when it was released on a magazine CD in Australia, it was popular too. That's how Simon K and many others found dink.

Times have changed. People aren't playing Dink HD on their phone, they're playing things like Angry birds and Doodle jump.

Well, that's the exact reason why we're trying to find ways for people to play Dink again. Times have changed, yes, but I'm sure there are people who would love Dink, but just simply can't find it.

I know many people who would love dink and why wouldn't people like dink? It's awesome, you just need to play it once to get addicted.I found dink on some microsoft sponsored site and when I saw the screenshots and file size I thought ''who would play shoot like this?'',look at me now.Dink got me into rpg's otherwise I hated em.A person like me,who hated rpg's and basically any game that has a file size below 2 GB got into dink, there are thousands of people who love rpg's,they would play and love dink.

Hmm..
The problem is that if you tell 1000 people about dink maybe 100 will try it.
Of those 100 people 90 will stop playing during the first 5 minutes, because it's not their kind of game.
Of the 10 people who played maybe 5 will finish the game.
Of those 5 people maybe 2 will think it was so good that they want to try a dmod.
Of those 2 people maybe one will join this site...

So that's why the forum is unactive..

That's how The Dink Network has always been. A small community. It has never been about how many members we have, it's about what those members do and how they spend their time on this site.

That is true, I don't think we need a bigger community as long as we are nice to eachother so it becomes a place that encurages devloƄers to create, not one that breaks down their desire to cteat a game.

The more the merrier is certainly not the case with this site. It's better off as a small community. If only that community formed of people who actually have any interest in Dink itself.

Isn't Dink available on every single freeware downloads site out there already?

Also, permission isn't required to spread the game around, is it? Isn't it a freely redistributable game by now?

I was hoping you'd provide me with any sort of links to prove that when you reply, duckhater. Not just say "no".
Checked rtsoft but it doesn't say anything about it.

Anyway, if it's not freely distributable, that seems kinda weird, considering the game has been made freeware, open sourced and since Seth is an overall swell guy.

Alright, I see now. This line jumps out in particular:

You may distribute it in its unmodified form freely as long as no fee is charged.

So that is, upload the original installer anywhere you like. Just don't rezip it or anything.
