Hardness Problems
Can someone tell me what I am doing wrong. I am using windinkedit plus
I get the hardness for 'boundaries' (edges I don't want Dink to walk thru) the way I want em on my screens - but often when I make another screen and put the hardness in where I want it - the hardness of some of the completed screens changes. I have way too many screens to keep going over and redoing them again and again cause this happens a LOT- what am I doing wrong that changes them all the time???

are you editing the hardness tiles in hardness mode?
if so when you edit one hardness tile the hardness is changed for any map tile that used the same hardness tile

Yup using hardness mode
Man that sux... how do I get around that - cause it isn't changing each one I use to the same as I change it to - its a stupid little dash repeated across the entire screen
Do I need to start over and do the hardness for all screens first then add my sprites (hard) I have 51 screens so far.

i usually use invisible fences.
Ohh I use invisible fences as well and thought I better take em off and try doing it properly - I shall resurrect fences methinks - thanx
Unless you know what you're doing (or you can afford to crap up your hard.dat), never just pick a tile and press enter, because that will edit/add base hardness to the tile and the changes will apply to tiles on all screens.
Just make sure you press H first, so you're in hardness editing mode, and toggle through different hard tiles with [ and ] (these keys may be different if you're not using a basic US keyboard, though), whatever you do here will only apply to the tiles you're editing right then. If you press enter and CHANGE the hardness of a tile, though, those changes will still apply on all screens.

yeah, what scratcher said; I for one found that using invisible fences makes map-work very messy. Have a look at the hardness lay-outs in the original Dink for ideas as to what hard-tiles to use.
ahhh yep scratcher that's whats happening - mostly I copy the hardness from somewhere I want but occasionally I use the H and enter and that's when its messing up. I had looked at the original game and thought the hardness was very "clean" so started removing my invisible fences (cause they ARE really messy) and tried to do it tidily like that - and that's when I started having trouble.
Shall reassess cause I really don't wanna redo all the screens I completed already.
Thanks for the thoughts guys, appreciate it
