A festival of boredom.

Style: 6
Some humor. A large, boring map. A modicum of interaction (i.e., with objects). Forgettable music.

Gameplay: 7
Some effort went into balancing the gameplay... at least I thought so until I found a not-so-secret secret. WAY too much wandering around, and no herb boots. Some of the things you have to do are entertaining, but for the most part they are dull and standard. I did not have to use a walkthru, which is a bad sign: this game will not tax your brain cells. To be fair, I thought the final boss was relatively easy to kill with just a sword.

Story: 8
Well, it made sense, mostly. Does that make it good?

Overall: 6.9 (-.1 for length)
Probably not worth the download, although its quite small (plotwise) for an epic. Download QFD2, by all means, but don't bother with this one unless you are prepared to wander aimlessly for a while. I honestly have no idea what people are talking about here... maybe they liked the secrets?

Quest for Dorinthia by Bill Szczytko

Dink must go on a quest and save Dorinthia.

I am reviewing this as if I was playing it for the first time and by 2000 standards.

The Good: This is a marvelous dmod. The music was good, lots of action going on. A map was available for us to find, so we could explore the entire dmod, even though I got lost several times. Talking trees, 4 or 5 villages to explore, lots of pillbugs, dragons, slimers, boncas, slayers and wizards (though they never really die) to kill. Was unable to punch Milder though. There were semi quests also, that had to be fulfilled, before Dink could go to the next level of the game. Even got to kill some guards. The story itself is brightly outlined, with colourful people, hidden treasures, secret places, but lots of hints given throughout the game ( and still I got lost…lol)

The Bad: No juice potions to buy. Weapons are the regular sword and clawsword and also the 2 types of fire, but I ‘m thinking that, that was all we needed then. So remember to save a lot. A few hardness spots and some minor glitches, (ending is rather confusing) but nothing of importance.

Overall: This was the 2nd dmod I played and a wonderful dmod for anyone just starting out, before they get into any of the more harder ones ( *cough*FIAT*cough). The story is simple (save the girl) but along the way Dink encounters many an adventures . The good news is Dinks 2nd Adventure with Dorinthia should be coming out sooner (orlater).

Dink has to save princess Dorinthia and defeat an evil wizard.

Storyline: The main quest is simple enough: just save the princess. But there are loads of sub-quests and before you can even think of rescuing her, you have been adventuring quite some time. The storyline is balanced and all the things you have to do are in one way or another part of the main quest. Therefore it never gets dull and you really have the feeling you are on a heroic quest.

Map: The map is huge, but it almost never gets boring. The different area’s have their own characteristics. It reminds me of the original Dink.

Graphics: The graphics fit the different purposes. They are not new (some are borrowed) but actually I didn’t even notice in the beginning since I was so absorbed by the adventure. The title screen is nice.

Music: Only a few midi’s. I can only tell that there are midi’s because I checked the directory. While playing I didn’t hear any: that wasn’t because the volume was off or because there was something wrong with the game, but I was so focused on the game I guess the house could have gone up in flames without me even noticing it.

Good: Definitely the mix of good gameplay and storyline to which secrets, puzzles and loads of tasks are added. Furthermore, although the map is huge, there is no wandering and wondering what to do next, but just exploring and anxiously awaiting what’s going to happen on the next screen. You get a good change of building up levels, strength and so on, actually without even noticing it. There are not that many savebots, but they are placed on strategic places and you can easily remember where they are (a thing I always seem to have trouble with!). There are enough clues given to find your way. There are several towns to explore and this reminds me once again of the original game.

Not so good: The town of Private, since there is nothing to do, well, almost nothing. That seems kind of useless to me, since it looks very nice.

Overall: An outstanding D-mod with plenty hours of adventure.

Fit for: You want to be a hero? Download this and a great adventure awaits you!

Nice quest with a very good and well worked out storyline.

The map is a bit large to wander, but exploring does get rewarded with lots and lots of goodies. That many that the fighting became a breeze... (I must have accidently found all without the walk-through).
It made the gameplay a bit unbalanced.
Also on that score: whether I fought some of the 40p pillbugs or a 200p slayer, they both seemed to fall over after 2 of 3 hits, so there didn't seem to be much difference in strenght between them. Then again that may also be due to my level up choices (I often choose defense).

I found a few hardness errors, but nothing mayor and *nowhere* did I get "stuck" in hardness.

Nearly all "secret" areas were well indicated and you got justly rewarded each time.

Me like secrets
Me like goodies
Me like magic
Me like burning trees

Overall: good dmod, download & play.

This game is very good, lots of secret places of screnes going to other dimensions and caves. You get a break from constant music. Some humor, one of a canon and two soldiers in the wrong DMOd.

Some flaws:

In the beginning it is hard to find a save bot and the ones you find are concealed and you cannot save unless you constantly go back into something. I got killed several times before I found it in a cave outside the gate. You have to get all the potions and other things to get there. Way to many bugs. There are not to many hints as to what to do.

2. Several potions not attainable set on river bank.
3. Dinks footing get stuck in certain places you get in to places and get stuck for seconds to minutes before you get out.
4 THE BIGGEST FLAW OF THEM ALL---YOU CANNOT KILL THE WIZARD WITHOUT THE FIREBALL MAGIC and you have to get the fireball magic so the wizard in .

I am going to be a squealer because the fireball is important to finish the game and I did not know how to get it until I read the walk through on the net at http://users.skynet.be/dinksols/walk/dorinth.htm which was too late for me to kill the wizard.

I like the mod. It has a large map but you cannot get to a lot of places. I may try to play it again in the near future.

This is the very first dmod i have played besides mystery island that came with the game. there were a few harness problems but I figured it out(Ex. The bridge). The story is easy to follow and well put together. the only bad thing is that it was to short and I COULDN'T FIND ANY MAGIC GRR! There needs to be more save things in the begining though. Overall I give it a 8.8

The Quest for Dorinthia.

The gameplay:

Cool game with a lot off small quest's to do before you finally meet the wizzard that brew up this evil. This was accutally the second time I have played this DMOD.Firts time I did kill the big end boss, this time I didn't cause of my magic problem.Brings me right up to my point of critism.Although the thought off the skulls was great..(you have to follow skulls to places and there find and learn magic)...it would have been better for the game if there where some hints about it as you progress.Personally I don't like to read a walktrough cause they spoil a great deal of your fun but sometimes they do come in handy.Overall it find it a verry entertaining game with a good storyline.

The graphics:

No real chanches compared to the MAIN GAME and that is not a bad thing. Its difficult to make new graphics I assume, so when there are its not always in benefit of the game. There where some minor bugs, got stuck in the screen a couple of times but it was a nice world and no matter what Milders says, the map was just fine. ;-p

The music:

I have to admit, I don't really pay to mutch attention to the midi thats being played as long as its not anoying. And in this game there was no anoying midi. Some familair sounds came a cross that brought back the memorie f the good old times from the MAIN GAME.

Al ad up;I hade a great time playing this game!!

This is the best Quest out there. Takes a couple of hours to play through and its worth every minute. Dink must save the princess Dorithia and defeat an evil wizard. Some cool secrets to be found and the author made sure to make the most out of the map. Areas that seem to be worthless space lead to potions and hearts. Very well done. I didn't get bored once playing this mod, it actually seemed to be more of an epic because of the great gameplay and the number of tasks to be done. There is one town that is kind of useless because someone will kill you if you go in. There is an alternative entrance, but there is only one house you can go in. An improvement here would have been the option to kill the dude who kicks you out and actually have something else worth doing in that town. Overall, a great d-mod, lacks in the music department, but who cares. This, along with its sequal, are the best non-epic d-mods available.

A very nice DMOD. No new graphics as such, a few borrowed (with due credit given). It is very well thought out story wise. Nice planning. A bit boring in certain sections, but then what DMOD isn't? Overall a good play, and with the added bonus of a part 2. (Which is even better than the first, yippee!)
