I've always wondered. Does anyone know what is/is supposed to be Dink's age in the original game.

Just asking...

Seriously, good answer. =P

He's supposed to be a young man... His exact age isn't really important, it could be anything from 15 to 25.

Also, it's implied in Mystery Island that several years have passed since the original game (mainly in his dialoque with Peter), even if it doesn't show in any way. His age is just not something Seth & pals felt like putting emphasis on, so, decide for yourself.

I've always thought of him as being 18. Maybe because FIAT puts him at 27. And FIAT is 9 years after the original.

Plus, 18 makes him young enough to have a lot of adventures in his life after the original game... But as scratcher says, determine it for yourself.

I seriously doubt that Dink was one of those adventurers. His "friend" Milder seems be around the same age as Dink and he became a knight in the kings army when Dink still were a pig farmer...

Besides, he was forced into his journey after that evil Ethel burned his house. I'd guess Dink was around 18-20 years old when the game starts.

I always saw him as being around 16-18 years old, too. I think the 22-25 range would be a little too old for plot coherence, considering how patronizing the village guard is when he doesn't want to let you out.

Besides, he was forced into his journey after that evil Ethel burned his house.

...Am I missing something?

Yep, you're missing the discussion here.

Yep, I agree it gets less and less plausible the more you go over 20. 14 is stretching the lower limit, though I could still grudgingly buy that. Is Dink 12 though? No ducking way. (As far as fantasy books go, 15-14 is usually the age where it starts getting difficult for me to take the hero seriously)

Something to consider is that the original game probably takes a while to complete. While Dink does various things, Milder wins a jousting tournament, marries Lyna, goes missing... For all we know, Dink's road from farmer to hero itself could be taking YEARS.

Well, I always thought that Dink is probably 14-19 or 15-19. Not a fair change that he's 20 or over.

Let us save our effort and just lie down and die.
The joyous thing about a good RPG is that you make the story your' own, to a degree. To me, Dink's age was relative to mine, though I usually think 17.

17 is my guess too. Boys matured a lot faster in medieval times than they do now, too.

I'm not saying Dink is mature. Or am I? I don't know what I'm saying!

Let's just say he started the game at, say, 15, and as the game progresses it neglects to mention the 5 years of time passing or something. Say, 1 year passes from when Dink starts the game to arriving at the first town, then another year when he gets to the 2nd town. They just dont celebrate birthdays in game lol.

Or is my reasoning just another addition to this fubar stuff?

Actually, I think he was meant to go through the whole game in just one day.

The difference is that's baseless, while assuming Milder didn't do everything he did in a day makes sense.

Having Dink eat and sleep in the game to show that time passes would be boring and pointless, so it doesn't happen. If you don't like the idea of time moving without fade downs and lullabies, the game doesn't make sense. The king returns from abroad five minutes after he left, the rocks blocking Kernsin, bridge to Windemere, get fixed in the blink of an eye. Etc.

I swear, I've seen him set up camps between screen changes.

Clearly there is a valid answer here.

Dink is ageless and eternal.
