Ruminations
I am sad to report that the Dink Network Staff (myself included) have been tragically distracted. While distraction is always sad, do not remember us as we are distracted, remember us as we lived.
Is anyone listening (barely) motivated? Do you want a fancy colored star next to your name? Do you want TRUE POWER?
New staff members needed. $0.00 (USD) / year. Easy work. Apply below.

As this is the only forum I've actively stayed on for more than a few years, I definitely wouldn't mind doing it. I'm perfectly impartial and polite, too, just look at my older posts.
I wouldn't mind a minor position
Also, a foreign leader would be a nice change methinks.

I really think this site needs a quick kick in the groin. You know, for motivational purposes.
I'd like to provide that kick, so sign me up!

If you think I might become an OK staff member, then sign me up. The salary is pretty good as well
Sad to hear that (all?) the old staff won't be around much more.
Well there seems to be a surplus of applications but I'm sure one more won't hurt... I'm interested if you think I'd be any good. I have plenty of free time at the moment.
Edit: Forgot the smiley

It’s funny that you come up with this idea now. I was thinking about suggesting this since the staff doesn't seem to do very much. (Waiting for over a month for an uploaded file to get on the site is just annoying.) Currently I'm spending nearly all of my spare time on Dink because of the contest and though I don't post much I do check TDN frequently. I wouldn't mind helping out as a staff member in case you still need more but I would like to know more about the staff first.
Are there any rules?
How does a staff member for fill his/her tasks and what are they?

Ai. Schnappers (alchohol riddled, sleep deprived) heart bends with sorrow. Well, I tend to frequent TDN at pecular hours and boast a wierd desperate sense of humour but, Hey! I would be glad to offer my services to maintain Mr. Smallwoods Greatest fanbase in operation!
I could help out.
I haven't been really actively with Dink recently though. I haven't seriously worked on a DMOD for a year or so, and my latest review was written 8 months ago. (One or two new reviews might be on their way...)
In spite of this I have been checking the forum regularly for quite a long while. So I could help in some forum moderating or poll-making. My HTML ability sucks though, so don't expect anything fancy there.
And I'm going to buy some groin protection...

I am rarely on, barely current, and merely pleasant. I would do nothing for the forum, little for the users, and nothing cooperative with the other staff. Pretty much I am current with the staff's workings as of late no? Seems as though I am best choice for a staff position. Right-o.
Of course all is said in jest.

Yeah, I (myself) think that I would come pretty good staff member. I suck at d-modding, but atleast I upload stuff that staff are nowadays lazy to do.
Death Tournament to decide who will become the next staffy
Perhaps there should be some sort of MVP (most valuable posters?) system in which certain select 'worthy' members can perform the necessary tasks such as giving the OK to files and reviews. When one MVP resigns, they can choose a successor (within reason of course.) This way the DN could still function in the absence of staff members.
Or maybe revamping the staff is better. It's just an idea.

I, for one think that's a good idea. it could potentially secure an ongoing future for TDN, since when someone retires, a new, suitably intellegent creature would be ready to run the show!
I will agree with schnapper & rabidwolf on this one; as for deciding the initial staff that is up to Redink and/or the current staff, should they manage to appear before the decision is made.
Don't bother to give him ideas. They probably don't even have the time to read your posts. And they probably choose someone more "wiser" staff member than any of us. No offense.
And why would he start a topic that asked for responses with no intentions on keeping up with it?
I imagine that the MVP system I proposed would cause a lot of unnecessary extra work as opposed to putting a few members on the staff. Whether it's a good idea or not isn't the real question. The real question is that how would he find the time to establish this system, seeing how he already doesn't have the time to frequently moderate the site.
And as for future staff members, I think that RedInk1 already had a few choices in mind. There are plenty of responsible members that have been areound for a good while and continue to remain active.

By "us" I meant a few one who had already posted on the topic.
EDIT: I would probably be ruining my changes if I said: "Pick me! Pick me! Pick me!" but I really would want a staff place, and I've also got plenty of time free, (no job, no school, not anything at the moment) so I could be posting new D-Mods every 30 second (if it's possible?).
So, I would be happy to get a purple star next to my disembodied head.

Can you explain the difference between an MVP and a staffmember? The only difference you mentioned is that an MVP would have to say so if he/she retired. The problem is that retirement in many cases isn't so absolute. Some staffmembers are away for three months and then pop up again...
So yes, probably we need a few extra people on staff. The only problem I see is that the entire site might become a bit top-heavy, meaning that there might not be a real consensus on some things. (Like which posts are acceptable, what reviews should be approved)
And I sure hope redink1 (or tal) has a few choices in mind. There is a reason not everybody is on staff...

an MVP is Maybe (a) Virtual Politician (of TDN)
Not sure if this is what he means, but an MVP would be either someone who posts responsibly (grammar nazi maybe?) or a frequent D-modder, or perhaps a combination of both?
It could also refer to those who are capable of providing sufficient tech support to new D-modders and such.
Though, as I said before, a combination of all the above would also be effective.
I however think we should stick to a Staff list It makes much more sense and doesn't need explaining.
Besides, we could also use both an MVP and a staff system combined? MVP's control posts and reviews, Staff control those as well as file uploads and news.
Like an Admin/Mod system revamped.
Unless I just explained how the Staff system is already set

The main idea for the MVP system was to make sure the site is frequently updated in terms of making sure files get put up and such.
There are already a bunch of staff members, but only 2 or 3 even show up anymore. If a few new staff members can get things done in a timely manner then I'm all for it, but at the least I'd like to see some sort of power hand-off when one of the staffers doesn't plan on showing up for an extended period of time. This would keep things rolling smoothly.
The only thing I want is for whatever system to be able to sustain itself and have no more extended vacations from the site without some sort of notice or replacement.
This basically sums it up:
-Staffers can replace a staffer that hasn't shown up for awhile.
-Staffers can choose a successor (other staffers have a chance to reject the pick?)
-Staffers can vote off unproductive staff members?

I wanna vote for which staff member we’re going to sacrifice to the DDC.
Metatarasal has a valid point about the site becoming a bit top-heavy though, and it also wouldn't be much good to have the staff changing every fortnight or so.
Anyway how would MVPs be chosen? Some system of voting on posts (à la Youtube) would be a bit ridiculous.
And I'm sure Redink1/Tal/whoever does have someone in mind, because it was pretty predictable that they'd get 50+ responses
Edit: @Exdeathevn someone who posts responsibly does not necessarily = grammar nazi! And tech support isn't limited to staffers - that's (partly) why there's a whole forum rather than just Dan's email address.

Maybe an addition to the Noble + Peasant titles would work? Something for former staff members who have (seemingly) retired? Not that I don't love the duality we have now.
Anywho, I should get a bit more involved than I am. My main difficulty is no longer having internet access on my PC, and having Xbox Live sucking my life away (New start on Mass Effect, Dan?).
Sorry, guys 'n' gals. I'll release a new d-mod eventually.

And, besides - if NAZIs ran the show - where future in that?
I think a good attitude is pretty impotant. the DDC must have the best and nothing but the best!

I'm wondering if these ruminations are still being considered... I assume so since redink1 hasn't been online again that I can recall or tell since this topic was posted.
Sparrowhawke: 'Tis a good point there, apparently I'm not thinking in regards to this being a forum and also forgetting that it'll likely be multiple people getting a different colored star next to their shiny little avatars.

I'll try to prod him and talk with him about it soon, since the only DN member I ever see online through my IM system anymore.
