Re: new contest
would anyone be interested in doing another one screen dmod contest or any ideas for a different one? discuss
Repeating the same contest so soon doesn't sound like too much fun, especially since all the dmods would propably be "weird" again, which sort of removes the big deal from only being able to use one screen.
How about a mouse-controlled dmod contest?
How about a mouse-controlled dmod contest?
I DON'T KNOW
better yet, a 12 screen D-mod contest
better yet, a 12 screen D-mod contest

ok so here are the choices
one screen dmod part 2
mouse controlled dmod
12 screen dmod
dead dragon carcass theme dmod
which one would you guys rather create/play

Nah, the mouse controlled DMOD sounds much more like an interesting challenge... From a developers perspective atleast.
To play, well... I'm also interested to play 'The further adventures of Bishop Nelson' one day...

There are only a select few here that are skilled enough to create a mouse-controlled D-Mod, and I doubt many people are actually willing to learn.
I have a suggestion, though. How about just a D-Mod Contest. No rules or anything. After a period of time expires, the best D-Mod released wins.

nope sorry those are the choices. if you dont want to vote thats fine but im gonna do whatever the most people pick out of those.
Alrighty, then.
I thought the OSD was a bit of a challenge, and I was disappointed not many people tried out, and I reckon if I give it another go I might actually create something decent, so, I'm gonna vote for One Screen D-Mod Part 2.

One screen's been done, and fairly recently, so it would be nice to have something new. But then it was/is a good idea and fun.
Seeing as 3 out of the 4 last one-screen D-Mods were mouse controlled, these two ideas would probably end up merging anyway.
Mouse controlled would probably inspire weird type D-Mods, but Someone's MouseDink could be used unless the contest is to develop your own system. Or maybe you have to make a D-Mod using MouseDink?
12 screens... could be good, but it's a kind of random theme. Have something with meaning to it.
DDC themed contest. I can't believe this hasn't been done already
Hmm.
Are you still looking for ideas or is it definitely going to be one of these four?

New sugestion:
A parody D-Mod contest: to pick a popular D-Mod, and re-make is as a parody(like "Meet the spartans" for "300").
What do you say?

So... a game about decomposition?
So... a game about decomposition?
DDC, since that has been mentioned now. Recasting my vote for it. The Church of DDC needs more history to it.
I agree with ExDeathevn. It's sort of hard to follow the DDC cult without any background information about it

I'd like to see mouse controlled dmod. There are lots of arcade-type games that would be fairly easy to port to Dink, and most use mouse. I don't agree with DinkDude's comment that mouse controlled dmods are esoteric. Every DMOD has an intro screen - make the buttons move and you've got a mouse controlled game. A game where you avoid touching the walls is just as easy - kill Dink on buttonon/touch. A game where you try to fire a projectile (like a hamster) as far as you can is easy too. More complex are real time strategy, lemmings, worms/tanks, etc.
Plus, someone may make a dmod with MouseDink
MouseDink can also be used to make a LucasArts inspired old school adventure game, too
A themed contest may not be a good idea, especially so soon after a rather lackluster themed contest (2, late, entries).

It was just his physical representation that died that day. Nothing serious...

I was actually thinking about making a Lemmings clone, but never got further than thinking about it

Oi!! Mine was the only one submitted on August 20th!! and then the deadline was extended which then i again did not miss. But u guys want to have a new contest without the results of the old one out yet? I was thinking of a contest that judges the story, the gameplay, the spells, the weapons, the graphics...etc u know, these kinds of things and leave its theme open. I mean y should we limit people's creativity?? But then the deadline would be in a year if we're expecting really strong dmods to appear.

Skull da man

i've got a new contest idea. how about making a halloween contest. so that all the d-mods going into that would be uploaded on halloween.
I don't know if you've had this kind of contest before, but then again ,who cares? If you could have a 1 screen contest again why not a halloween contest?

I think there was something like this like Red Jacket Murderer and one D-mod where you have to scare all ppl. I think i have a great idea. How about making a adventure with someone from the game like... Link from Legend of Zelda with Dink Smallwood. Both of them would save the world for example...Dink is in Legend of Zelda world and Link in Dink's

Cypry's sugestion looks good for me (I was going to give the same idea), it would be cool to see some movies parodies mods.
Some ideas:
Parody mod: Make a parody of a movie, TV series, in a mod. Ex.: "Rainbo IV" "Mission Possible"
Real - Unreal mod: Mix up in a mod people from the real world, so Dink could find Osama Bin Laden and need help of Chuck Norris to defeat him

Dink Network Mod: Create a game with the DN guys! Ex.: GOKUSSJ6 is trying to take the world with pokemons and all the DN have to stop him before is too late!
BFTG finish: Complete the "Back from the Grave" mod, it's something that every Dinker wants to see.
"I'm Bad" mod: Create a Dmod where you are the villain trying to control the world, I never saw a mod like that.
Alternate Story mod: Create a mod with Dink map, persons, but things happen a lot different. Ex.: Milder is turned into a duck and Ethel save the world from Seth's evil hands.
Life D-Mod: A mod where you have to reach a life of sucess, working, stealing, a free play game. Ex.: Stick RPG, The Sims, etc...
Not weird "weird" mod: A weird mod that can be cool and RPG style. Ex.: A mod like Dink Arena, but you have to reach the arenas walking throgh the world, have a story, enemies, etc...
That's all, the ones that I most like are "Dink Network mod" and "Not weird weird mod", 'cos they aren't so much hard to create, so everyone could try it, they don't need some new graphics and might be cool to play these mods

Will everyone Stop with POKEMONS TO ME! IT ISN'T FUNNY AND YOU INSULT ME! SHAME ON YOU ALL!
That would be impossible, GOKUSSJ6. It's stuck to you like a bad nickname.

ok this is getting ridiculous. im not making pokemon dmod contest be serious ppl. for crying out loud. jumping jesus on a pogo stick.
who is planning on actually MAKING a dmod and what would you like to do. halloween contest is out cause AHP is already the best halloween dmod
theme dmod is out because its kinda tacky have you played stardink? omg. no.
im leaning towards a DDC themed dmod contest. but why was the last theme contest so unpopular? im putting my money that this one is plain and simple just more interesting.

I'd like to be able to do something small, so a one (or two!) screen contest is what I'd participate in (this time
).

It's funny that you mention limiting creativity as a bad point, it's the main draw in these "special" contests for me- Forcing people to BE creative, rather than making another generic adventure about Dink defeating yet another evil wizard.
The Rise to Power contest propably would have benefited from a year-long deadline, it's a shame so few people entered especially since you and marpro gave it a good effort and then no one else did.

The funny thing is, that's what about half the entire Network said in Josh's One Screen D-Mod contest topic.
But, Josh, can you make the final call as to what the choices are we can vote on? Because the movie parody D-Mod actually sounds pretty cool, and I'm thinking about changing my vote.

the only thing i dont like about doing movie parody or video game adaptation to dink is its not specific to the dink community what we do can be sweet enough on its own without trying to be like zelda or star wars or lord of the rings or whatever
Okey-dokey.
The Dead Dragon Carcass sounds good, then.

Believe it or not, I actually had a d-mod in development where the DDC was heavily involved, but I didn't get beyond the mapping stage of the first area before ADD set in and I got bored with it.
So you're going to give yourself an unfair advantage and finish it for the contest (if it goes ahead as DDC) and win the prize without giving anyone else an equal chance?
Eh, considering that all I have is a map (the absolute easiest thing to do in Dink), it wouldn't be much of an advantage.
Wait, are Staff Members allowed to compete? There won't be as many judges otherwise.
Well, I'd probably participate, but not with something big, probably just like DaVince said.
my contests are put on by dink squad and so far ive been the only judge. i dont get a vote in the DN contests they are a seperate thing, the only thing im allowed to have to do with the DN is to post news messages for the dink squad.
but im probably gonna come up with an alternate form of voting next time to make it more fair. everone else seemed to think i cheated beuc out of the first place on the last contest because i picked the one i thought was more original and it ended up not necessarily being the case.

If you don't know i ALREADY changed my nick to Kenji Kusanagi but i can't change it here cause there isn't any option to change the nick except the admins(I don't think they will change it)

No one thought you cheated him out of it! Well, at least I didn't. I thought your choice was rather fair. Beuc's was amazing, but unoriginal. Despite the fact my review said Beuc should've received first place, I've changed my mind and I think the results were correct.
Real time strategy... Wasn't someone (not you!) making a D-Mod like that? What happened to it?
I was working on that RTS D-Mod. I'm currently working on other D-Mods but I hope to finish it someday. When I'm going to continue working on the RTS D-Mod I just need to find a way to let (brain 9) units target eachother when they get close.

no offense but... why dont you just play warcraft or c&c instead of all that work
It's not really about the result but more about the fun I have in creating it.
@ Gokussj6-shouldna your new name be Kenji KusanSKI"? Ye do bear not da Nip flag, but le Polski flag.
BLOODY WORK, DUMB EMOTICONS!!
ANYWAYS! I say we do a Dead-Dragon-Carcass/ Father Nelsy-boy contest.
Few things are more cool than a DDC.
Actually, we could start a DDC fetish - it could be kinda like da Emo movement.

As far as I'm concerned, DDC has the most votes so GO FOR THAT ONE
I may not make a d-mod for this contest, but I have a good storyline in mind for it if anyone is interested.
(first request gets to hear the plot I have in mind. If they don't like it, they dont have to use it but I won't be telling anyone else what this storyline is)

I'd probably participate in a mouse-controlled D-Mod contest...
It's been a while since the Alternative Hero d-mod contest... that led to the creation of Lyna's Story and Cycles of Evil, two of the best d-mods ever released.
Perhaps something along those lines?
Alternatively, how about a contest based around something simple enough to attract more entries? A "Mysterious Island" contest would leave a lot of scope for creativity, yet with a specific and overriding theme. Particularly if there was a restriction on the island's size.
