I wondered if the DN was also influenced by the huge buzz around poker and especially poker online.. (this may be hindered by Americans being forbidden to play poker on foreign sites). At least in Finland it's become increasingly more popular. What's funky about it is that the national gambling games monopoly Veikkaus is trying to argue that poker is not a skill game but a game of chance and should therefore be played only in Veikkaus connections.

I don't play much myself, or more like, I don't play for money and not very many versions of poker either (but dating someone who likes the game has got me to learn Texas Hold'em). But I read this lovely comic. You?

I think we visited a Holland Casino place in 'Dam last summer There was a poker tournament going on (so no one else could play) and everything else seemed super expensive. We grabbed some drinks, lost 5€ in a roulette table, and left.. rather disappointing.

Admit it's just because you suck at it.

I think gambling's fabulous in general. Not just poker. You can lose a hell of a lot of money.

LOOL!Poke(r)mon are really fabulous like "The Bold and the Beauty"

Ah, well, it's true it's not that smart to gamble your entire wealth in a game where the deciding factor is luck, but I enjoy playing poker with a bunch of friends, for small amounts of money or drinks or whatever else that doesn't turn the game DEAD SERIOUS.

I don't like many of the variants of the game though, or the WPT tournaments where the people play with imaginary money for a fixed pot. Tried internet poker once, but it was definitely not for me, with all the fun things in poker missing- The whole atmosphere of a live game and the social aspect of playing it with friends, not even mentioning the unfunniness of trying to bluff without seeing the other players.

Still, I don't dislike the game itself or all it's variants, indian poker is particularly awesome.

They are incomparable. Any thoughts on it being "fabulous" is mere opinion. I personally think the earlier games were great and well-constructed.
