Count me in... wel kinda

I don't like black and death metal, like Cradle of Filth... those guys suck ass...

I'm a big fan of Metallica though, but they ain't black or death, just classic heavy metal.

This are the 20 best bands of all time imho, while first 4 being the 4 best in order, the rest in random order

Metallica, Dream Theater, Tool, Nirvana, Joe Satriani, Guns n' Roses, Pearl Jam, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Queen, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Nuno Bettencourt, Deep Purple, Radiohead, Pantera, Puddle of Mudd, Jimi Hendrix, Ozzy Osbourne, System of a Down, Godsmack

so you see I like 'easy-listening' music too, like Radiohead and Hendrix

I just love music, music is my life. I'll start a band within a few years, and, ofcourse, gonna be famous. Earthbound... remember the name

Somehow I can't agree with you

Metallica is the absolute no. 1 and Dream Theater has everything what you can imagine. Tool is technically perfect and has awesome lyrics and great 'overlapping' layers. They rule/rock/etc

Undoubtedly the greatest band ever is Queen!

Ans if God does exist, so does Satan. And I think Satan is real : Where else did David Blaine learn all that magic stuff?

Seth and Akiko = John and Yoko?

Anyways, since music and art are my things, I couldn't help posting. In my opinion, The Beatles beats any band that ever existed, proportionally. And still they are the greatest wonder that modern music has ever known. Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Santana. Wow. Just plain wow. Especially Hendrix. He's the most incredible guitarist I've ever listened to. Hm. Let's see. Sublime is a wonderful band. Tool, beyond awesome, is modern day Beatles, with their riveting music, and most original style, combined with some of the deepest words any song has ever had. Metallica. Awesome. Queen is one of the greatest bands ever, along with Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd. The Clash, Sex Pistols, Dead Kennedy's. Some of the greatest punk bands ever. The Frogs are brilliant, if unheard of. And of course I cannot forget Black Sabbath, Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains(Dear God this band owns), and of course, Nirvana. I could spend hours ranting on AiC and Nirvana, but I will spare you, if still possible. Just look up the definition of Nirvana, which should suffice. Yeah, I like far more bands than that, that's what comes to my mind immedietly. I liked this thread.

Sincerely,

those bands are so.... automatic. of course people say the beatles are the greatest band of all time, because they have no individual sense of good music. nirvana? how many times have you heard that? bob marley? sex pistols? metallica? these bands are just the corporate giants of their genres. people jump on the band wagon and dont get to sense the real diversity and technique of music. you listen to metal right? metallica fan? oh yeh punk rock, i like the sex pistols! not that these bands arent good, its just not apparent that you have any sort of genuine attachment to these bands when everyone who has ever heard of the concept of music picks these bands to be the best ones. whatever is on the radio seems to be the most talented bands out there. it is social proximity that creates this fact, and its lame. not that you cant like these bands, i just think you should listen to a little more bands and form a little more personal list of great bands,

mine:

greatest band of all time- dead milkmen

amebix

crass

angry samoans

hot water music

nausea

nirvana

metallica

backstreet boys

pink floyd

Oh my god, you said something smart (Not meaning to be rude or anything, it's just.. you know

I only listen hiphop and what's on the radio&tv is not the best out there nor doesn't it represent *real* hiphop. I'm talking about fake-ass-gangsters and others such as Nelly, DMX & crew, Dr Dre & everyone who got there thanks to him, etc... And lots of people who say they love hiphop and only listen hiphop (& r&b ofcourse) usually can only come up with these names. I'm not saying neither that these artist are bad, I listen to all of them myself and enjoy it for what it's worth.

But you don't know what hiphop is until you've sampled work from artists like:

KRS-ONE (The teacher!)

Arrested Development

Wyclef Jean

Gangstar (Guru)

NWA (fake, but classic)

Jurassic 5 (new old-skool)

Rakim

Early Ice Cube, Nas, Ice T & Wu-Tang Clan is good too

True, bands like Queen are the ones that are thoguth of straight away, but some with good reason. Queen have their own spectacular style nobody else has ever reproduced, which makes them worthy of their fame.

But anyway, each to their own I say!

Velvet Underground rocked, Lou Reed was never quite the same alone. Pixies were good, add in the Smiths, Mothers of Invention, and early Bowie. Also, for other old stuff, I think the Doors were pretty dang good, and The Who's Quadrophinia (sp) was and still is great as is Ozzy in the Blizard of Oz days (Randy Rhodes was a wizard with the guitar). I could go on and on, including newer worthy alternative...but why?

My music preferences...

Beastie Boys, Ben Folds Five, Our Lady Peace (thank you, SuperWolfman, for you are the king of good sh** who introduced me to them), some of Beck, Counting Crows, REM(!!!), Frank Sinatra (Specifically "Fly Me to The Moon"... hee.), Gorillaz, Semisonic, Puddle of Mudd, System of a Down, and a bunch more I can't think of at the moment.

actually, i was mostly just making a joke with the whole backstreet boys... elvis... thing. but anyway...

i have a KRS-ONE type in my room, amongst a couple hundred other types i bought but have no listened to. maybe i will check it out.

(in case you are wondering why i have types i do not listen to: i bought them on ebay or something mixed with a bunch of types for bands that i like. a lot of them suck so i dont listen to them, or i just dont have the patience (hip hop/techno/new wave). i also have about 150/300 vinyl records to listen to from my parents. those all suck too.)

unfortunatley, i listen to butthole surfers and black flag every now and then. black flag has to be the most obnoxious and untalented band to date (besides the misfits and jethro tull). and that rollins guy is a total freak. whats the deal with them?
