Re: CD-ROM Movies and stuff?
Now that Dink has been freewared and open-sourced, I think the original Dink audio tracks and into movie should be released, too. Like in a bonus.
Who has an original Dink CD-ROM and can rip the music and old intro stuff off it? I'm very curious about it.

Isn't the music the same as in the downloadable version? And the intro movie is downloadable already, what else do you want?
Hm, I thought I heard about there were CD audio tracks in the CD version, that were replaced by MIDIs in the freeware version...
About the movie, I didn't know! Thanks.

Sure, Why not?
(if you've got an ADSL connection that is)

Trial of WHAT?
The movie was tastey, but completely different than the game. A real 'teaser'!
So the original music were the MIDIs or not?

A trial of Toolfish Utility Suite, a very tasty software pastry.
There is indeed music exclusively on the Dink CD that is in a spiffy format other than Midi (.wav maybe, I'm unsure). If you happen to have it, you can put it in your CD-ROM drive while you play Dink and you can listen to this snazzy music. If not, midis are played.
Someone who actually owns one of the versions of the Dink CD could probably explain it a bit better than I can... I know there were licensing problems over some of that music, but I can't recall the specifics.

Yup, I have the CD and that's pretty much exactly how it works. It's also nice to have around as it has source files and a few other ranodm goodies.
I have Dink Smallwood v 1.04, when you lunch the game will a RTSoft video start play before you can start the game, its not wicked or anything, but I was suprised when I saw it lol.
Yeah, I remember that one from the demos, it's abscent in v1.05

So then, anyone bother ripping/uploading the original music then?

Hi DaVince !
Hmm,very interesting topic you started here...
I actually have one copy of the Dink SmallWood CD.I'm not sure, which CD burn it is, but in main Dink SmallWood folder, in the cd.dat file(opened by the notepad) I read, that it is ,,CD burn revision 2".I really would like to upload the Cd audio tracks, but I don't now how to rip them off the CD.When I opened the CD, I haven't found this tracks on it, nor when I installed Dink.So maybe they are somehow protected from ripping off the CD ?
ps.Could someone of you guys explain this to me ? I will be very, very thankful for that
Edit:I saw few hours ago (in ,,quotes" file in the main Dink directory) a text written by Seth Robinson saying that ,,If they rip off the CD, they won't get the intro, Cd audio or the naked pictures of me
" (or sth like that).
Is this means ripping intro or audio is impossible, whatever you'll do ?
I'm really confused now
ps.2.So, if someone of you now anything about this, please reply (it's really important for me to now this

Not to a thread this old. Sorry. You should post a new topic. (for future refrence)
He meant to his previous question (the previously last post in the thread, I guess), and AFAIK, there's nothing wrong with bumping a thread with your own unanswered question, even if you've been away for a month (it happens).
I still have the second-earliest version of the CD, that I bought shortly after the demo appeared in PC Gamer. It has two other avis in addition to the intro: the RTSoft logo and the Iridon logo. It doesn't have the CD audio tracks in an easy-to-seperate format; other than running the game and recording directly from your audio output, I don't know how one would rip them.
We have a few necromancers here...
A few WHAT?! Oh necromancers I thought you said necropheliacs hahaha silly me!

Necromancers. Thread revivers. At one point, I necromanced a few threads. I was a noob then.

Hey,that's not such a bad idea.
I never thought about making it that way, so maybe I should give it a try (maybe it will work).

Didn't see your post before. There are really PLENTY CD rippers out there, for example Foobar2000 can do the job pretty well.
Ok, thanks for the link Da Vince.
I'll try to rip it tommorrow, because it's 10:07 PM where I live, and besides I'm really tired already.

Ok, I manage today to spare some time and ripped the Dink SmallWood CD music at last (I was really busy at the weekend).
The rip was easy (I used footbar 2000), but this tracks are pretty big.I tried making the ISO image (186 MB), zip archive (221 MB), the rar archive (the same as zip, maybe a little smaller). The wav format is unfortunately really big, but when I change it to mp3, I tooks only 17 MB.So, how is your opinion DaVince (and others) ?
Should I upload the music in mp3, or live it in wav ?
I heard about loosing the quality, so I'm asking.

I don't like the angry, red emoticon, it makes me wanna cry

Wav isn't good for uploading music on the internet. MP3 them and they should be fine.
When converting to mp3, the following quality is good:
Bitrate: 128kb
Frequency: 44100 Hz
Sample rating: 16 bit
That gives relatively small file sizes and good quality sound.
Zip the result, that's used most commonly.
Thanks for taking the effort of ripping the music, btw.

Thanks REDIIIX!Could you send me the iso? i know it is big but here is a good host: File Lodge
Don't. Just make mp3's out of the songs. Small effort, big filesize difference.
Bit more patience, kth6.

Crap, I have a problem.
I'm trying to upload the file, but no use.Is there any alternative way, because the ,,upload" section don't work for me ?

Temp host RapidShare. I might upload it to my own, pretty reliable host if the file isn't too big. Or maybe Redink1 would be so kind as to upload it for you.
