Valorim
I have been working on a D-Mod. Right now, I have almost done the first screen... sad.
I've done a plenty of screens now. I'm progressing! Been trying to add a new sound file.
Had troubles with the depth dot.
Had troubles with the hardness.
Going well. I should propably do the basic tiling, spriting and scripting first.

Averum III is exactly where I took the Valorim name from. Perhaps I should put some slithzerikai in it...
Sure.
Beware though, I think the slith are copyrighted.
(Ironically, I recently registered at the Spiderweb forums as 'The Lurker'... the Spiderweb boards are even more nonsensical than the DN boards
).

Oh there are many D-Mods with quotes, so I think I won't be sued too much. Seth created a D-Mod about Milli Vanilli, and SimonK quoted it in Stone of Balance.
Here comes ol' Ducklord, the All-Knowing Fellow of All-Knowingness Who Seems to Know It All and Has Something to Suggest in All Cases.
And here comes ol' Talmadge, the Always Knowing How to Critisize Fellow Members of the Board and Continuing Mildly Insulting Them Which is Starting to Annoy Me Quite a Bit.
That's "criticize" to you.
I wasn't really intending to insult Ducklord and apologize if it seems that way (however, my intents for others may have been slightly different, insert more sly winkage here
). I've just noticed him doing a lot of... "policing" around here lately. "Policing" isn't really the word I'm looking for at all and may not even be a word at all - I'm tired - but it's the first one I can think of offhand that starts to explain it. Back to my point, though.. don't get me wrong, help and suggestions are good, and Ducklord does this in a manner which I approve of instead of being an arse about it. I've simply noticed him doing it often and making himself a bit prominent through it.
As for your mild insult of the day, Christiaan, you smell like dog pee.

Tal, you are hilarious. You are also ridiculous and callous.
Hey, sorry for misinterpreting your post, then. It must've been the dog pee gone to my head.
It's ok, I'm probably due a good criticizing myself now and then.
Just in case Mr. Templar doesn't grasp my irony...
I have indeed been posting a bit more recently. I'm just trying to help people and make myself useful. But 'prominent'? I don't triple post all that much, you know.
EDIT : Writing in italics looks less aggressive than writing in bold.

I'm not sure what you're getting at with "triple posting;" I don't think I've complained at all about you posting three times in a row. Which would be interesting. If by that you actually mean posting multiple times in one board-browsing session, I think I understand. And by 'prominent' I simply meant that you stick out, at least to me. That's not necessarily a bad thing. Do I have a habit of making remarks about people who make themselves noticed? Yep, and they generally are silly or sarcastic, but they aren't (always) meant to put anyone down or hurt their feelings.
And no, I don't quite grasp your irony. That isn't one of my strongest abilities, granted.

What I meant to say is that triple-posting would in my opinion make myself more prominent than posting often.
I simply meant that you stick out
If you are not mistaken, this would mean that the people on this board should react a bit more quickly and *prominently*.
but they aren't (always) meant to put anyone down or hurt their feelings
Alrighty then, argument settled.

Sooo... the first screen would have been already done if I knew how to fix the 2 problems that prevent it.
As I said in the screenlock problem thread, you could send your D-Mod to me. I'm likely to be able to fix it, as is the case with most Dinkers, I think.

As you wish... Hopefully I can, since I have never actually sent E-Mail myself. Believe me.
Well, all you have to do is to zip it or Dfarc it and then attach the file to your e-mail. It should work.
The problem has been officially fixed!
It was due to the fact that the start-1 file was a txt file instead of a c file.

As a C-File? In the Dink Folder, they are D- Files. And I don't know how to convert them.
See my PM. You have to use compile.exe or WinDinkedit from the develop folder to turn C files into D files, by the way. However, this won't help you with your current problem.
Still not working... I sent you an E-Mail for you to try again.
E-mail sent. You still need to change your files' extensions. Start-1 is now 'start-1.c.c' instead of 'start-1.c'. The game does not like that.
Oookaaayyy... What is it that does not work? Are you sure you were able to change your files' extensions?
(My apologies about the ironic comment posted earlier, Tal. I posted 30 posts today. I guess you were kind of right about me sticking out recently...)
Text stolen from the DinkC reference:
Scripts must have the '.c' extension. However, newer versions of Windows hide extensions by default, so if you save a script in Notepad as 'blah.c' it really saves it as 'blah.c.txt'.
To force Notepad to save a script as a '.c' file:
Put the save-as filename in double-quotes: "blah.c".
To force Windows to display all file extensions:
Open My Computer.
Enter the 'Tools' menu.
Select 'Folder Options'.
Select the 'View' tab.
Uncheck the 'Hide extensions for known file types' checkbox.
I think that's your problem.

I live in Finland, so my computer has a different language. That means I can't find anything related to Tools menu.
When I first saw Tal's name(Talmadge Bradley III), I wondered why it looked so familiar to me. After reading this post, I remembered:
Some years ago, there was a series about a guy that travels back in time 7 days in a sphere, and changes the past...(I still can't remember the name of the series). Talmadge Bradley III was one of the technicians.

You have got to be smoking some incredible herbs.
No, I remember correctly. The first episode was about the main character Frank B. Parker, that was recruted to travel back in time with seven days, and save the president, who has been killed. And I'm sure one of the technichians was called Talmadge Bradley III.
Tal, just wondering... Why are you called 'Talmadge Bradley III'? What is the 'III' for?

Usually a person has III after his name when his father and his grandfather had the same name (like Junior).
Ah.. after digging up a bit more info, that technician is actually a Bradley Talmadge (first/last name). That's still cool, though.
YIPPEEEEEEEEE now it's working!! Now I'll start the REAL development!
Oh, and thanks.

This is a question sooooo very tiny and almost worthless so I didn't create its own topic for it, but what is Dink's Depth Que?
Equal to Dink's current y coördinate. (Or do you mean how many pixels from the bottom?)
I mean the depth dot every sprite has (usually around 100- 400 in my case). If you didn't mean it. But could any kind of an author, even a newbie one please tell me?
The depth dot is explained in depth by Simon Klaebe in the DinkC Reference v4.0, which is included in the release candidates of Dink Smallwood 1.08.
Ok... but, does the depth dot depend on something or is it always the same? If yes, someone could really just tell it in one single post... but it looks like it varies.
The DinkC Reference v4.0 (in Techniques - Depth Dots and Hardboxes) explains everything. Please read it.
In short, the depth dot is defined in the dink.ini file, and yes, it does 'vary' (it will always remain the same for the same frame of animation, but different sequences have different depth dots).
