Yikes...although it was designed as a joke product that IS NOT being produced the idea is scary. As an anti-rape device it would be effective though.

Looking at websites on female defense, eh Vaulty? Got something planned?
EDIT : Just so certain people know, I hadn't looked at the web-site before I posted. I thought the "anti-rape device" thing was a joke by Vaultdweller.
I hadn't seen what the "product" was, and didn't know it ACTUALLY was about... that.
Erk...

It is estimated that 8 out of 10 women have either been sexually molested (completed act in one fashion or the other) or have been sexually assaulted/traumatized by a male
I'm sorry, but that's a load of crap. I don't believe it's true, and it's all down to interpretation. Sexually traumatized? What the hell? Some would interpret that as somebody making a lude comment. Of course, this does not apply to all cases - I just feel those statistics completely over exaggerate the problem.
And sorry if I offended you desertgrl. Doesn't mean I agree with you, but I'm sorry I said something that obviously upsets you.
But it is an issue close to my heart for very special reasons.
It wouldn't surprise me if a few people had reasons to be sensitive about this - Some people just have to laugh about these things. It can help them cope/forget/whatever.

Sabre: I halfway believe it... In my health class (which I don't trust) they said that some similar percentage (80ish) of women in college had been victims of date-rape.
You probably have good self-control when drunk, but not everyone does...

Oh, c'mon! 80% of college girls have been date raped? Pffft.
I'm sorry, but these "statistics" are just ridiculous in my opinion.
I'm sorry, but these "statistics" are just ridiculous in my opinion.
I have actually met a lot of girls that have either been raped or almost raped, and some of them have been some very unlikely suspects...
But 80% still sounds pretty hokey to me.

Yeah,I was date-raped when I was younger too.
It's more common than we woman usually say.
It's more common than we woman usually say.
Yeah, I shouldn't trust my health class, gym teachers lie for sport
. 80% was a pretty ridiculous number for that college rape stat they "cited." And, for dg's stat, there is, to my mind, a big difference between "indecent public masturbation" and rape. One is a compliment (I kid). Seriously though, I can't tell you how many times I've seen guys at school playing "pocket pool."
I'd be paranoid about daterape if I was a girl, but females tend to have a lot of courage about such things... I guess you have to.

You know, this thread started with the mention of a joke product that, although tasteless, was only a joke.Sabre's comment made me laugh as I was not
taking any of it seriously.It is only desertgrl who had taken the opportunity to turn this thread into her own personal forum on womens issues.
And a game site is not the appropiate place.
I mentioned my own personal experience only to make a point that many women never say anything about being dateraped but that doesn't mean it isn't happening.(hence 80% didn't surprise me)
Still,this is a gaming forum,so can we at least stick to talking about fun things.
If you have so much to say desertgrl about non-related game issues or other serious topics then why don't you go get yourself a journal.
EDIT:
It's the people(like you desertgrl)who treat
date-rape victims like their broken and pitiful that undermine the very strength that helps them move on.

Shouldn't the guy be smart enough to just pull the spike out? Or am I missing the point? I'm not too familiar with all these feminine hygenic products.
I'm thinking the guys in for a nastly little surprise before he knows it.*owch*
Answer:
sexual assault other than rape (e.g., sexual battery);
use of verbal coercion to obtain sexual intercourse;
indecent exposure;
Peeping Toms;
obscene phone calls;
sexual harassment;
stalking-intent to rape or physical violence;
forcible masturbation under threat of force;
Indecent public masturbation;
Forcible Fondling;
And more.
That's sooo obscure. So basically if you say fudge you to a girl or even give her a weird look (intent to rape, lol) she's sexually traumatized. Give me a break.
*Nearly one-third of American women (31 percent) report being physically or sexually abused by a husband or boyfriend at some point in their lives.
*One out of every five U.S. women has been physically assaulted by an intimate partner. One out of every 14 U.S. men has been physically assaulted by an intimate partner.
So the guy walks the streets and asks people if they have been physically assaulted by an intimate partner. A woman thinks of her ex and remembers he slapped her once, and answers yes. Those statistics are rubbish, and 80% of women having been raped definitely is. There's no clear line on what's considered sexual abuse and that makes the statistics completely inaccurate.
There is a problem, but it's really not as big as you're saying. My friend was forced to oral sex once, and a few have been hit. Most have definitely received prank calls. Many have been called a whore or a she dog etc. but they didn't receive emotional trauma for life of it.

I would say don't go. Stay. You're a nice memer of the community. But to be honest, YOU are the one with your head up your ass.
When "certain" men can take the issue seriously without scoffing, scorning, and belittlement, or when women have enough power to push through more and stricter legislation, then will the problem have less scope and horrific impact on the women in our lives.
I'm going to assume, I'm one of these "certain men". Have you considered the tiny possibility that you are in no freakin' position to talk about abuse of any kind? You admit yourself it's never happened to you... so what right do you have to lecture me for "scoffing", when I probably know more about it than you.
And get off Carrie's back. One second you're saying how she can talk to you (sue to obvoius emotional distress)... the next you're calling her a tramp and an idiot.
Your edit shows that you have never resolved your issues with the incident you talked about. You're tacky writings show a disturbed individual. You are striking out at the wrong person. Ah well.
You don't know what you're talking about. As you've never experienced it, you should shut the hell up and keep out of the matter. You say Carrie has issues, but it seems you do!
Carrie's edit shows she knows more on the matter than you probably ever will.
So yeah, don't come back. Unless you grow up first.

Scratcher, think what you want regardless of the studies done. The information is there to read.
"it's really not as big as you're saying"
I'm not the one saying this. Those are quotes from the studies with the sites provided.
Believe as you will. I could tell you why I believe it but it is personal information.
You are trying to minimize and belittle the seriousness of the problem by mocking it and deliberately misunderstanding. Not one woman I know believes that every man on earth is a probable attacker (well maybe a couple do).
I don't. Many women depend and trust on another male family member or friend to help her through the most awful time of her life.
Don't take the statistics personally. If your girl buddies feel secure in relating personal information to you then there's real doubt that you will ever harm a woman. Yippee ki yay.

I'm not taking the statistics personally, I'm saying that they aren't right.
A person has to experience abuse in order to know about it?
No, but you have to have experienced it to understand what it's like. And you if you say you haven't, then I'm going to take that as true. If it's none of my business, don't mention it.
And Carrie "maliciously" attacked you? Please... did you read her post?
I certainly didn't accuse you of lying; you're clutching at straws to dismiss my argument. I'm saying those statistics are a load of crap. That's not saying you're lying - Just that you are wrong/misinformed.
And maybe calling you "pathetic" was childish. Well, actually... it definately was. So I apologise for that.
But if you think some guy showing your friend his ass (as horrible as that must have been) is a terrible tale... you need to get out more. Whilst not inconsequential, I think anybody who has suffered actual abuse is going to scoff at that.
Yeah?

Yeah?
I was watching a COPS type show and they eluded to some of these rape defences...
The scareiest was the somehow when the guy rapes her a needle ful of like knock out gas or something is injected into... ow
There are also some bras that have one of those senoir citizen alarms, you know the ones that alert medical personel if they fall or something, except its in their bra so if they are being raped they can call the... i guess rape police

Isn't that the same as the normal police?

This thread is almost getting as bad as the guinea pig thread.
Quinea pigs?
we have one...

"Tal, the 80% includes women worldwide."
When I said it was "hokey," I was referring to the statistic claiming 80% of college girls had been raped (or similar, I just looked at it maybe 10 seconds ago but can't even recite it word for word). If that is indeed what you're referring to, sorry for the confusion. And if by chance that statistic is true, well I'll be danged.
I may post a more in-depth reply upon returning home later this afternoon.

desertgirl->Carrie: There are sites out there for your type of slutty posts. You write like a tramp. You giggle, simper, and make come-on's to the guys. You talk as if you can't wait to bed all the males here. You're not a bright person by any means.
When did she ever write "slutty posts" and what are those, anyway? I wonder why it doesn't disturb you when the guys make some jokes, but if one of the girls ever uses the winking smiley or something..
I suppose you were pretty mad when you were writing that, and that's why it turned out a bit unnecessarily harsh. I see where you're coming from, but you do have a few contradictions here and there (pointed out by others than me, so no need to go back to that). You'd make a more convincing argument with less personal passion shown about the subject.

Upon reflection, Carrie, I've realized that you're (mostly) right, so I'll not post any more on this thread.
It's decidely unmanly of me to say this, but life sucks; sometimes you just have to learn to laugh about it.

Well, if you got something like that in your arm... ouch. You probably wouldn't use it because it hurts a lot.
EDIT: Okay, I take my post back, for they don't use Tampons like that.

Anyway, isn't the string still out when the tampon is in there? Surely even a rapist is smart enough to pull the tampon out before starting. wearing something like that would hurt the girl though... they should just use good ole old fashioned chastity belts, I heard they sell those in sex shops nowadays.

Desertgrl, you're so far out of line that you're in the realm of alternate fudgeing dimensions.
