Killed a whole lot of people... 50,000 was the last estimate I heard...

I don't have anything to say about it, but y'know, it's worth a thread.

I'm a man, but I can change, if I have to.I guess.
I hope it doesn't get any worse, but it is sort of obvious that it will... I hope I am wrong, but, as it looks now, I think we are looking at over a quarter million dead with the disease and starvation yet to come.

And people try to make money of things like this (private world help fund crap)... It sickens me.

I last heard 52,000.But it's not the numbers that disturb me the most. It's the faces of the ones left behind,it's the bodies being dumped in mass graves to be burned,it's the devastation of the land.I just don't understand with all that we are capable of in this day and age...why couldn't we have saved more?

It said on the news that some divers were oblivious to the waves, I wonder how that is...I mean wouldnt the waves suck water from the ocean and chop it up quite a bit??? or maybe they were deep sea diving? If that works, it seems to me the best bet would be to make a kinda bomb shelter but make it far underwater, so this wouldnt happen again

Things just dont happen out of the blue. I mean someone knew something before these 54,000 somethin people died... Whether or not they acted on it, i dont know. But how do you move 54,000+ people in the time before the wave forms and crashes on its unexspecting victims.

Things do just happen out of the blue. Someone surely didn't conjure up this storm (at least, no one in my coven did). And sure, someone knew something, but how fast they could've done something seconds before death is another question. It's like the Saddam Hussein issue. How long did it take the United States to do something to prevent thousands of people from being killed. Now, noting how George Bush is president, how long did it take the United States to do something when oil was involved. And lastly, how long did it take France to do something? About anything?

But the planet is still too populated.

If by "preventing the death of thousands" you mean nine eleven, then Saddam had little if nothing to do with that. Or if you just mean him killing his own people, everyone got mad when the US interfered with Iraq, but now your sayin we should have done something years ago? And yes when oil is involved, we acted faster, is protecting your own interests a crime? and France...well i dont know much about France so I cant say much.

Anyway politics aside, nothing happens out of the blue, every action has an equal and/or opposite reaction, when means everything happens because something else happened....Earthquake makes waves which ive heard messes with the earth's gravitational pull which will kill us all...

Tectonic plates push into each other, creating tremors, which cause the ground to shake and break apart. What causes that? Excess heat stored up in the core of the earth... What causes heat to gather in the earth?? The sun sends heat to the earth in the form of UV rays....do I really have to go through the whole process?? The earthquake was spotted something like an hour before the gicantic waves hit the first islands on their route, so it would have been possible to at least warn the people. However, most of those Asian countries that suffered from the tsunami do not have the equipment to give out such messages, because they're so expensive.

That'd be from our newspaper. Makes you wonder, don't most of the people in Thailand still have TVs or radios? It can't be that expensive to stop the local MTV for a few seconds to peep in, "There's a tsunami on the way!", can it? It might have saved some of the lives, but not all. The hour would've scarcely been enough for escaping the immediate beach areas, but evacuation or building walls or so - no way.

My friend is on holiday in India... the other side of it (in Goa to be exact.) I checked on her a few days ago, and she was fine of course. She said they hadn't heard anything about the tsunami before some of their relatives had contacted them from Finland.. just that the wind had shifted direction during the night, which was when the tsunami had hit the coast (at least according to her).

They seem to do so well in information sharing in there...

Well we ought to have some kind of world wide alarm system when it comes to things like this.
And a rescue plan too.We shouldn't just stand by and do nothing just because it's not our country.
I thought by now we'd have the federation of planets...we don't even have a federation of earth yet.

EDIT: Still, sometimes there isn't enough time to do anything anyways.

What made the sun, then?

I know your argument is that something must come from something, sure, but mine is that that first thing had to just be there and wasn't created from something else (it was created out of the blue). I'm just saying you need to accept the things you can't change (like this tsunami).

I was sitting contemplating many years ago,and realized that if we traced
back each thing that was created from where it originated from,we would eventually
have to arrive at the start. The first molecule or atom. The first speck of life.God,perhaps.
But how could it just 'be'.Everything must come from something?Right?
Or perhaps,I thought,it was not so.Maybe our existence defies the logic of our
human brains. We do,after all, only use a small percentage of our brains so far.
So 'something' never came from something else,it just 'was'.It exists.
We will always wish we could have averted a tragedy even when we
know there was no way we could have.Fate?I suppose it is.Why?
I don't know yet.But that doesn't mean there isn't a reason,and a very good one at that.
Accept it? Eventually we all must.

P.S. If gases were what led to the sun, where did the gases come from,Vortex?

You beleive what you beleive and I to myself, but as you said we are only using a small percentage of our brain, so none of us really know what, if it be god, chance, or cause/effect. Will we ever really know, probably not but until we do... people can have their own beleifs.

Also....heck if I know where the gases come from. Although I know this news must destroy everything you hold dear, but I am not a genius....yet.

We put laws on our own free will?? why cant god? Ive read some of the bible, If he can reache down and revive Lazarus(not sure on the name) then why not people I care about.

Also if god made all the earth and all the other stuff then he made the serpant which began the "cycle of sin" in the garden of eden

He gives free will but then kills the people of cities he considers "evil"

These are just a few instants. Now dont get me wrong, I am not trying to attack others religons "to each his own" i am stateing my opinion and beleifs. Just to be sure i am saying all this out of pure conversation and in no way trying to put anyone down.

After we die? I am talking about here and now. Plus other than the bible ( which was edited many times, truth huh?) there is no proof of sucha trial or a afterlife of any kind. Yes i know what you are going to say "faith" but a gut feeling is not good enough.

When dealing in matters of faith, i think of the old movies where the bomb is ticking and danny glover has to cut a wire, but which, the red or the blue, which is right? no one knows until you cut the wire.

Its the same in real life, no one really knows until they die of gaunaria one day and poof their either sitting at pearly gates, or...their still lifeless on the floor...

I would like to think there is a afterlife, its a nice thought. Makes you feel better that this isnt the end, but with my weirdo logic it all just doesnt add up.

dont get me wrong, this was a major event, being a month old or whatever doesnt mean its old news, this will be news for generations or who knows, a hundred years. many parts of the world may even take that long to recover. something like this doesnt happen very often, but i guess my point was not to get over the tsunami because it wasnt a big deal, as lame as it is to hear about something over and over that barely effects our little corners of the world, the point was to get over death being a big deal. our lives revolve around staying alive, and sometimes people get the mentality that if somebody dies, its SO BAD and a TRAGEDY well, no, not really. its like we think we can cheat it, and we have to do this and that and we will prevent death. if you stop and think about it, its all just rather silly. take it when it comes.
