It took me about a half hour to compile this list, many of which are only loosely punk, but they are all excellent and at least closely related to punk. Don't be surprised if your favorite(s) is left out.

1. Bad Brains - Bad Brains
2. Dead Kennedys - Plastic Surgery Disasters
3. Wire - Pink Flag
4. Fugazi - Repeater
5. Gang of Four - Entertainment
6. Minor Threat - Complete Discography
7. Wipers - Youth of America
8. The Ramones - The Ramones
9. Black Flag - Damaged
10. Bad Brains - Rock for Light
11. Dead Kennedys - Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables
12. Meat Puppets - II
13. NoMeansNo - Worldhood of the World (As Such)
14. Drive Like Jehu - Drive Like Jehu
15. Minutemen - Buzz or Howl Under the Influence of Heat
16. Bad Religion - Against the Grain
17. The Clash - The Clash
18. Operation Ivy - Energy
19. [SUB][HUM][ANS] - The Day the Country Died
20. Turbonegro - Ass Cobra

- Note: I took off "Nomeansno - Wrong" and
"Ramones - Leave Home" to replace them with "Meat Puppets - II" and "Operation Ivy - Energy". Hey, we're not all perfect.

HAHAHAHA KAT, 80% of good music in existence today is somehow related to punk rock. have you been in a freakin record store any time in the last 2 decades?

"punk is dead" that phrase was made by punks who didnt like how it was being commercialized, saying it wasnt true "punk" like not l337 anymore, it doesnt mean punk rock is not a huge part of music as we know it. get your act together, geeeeeeez.

Hey hey, two people slandering the art form I like to call hiphop?

What you see on TV and what you hear on the radio, that is not hiphop. It's not even close. It's pop music, hippop, whatever you would like to call it. Real hiphop is not about guns/cash/women, it's about real life issues and all that stuff where you can actually learn something from.

So, let's recap:
NOT hiphop: 50 cent, eminem, camron, chingy, ja rule, g-unit, j-kwon, (insert whatever is playing on your local tv right now)

REAL hiphop: Blackalicious, J-Live, Lifesavas, KRS-One, Beasty Boys, Immortal Technique, Looptroop, Promoe, Chords, Dilated Peoples, Gift of Gab, Aceyalone, Talib Kweli, Mos Def, Tonedeff, Pack Fm, Substantial, Swollen Members, Jurassic 5, Starflam, etc...

Now get it straight, aight?

Real hiphop is not about guns/cash/women, it's about real life issues and all that stuff where you can actually learn something from.

See, I'm not into words... I'm all about the sound. Lyrics just don't mean much to me. And most of the things that supposedly fall under hiphop are all about words.

So, until I actually hear more stuff that's actually decent... I'm going to remain skeptical.

Hmm... What, Oh Esteemed Kat, constitutes "good old rock"? Do you mean, like, crap from the fifties (i.e. Elvis), or good music from the late 60s- 70s- 80s (i.e. "Back in Black")? I have nothing against the latter except its kind of same-ish to my ear.

And to call the (Edit: allegedly good) groups Dukie listed pop would be bizzare, considering that only one or two are well known.

P.S. I hope you won't call the Beach Boys or some other ear-raping group "good old rock"...

Trash Talk
Oh, yeah!
dang, this is smooth.
Yo, a lot of people been askin' what the Hawkman's all about, this one's for you.

"E" stands for energy, yo that's me,
I'm a brilliant scientist and a dope MC.
Before you step to me I'd think twice G,
I'm the Lord of Chaos, King of Entropy.
You down with it? I motherfudgein' hope so,
'cause if you're not, I got a motherfudgein' rope yo!
I'll string you up, from a big-ass tree,
with a sign round your neck that says, "Wack MC".
There ain't another motherfudgeer hard like me,
I'm a universal constant, I'm a singularity.
Got Doomsday at my back with fat-ass tracks,
he pumps funk in the cracks and cuts wax with an axe.
So listen up she dog, 'cause there may be a test,
my style is smooth, but it's hard to digest.
My science is tight, rhymes faster than light,
like a ton of TNT I'm about to ignite.

Chorus
E=mc,
E=mc Kory! 3x

I explode like a bomb, no one is spared,
my power is my mass times the speed of light squared.
Hoes on my tip, 15 bullets in my clip,
my hand rests heavy on my pistol grip.
Doomsday cuts it up like a Shaolin monk,
pumping the funk in your junk-trunk punk.
There's no escaping here, I'm gonna beat you out of shape,
like a fudgeing black hole even light can't escape.
Got the mind to bust a rhyme to make your brain bleed,
other rappers talk shoot, but they gotta concede,
that I'm a 3 sandwich eatin', super-model meetin',
step to me punk and you're gonna get a beatin'.
So listen up she dog, 'cause there may be a test,
my style is smooth, but it's hard to digest.
My science is tight, rhymes faster than light,
like a ton of TNT I'm about to ignite.

Chorus

Break down!
Ah yeah, that's right, E=mc Hawking motherfudgeers!

How nice of you to add you 1 cent in there MiloBones. I was a teenager in the 70's, yes I do miss the cunning words that musicians used to describe drugs (60's and 70's) and was happy to listen to those singers rock on in the 80's and 90's with their Freedom of Lyrics. Maybe you should clean out your ears more often? (Beach Boys were more Pop Rock). I do enjoy listening to: Nickleback,Counting Crows, Linkiin Park and Black Eyed Pleas lately, yet I haven't forgotten about The Rolling Stones and Aerosmith. And why call Elvis crap?? Because he was the undisputed King of Rock and Roll? Maybe I just like music that says something. (unlike those Beastie Boys who say nothing) My record/CD collection goes way back, so imagine yourself without Computers or TV or Nintendo Games (etc.), you'll find that good music is good on your soul.

Whoa there are a dozen posts in just one day! What a heated topic!

The closest thing I can get to good instrumental is the rock from the 60's, 70's, and 80's. Great music and the lyrics are even good. Seems odd since I grew up in the 90's.

One of my favorite songs that represents how I feel well is "Keep on rockin' in the free world" by Neil Young.

Oh my dear Kat, what are you saying there?

First you say you don't like hiphop, but then you admit enjoying the Black Eyes Peas? But they are hiphop, so what gives?

But even worse, claiming that the Beastie Boys don't say anything? While their new cd 'Back to the 5 Boroughs' is getting slammed by (some) reviewers because of their highly political lyrics? It seems that they're saying too much. It's actually the Black Eyes Peas who don't say much. Admitted, "Where is the Love" is a positive song, but apart from that, they've taken a very commmercial route now. Songs like "Hey Mama" or "Let's get retarded" (or "Let's get it started" as the cleaned up version they sold to the NBA) are just fluffy pop music without any content at all. I sometimes listen to them too though, once in while.

So let's compare It takes time to build of the BB's latest album and ANY song from the Black Eyed Peas. Please, tell me then, who says nothing/

And finally, me being from Bulgaria?? I'm from Belgium! You go too far there

Kat everything you have written in this post has made me want to vomit! You clame Punk rock is horrible outdated cliched music, then you come out and say you like Nickle Back and Linking park. Two totally crappy, coporate, crybaby generation, sap bands. Then your little stint about Punk being a bad attempt at Old rock. Of course it is you moron! Do you think The Clash went out and said
"Aye blokes why dont we sound like them lads on MTV?" Like so many bands do today?

No. They listend to, and emulated THE ROLLING STONES, and Chuck Berry, and Elivs and enjoyed the feel that music had, then they put their angst and anger in to it and distorted their guitar riffs.

bunniemaster

I am sure the Rolling Stones and others of the 60's and 70's generation were thinking "oh gee, lets make a video, maybe we'll be on MTV" while they were singinging their now classic songs.

You must have a iffy stomach, if my posts make you want to vomit.

I don't think my taste in music is more articulate than others, I just listen to what I like, and like what I listen too.

I don't know what the Clash said, or who they listened to do you? Maybe they should put their anger and angst [i] to much better use, then by trying to sing?

[i]Your still one of those blind, intraverts that buys the corporate music because they are told to.
No one told me to listen or buy any type of music...please remember that though I grew up listening to country music (my parents choice) I enjoyed buying little 48's to play on my record player, and considering a trip to the big city was rare, I usually bought what I liked. Some things never change, as I still buy what I like.

And although I am not blind yet (thank you for mentioning it, as my eyes are fading fast, due to a degerate family disease), when it does happen, I can still listen to music and see it in my mind.

I wonder bunniemaster, just how old you are, as I can tell but your inconsistant ramblings, not as old as I thought.

Maybe you should read SabreTrout's response as he makes more sense than you.

If we are all still living 20 or 30 years from now, I'll ask you about your taste in music, might be surprising.

Thank you for intervening.

btw WOAH is for horses, and if you can't tell the difference between a horse and a girl...well maybe you need some help too.

Are you kidding me? Bunny will be listening to hardcore punk, and if he has kids, he will be laughing at them for listening to an "evolved" form of Eurodance.

This is kinda why I dont like getting involved in music or movies or tv...everyone seems to hate or at least make fun of everyone who doesnt agree with them. I thought entertainment was about having fun? This is why I play video games...disagreements can be solved with competitive matches.

In that one multiplayer Dink game can you go head-to-head? I think it would solve a LOT of arguments on this forum...

I also mean that last paragraph to be taken seriously.

Sincerely,
The Vault Dweller

Grow up Josh. Go and chill out.

You have a go at the cockney accent? Pah! That's akin to me saying "Americans are all fudgeing wankers. shootty Texans". It's a completely stupid comment which DOESN'T EVEN MAKE SENSE.

Uh, and do you even know what the cockney accent IS?!? If you did, you would know that NOBODY with a true cockney accent could get into the music industry. And there is good reason for that.

Music is the most subjective form of art. No professional movie critic will be taken seriously if they say "The Godfather" is a bad movie, but you can say the White Album is a crappy album and still be a legitimate music critic.
