The Dink Network

WE NEED MORE DINKERS!

We need more Dinkers!

If you are playing a game multiplayer and there are a chat function, tell the other players about Dink and give them the link to rtsoft!

SPAM all chat servers whit information about Dink, and give them the link.

And remember, without Dinkers Dink will die

So go out and recruit Dinkers, the future of Dink is in our hands.

No it's not. Dink has survived for 7 odd (and I mean odd) years now without any mass spamming of other networks to gain more support.

You may have good intentions, but the network is fine. Do you really want more pre-pubescent chimps here at the network?
Do we want more bad spelling, pointless topics, more "Hi! I'm n00b Mcn00b, and I've just joined the DN!" posts?

No!
The DN is so good because it is a fairly slow, yet steady community. There aren't mass arrivals of new people. And as such there is no mass exodus of the same people a few months later.
People are always coming and going, but most people (those worth listening to at any rate) have been here for quite some time, and will be around for much time to come... even if not often.

We don't need new Dinkers. We need new GOOD Dinkers, and that comes from the current Dinkers practicing at making d-mods etc.

So get to it.

No, my point is that we don't need an influx of new Dinkers.

Existing dinkers, instead of spamming other boards about Dink, could perhaps just work hard on some files?

Could they not, oh wise Jedi?

I wish I had more time. I wish I could work at a new d-mod, I have many ideas but no time, because of those stupid exams for finishing highschool and attending an Art University. I'm so sick of it. And after that, IF I get to actually be admitted at the University, I'll probably have to work for a whole year so I can move from Photography class to the Graphics class. Yes, it is fun.
What is my point? This is my point: the Network is slow, because it is really hard to get the time and the will to create a d-mod, and I mean a good d-mod, not just a silly 2-minutes thing that wastes 2 minutes of the player's life.
As I said before, i have some ideas, but before I can actually start working at a d-mod, I will have to wait. and learn. and all the crap.
But one day...

What follows is an ON-TOPIC addition to this thread. Stay away if you're the OFF-TOPIC type

I don't feel like we need more idle people in the community. Although it is true that ever idle dinker has the potential to one day become an active dinker, in that he may learn the art of d-mod creation (that sounds real cool, yeah).
I don't think promoting the site and the game in other communities is a bad thing though. I've ended up in many communities through public promotional messages.

End of ON-TOPIC message. You can now continue your idle banter

More of nearly any type of person (except complete and utter trolls, which seems to be few and far between) is good for the community. It gets the word out via word of mouth. There are at least 10 times as many regularly visiting idle Dinkers as there are active Dinkers, which is a good thing. I'd hate to think that our entire audience was composed of people who have enough time to actually mess around and make a D-Mod or post silly messages on the message board.

But back to why more idlers is a good thing: an idler has a good chance of telling someone else about the game, and that person might end up being someone who could become an active contributor.

But even besides active members of the dink community, idlers are good simply because they're like an audience. Really, let's say that The Dink Network was The Book Network, and was one of the few sites on the internet to offer traditional books to read. Would we really want only other active writers and message board posters to read our books? No. We'd want as wide as an audience as possible, just because.
May 9th 2004, 03:07 PM
farmer.gif
I'll tag onto that last line there, "the larger the audience we have, the more likely it is that there are people with money. And the more people with money there are, the more likely that they'll donate money to us."

That would make it like the community is only making and not playing, so why would you than be making if noone plays? That would be the complete end. Like already said. The community needs, makers, players, posters and idiots ...

Maybe we need someone to keep the h0rs13s (horsies, as in you're on a high horse looking down on others) under control, as they seem to be a much greater menace than 'n00bs' who are actually amusing most of the time.

In america, you need to be 18 to see XXX-rated movies, aka pornography. So, 3 X's equals 18, so 5/3 times 18 equals 30.
